Qantas A220 to do trips to Asia opening new opportunities (rumor)

Had a friend who said he was booked to fly on a 747 aircraft in March - to ADL . Was excited and wanted to know if his J seat meant he could be upstairs.

Those who know will know what I mean.
I was once on a 737 and a Dad and his son are walking through J down the back and I just happen to hear the kid say "Dad this plane is really big!" and the Dad saying "Yeah, it's a Jumbo"

I had to turn away to try to not laugh rudely.

Just flew BOS-AUS-BOS on DL's 220-300 and was pretty impressed.

Nice big windows, though for some reason most people left theirs closed on these morning/evening non-redeye flights.

Comfort+ gave plenty of legroom for me (6'3"), though there are 2x exit row at 18A/C with unlimited legroom in Y - those should be first choice (they don't get free alcohol/better snacks like Comfort+ however).

Upgraded to F on the return which was also good. Not sure how many J rows QF is intending but 4 would be better. Is 1-1 lie-flat an option? :).

All seats have IFE screens which are the most responsive I've ever used. BYO nice 3.5mm headphones as they ran out on the way back :/ (even in F).

There's also a window in one of the rear lavs!

In Y, I would prefer flying this over any commerical narrowbody alternative.

The first Qantas A220 has entered the assembly line in Mirabel.

7 A220s will be in the fleet by the end of 2024. The first route will be Melbourne to Canberra, before they’re deployed across the domestic and regional network. Canberra and Hobart to main hubs are singled out as areas of focus.

Qantas are also enlisting the help of Australians to name the fleet around the theme ‘Native Wildlife.’

Hopefully the engine issues will be resolved by then....

Did my first flights on an A220 from LHR-GVA-LHR earlier this year on Swiss. Loved the light airiness of the plane and spectular views (in that instance) of the Alps.

Also, perhaps because of the big windows (I don't know, perhaps an expert would know) consistent and reliable GPS tracking on the phone for the whole flight. Was interesting watch us circle south east of London, and follow the corkscrew down into the LHR approach.

As the A220 will be a generally smaller aircraft that FLIES routes mostly around the Australian continent, it’s only appropriate to name them after Australian native parrots. Herewith are some suggestions for your voting pleasure:

Would also be good if they could go Frontier and print some birds on the 220's tails.

Birds have been done before, whether that rules them out now who knows. Maybe Ibis could be replaced by BIn Chicken.....

Back to route speculation. I wonder if ex-PER we might see CNS, OOL, NTL on the 220?

Probably not expecting international routes until the airport is sorted out (as per the JNB and CGK route withdrawal). Would love seasonal NZ routes but imagine it would wait for the 321.

In my old days to KTA it used to be 50/50 717 and 737; I wonder to what extent this and other FIFO/intrastate routes may switch to the 220. Perhaps HBA, ADL, ASP or even CBR?
