Qantas A380 reliability issues creeping up again?

Flight delayed?
Flight was delayed from LHR in the first place.

OQD 15A seat has an inoperative sticker on it.


Edit: Yes not responding to inputs. Apparently an engineer had come onboard at SIN and fixed it... But clearly not.
Offered 75% refund and travel voucher for it by SIN ground staff. Will see how they progress.

Just an update: Upgrade points fully refunded also a $400 travel voucher. Now to get my SC from the flight since it didn't automatically go through.
 
This was mentioned in a QF press release today about A380 flights to JNB.
Qantas has eight active A380s of a total fleet of 10, with the remaining two returning to service over the next 18 months.
I thought they still had 3 sitting in AUH

I imagine one of them is "active" just in "maintenance" and without a clear return timeline. I suspect OQC and OQL are the 2 "non active" ones that need major works.

Maybe this is why QF11 to Los Angeles didn't happen yesterday - they discovered that their IT system had lied and that they therefore did not have an A380 to use!

As posted in the Qantas Delays/Cancellations thread elsewhere on AFF, A388 VH-OQJ had been in SYD since 0600 hours yesterday and appeared to be rostered as QF11 late yesterday afternoon, the 1735 hours SYD-LAX. Initially it was put back to a proposed 2100 hours departure last night, then 2200, and subsequently 2100 this evening (Tuesday 1 October, i.e. 1645 minutes behind schedule).

Was additional maintenance required?

With an A388 now meant to operate as QF63 SYD-JNB five days a week, the JNB flight might well be the last A388 one QFi would cancel if it had a choice, because rebooking passengers on other carriers would be more challenging, as QFi is the only nonstop on this route.

27 hours is a very long maintenance delay at home base - but we don't know whether it was a maintenance issue or something else.

Qantas has a tendency to also underestimate the time it takes to fix maintenance issues and next thing you know you're doing rolling delays.


I think we had a bit of a reprieve in the last few weeks in the 380 side of things with QF having an extra frame but now they're likely pushed close to the schedule limit again with JNB starting.

Today's QF11 took off right on time to the very minute at 17:35, yesterday's QF11 is still aiming to depart in another hour at 21:00...

Given the large capacity of these wonderful aircraft, it doesn't take many problems for a few thousand passengers to be adversely affected.
 
It is certainly taking a longer time than I'm sure Qantas expected for those last two A380s to leave Abu Dhabi especially as Qantas said in 2021 and in 2022 that all 10 A380s would be back in service by the start of 2024.

Thats the problem outsourcing, but also seemly in their contract terms, Etihad Engineering are clearly prioritising the return of their own fleet.

Is there a reason QF has been using Etihad Engineering instead of Lufthansa Technik?
 
The saga continues. Looks like the scheduled QF11 for today (03OCT) has been canned.

The QF11 from yesterday is currently scheduled to depart at 1935 today, meaning a grand total of 26 hours behind the original departure time.

My mate was on this, had been planned as delayed, now he's on an earlier flight to HNL before onwards on Hawaiian
