 I think (hope) that's not quite correct? (the required completion date of 31 Dec 2006, that is). If it is, then my Plat status will last less than 2 months! I commenced the CT challenge on 16 Dec 05 (first flight actually 27 Dec 05), and completed it on 03 Jan 06. I was under the impression this gave me that status until end Feb 07.
Your Plat status lasts until end Feb 07. If you want to keep it longer than that, you have to requalify by 31st December 06.

I'm not sure where you are getting "Plat status will last less than 2 months" from.

Probably just a matter of interpretation and semantics Alan in CBR. :)

I think my own little bit of confusion came about with Lindsay's statement : "However, if you apply for the Challenge commencing 15 June or later, and achieve prior to 31 December 2006, then you will have Plat status until 28 February 2008", which I inferred as meaning the challenge (commencing in second half of year) must be completed prior to the end of the calendar year in which it is commenced (in my case 2005) in order for status to last till end Feb in commencement year +2 (in my case 2007). I commenced challenge in 2005 (Dec) and completed it in 2006 (Jan) ie. not by Dec 31 2005.

Fewmiles unofficial guide to the challenge says:

Completion date - Earn the required number of Q-points within the alloted time period and you hit the jackpot. Completion date has no bearing on the "expiry date" of your newfound elite status. - which appears to be at odds with "achieve prior to 31 December 2006"

Perhaps I have interpreted "achieve" to mean "complete", and it may not have been written with that intent.

So I guess its just words and interpretation...anyway, I have it (thanks to this forum) and am happy with it. Oh, and the timing of my challenge was dictated solely by the travel dates involved. :)

Cheers (and I hope the above makes sense, or I may just have to go and lie down for a while)

For clarity, pretend Lindsay's statement said, "However, if you apply for the Challenge commencing 15 June 2006 or later, and successfully complete it, then you will have Plat status until 28 February 2008"

The challenge doesn't have to be completed by 31st December.

I was in a similar situation. I had a trip in November, so that's when I took the challenge. There didn't seem any point in waiting until later, since my regular travel pattern allowed on-going Platinum requalification.

Cheers,
Alan.

Alan in CBR, that's exactly what I meant....thankfully somebody else can translate (understand) the way in which I say things....I think they're blindingly obvious at times, until the other way of reading them is pointed out.

I just found out that I should have gone for an AA Gold Challenge (as I flew 5,716 EQP's YTD)...but I wasn't focusing on the Challenge, rather ttrying to make sure the right flights credited to AA and QF programs respectively...oh well

MetroAir, tha's fine - you drop to Gold but you can always go and do another Platinum Challenge after 28 February.
Lindsay Wilson I had always assumed one could do the candy stealing exercise only once :?: :?

As others have posted the challenge can be repeated, unlike other forms of status match which generally can only be done once.

I would have to be dragged kicking, screaming and shackled onto a Death Star aircraft.

I'll second that

i was like that to begin with, fly alot to tas from syd and the qf flights are often booked out so work bundles me on j*. they switched to the A320 late last year, I just rock up at the airport 1.5 hrs before take off, alsways get in the first batch of ppl to get on, and go on the the qf pub and relax / do some work. I have actually been very late one time and rushed to the club where im sure i was the last person to check in and the smiling qantas lady gave me a first boarding pass colour (sayd the flight crew don't even check the seq numbers!)

the a320's are much more spacious and comfortable than vermins 737s and I always get an exit row anyway. don't get me wrong i still prefer qf by a country mile but the thought of j* doesn't paralyse me with fear any more :)
