Looks like Amex is seriously trying to get as many people to sign on as possible via referral. They must have done their research that people tend to keep their cards if referred by friends. In this case, I would get 20K points for each successful referral application.

If you collect Qantas points and prefer to fly Qantas, these are the cards for you. The best deal for Qantas is the Qantas Ultimate Amex with 80000 points with free Qantas domestic flights thrown in.

Otherwise you can look at the Qantas Premium Amex for bonus 50000 points with 2 free Qantas Club lounge passes every year.

Or if you don't want to pay annual fee, the Qantas Discovery Amex is for you, with bonus 15000 points with no annual fee.

Please see the table below with application links for each of the cards:

My link,if anyone is so inclined....

- up to 80k QF points (77500 for first $500 spend plus 2500 for QF spend)
- 2 visits to Amex Airport Lounge per calendar year
- one return domestic QF fight per year (check terms for flights depending on location)

As the 'Ultimate' name suggests, this is the pick of Qantas direct sweep cards. It has a strong sign up bonus and free flight offer to compete with the current Velocity offer. Key features are:

75,500 QF points when you spend $500 in first 3 months (47,500 without referral)
2,500 bonus QF points on first Qantas spend, making a total sign up bonus of 80,000
3 QF point per $1 on QF and restaurants
2 QF point per $1 on airlines, accommodation, cruises, tour operators
2 QF point $1 on foreign spend
0.5 QF point per $1 on utilities, ATO, Australia Post and other government spend
1 QF point per $1 on everything else
Free QF return domestic flight after any QF spend each year (unlike the Velocity Platinum offer, this includes Perth-East Coast (not vice-versa alas))
All available destinations here
2 free visits to Amex Lounge in SYD T1 (International) each year
$450 annual fee

I receive 10,000 QF points for the referral, which are vital to me maintaining a long-distance relationship with my fiancée between Australia and the UK!

Referral link is here. Expires 31 October 2015.

Thank you very much! It is most appreciated!

Kamchatsky,

Yet another 20k coming your way hopefully - activated my card last night and will start spending shortly.

Now that the Velocity Amex Platinum 110000 Velocity point offer is expired, and has gone down to 80000 points offer (same as Qantas Ultimate Amex right now), it is worth considering which card to sign up (or you can sign up both!)

If you prefer to use points for Qantas or Emirates or OneWorld airlines (Cathay Pacific, Qatar Airways, Japan Airlines, British Airways, Finnair, American Airlines, LAN etc), then the Qantas Ultimate American Express (APPLY HERE) is for you.

If you prefer to use points on Virgin Australia or Etihad, Singapore Airlines, Delta, Air New Zealand, Virgin America, Virgin Atlantic etc, then Velocity American Express Platinum (APPLY HERE) is for you.

If you prefer to have ultimate flexibility in airline partner transfers (Qantas, Virgin Australia, Emirates, Etihad, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Malaysia Airlines, Air New Zealand, Thai, Virgin Atlantic), and hotel partners (Starwood Preferred Guest, Hilton). Then American Express Platinum Card (APPLY HERE) is for you. Obviously the Annual fee is a lot higher than the other 2 cards ($1200) but you get 120000 Membership Rewards Points as incentive.

Will try to talk the wife into this one. I should have signed her up for the Velocity 110k offer when I signed up. Sigh. Live and learn.
