Well the first tranche of A321's will have a standard J product unfortunately but I suspect these will be used for mostly domestic and possibly trans-tasman.

Hopefully further deliveries for longer, thinner routes into Asia would have a product (J and Y) to at least take a shot at competing - specially where return flights will likely be overnights.
Likely Domestic & the usual DPS/NAN/New Zealand Short-Haul International services. Can't see any other international routes apart from maybe DRW-SIN or ADL-SIN.

I don’t think anyone really cares about WA and FIFO so they will be the last to be replaced 😉
Even if there's no need for a fancy product on the FIFO routes, the F100s are very old though, imagine they'd start to cost a bit to keep them airborne?

I did wink as a little joke :)

There’s a stream of A320’s being pumped into QFLink for this purpose which have apparently been performing very well. I guess it makes sense now they remain.

Old JQ A320s are regularly transferred to Network every now and again and repainted into QFLink colours for WA/FIFO ops.

As QF mix dom and int planes, same planes (737s) flying both dom and int routes, their 220 would probably do MEL/SYD/BNE to AKL/CHC/ZQN or vv.

I think they are getting some second hand A319s too to replace the F100s…which are built like tanks and well suited to FIFO ops

From the fleet updates in the ASX, delivery delays are affecting the A220 arrivals.

Only 2 are expected by the end of the calendar year, with subsequent deliveries delayed up to 4 months due to supply chain issues.

This getting crazier by the day.

Narrow bodies to fly into Asia? By Asia we mean DPS or CGK right? Surely a full service carrier would not attempt something such as SYD-SIN in a 5 abreast narrow body? That would be very undesirable.

I don't see the Bombardier C Series doing any trips to Asia from Australia, well at least not from the East or West Coast (maybe a short hope from Darwin to Singapore). Don't get me wrong the C Series is a nice mini-jet, I've flown on it a number of times with Air Canada and Swiss. But it's a cramped jet and one where I think range would be a real challenge. I also question to what the ETOPS rating on that bird would be. It is one thing flying Montreal to Vancouver on the C Series, it's a whole other flying Singapore to Sydney.

Canada has given it 180 minutes, but in any case, I doubt SYD-SIN really needs that much. There's quite a few places on the way.

Have you ever flown on an A220? There are 737-Max 8’s doing 7 hr journeys, I think I’d prefer an A220 to those. But I don’t think we”ll see them doing Asia journeys anytime soon.

The a220 would be slightly better than 737 or 321XLR for this.

That being said rather than SYD, it'd likely be more like ADL to SIN. You're not going to see SYD<>SIN on anything but a widebody. Theres many a380s a day running that service between all the airlines.

Something from secondary cities to Asia opening more routes up that way.
