Qantas A380 refurbishment news and updates

Wow that's shocking especially if you are paying top $$ for First Class. I think OQI has just recently come back from maintenance so I'm not sure why it wasn't fixed while in??

I've heard Joburg is well on the cards for an A380.

A 747 crew member told me the same thing yesterday. Unlike SCL which is usually thrice weekly, JNB is a near daily service and it would cater to safari goers where people would pay premiums for unlike other leisure markets. If Qantas began a 787 service to Dallas from Melbourne or Brisbane this would arguably remove the need for an A380 in SYD-DFW which takes up 2 per day and could go to JNB.

Draw just looks like a broken/loose lock. I've seen that on an aircraft under a week old.

The divider looks like it's copped a few trolley hits though.

The BNE-ORD service launching in April 2020 will certainly reduce SYD-DFW demand, as it affects the same general market of Australia to the US Midwest and East Coast. Remember that relatively few people actually want to visit Dallas; the service is mostly there for its hundreds of connections available with American. ORD (Chicago) is particularly helpful for northeast US connections, and like DFW is also an AA hub. To me, down-gaging SYD-DFW to a 787 makes perfect sense alongside the BNE-ORD launch. The A380 service from DFW has got to be frustrating for Qantas given the reduced payload westbound, which has to affect its profitability - even though it's only economy seats affected, it's 100 of them which is no small change. There's also BNE-SFO starting around the same time which helps add seats to the US overall and may help with some other connections (like those well-served by United Airlines codeshares e.g. Denver). So I don't think they need to add any more DFW services even if they do replace the A380, as the other ways to get to the US will more than make up for the lost seats.

Nevertheless I will personally lament the loss of the A380 DFW-SYD if it does occur, as the ability to get a "comfort row" for free as a WP is a great perk ...

Though I haven't seen it on BA old F now on 16 sectors.
Besides the current BA fleet has 111 planes that have an F cabin.Nearly 10 times the number QF have. You would expect there to be more issues with BA compared to QF.

All airlines use it - not a big deal IMO

I flew F DFW-SYD last week. 3 massive stains on my seat. when i woke up and looked back behind the seat, dirty tissues and a thick layer of dust greeted me, right near where my head was. Nice.

That said, to be fair, I did eat the best thing I've had on a plane ever - shrimp mushroom salad and the penfolds RWT shiraz was also superb.
