Qantas A380 refurbishment news and updates

Sorry, I bet it would have been said earlier- so which registration is the one single unrefurbished A380 currently in service? I'm really baffled that it exists.

Probably mentioned earlier but the delays with B787 deliveries. I think there’s a due date upthread when it goes in for refurb.

TBH, it’s not as bad as CX subbing my lieflat B777 J seat for a regional A330 with recline shell seat (not even sloppy flat) on a red eye from CGK to HGK….😳

Yes, but remember Platinum/P1/CL can assign these seats prior to this. your chances are.... slim at best.

No I would not think it likely.. If it's assigned to you then they would sit in regular J and even if they asked should be told nothing's available. This is definitely a first come, first served situation imo*

(* of course, we have all heard stories of seat swaps being done for CL and seemingly entitled VIP's, but I've not seen this myself, and as a P1 never asked for or expected any kind of thing like this). So never say never, but I would not be worrying that some higher tier member would come along and usurp me in this situation.
Thanks for your response.
Does anyone know of the bedding situation for the "F" seats on these flights?

Anyone know what’s happening with Bird A? Hasn’t that been in Abu Dhabi for ages now?

I just would love to fly her again, the very first of those beautiful birds!

Per Qantas release today (not sure if this is OQA, OQC or OQI, or whether OQL will go into refurb when this occurs)

OQA in AUH since 18-Nov-2022
OQC in AUH since 21-Jun-2021
OQI in AUH since 25-Feb-2023 (as noted below was already refurbed)
Qantas’ eighth A380 is also expected to re-enter service in early July after engineering checks and cabin refurbishment.

I'm going to be very upset if my first revenue J fair is on a non-refirb a380, sounds like the pool is going to get more diluted with this new one coming into service (which *has* to be one of the old-style ones afaik?)
Don't think so - as quoted above, the press release clearly states that it is returning after "cabin refurbishment."

And a few days before OQJ flew to AUH for maint.
And OQD returning from SIN after 4 weeks in maint tonight.

So I think this gives Qantas 7 active 380s (including the unrefurbed OQL), with OQA, OQC and OQJ in AUH.
So maybe one of OQA or OQC also comes out in the next week.

I believe my LAX-SYD flight tonight is with the only non-refurbished A380... I'm in F so whilst older style, it isn't the worst. IFE is the worst but I plan on sleeping most of the flight anyway.

if I was in J I would be annoyed...

I booked SYD-LAX about 2 weeks ago and looked at the aircraft map and it showed old style for QF11 on the 11th so that tracks. I booked 12th instead as a result. Wish me luck 😅 glad you're in F for that one.

Still the 10th here… but yes, glad in F even with old IFE (the new IFE/screens on the way over were a huge step up from the old ones).

Yeah I think that makes sense to me... Leaves USA on the 10th USA time, and then returns on the 11th Aus time to clear me for the 12th USA time. EF seatmaps seem to reflect that... 🤞🤞 Have a good flight
