Qantas Award Charges Outrageous

It's the overall experience and product I'm looking at.
I detest VA , but others here think they're the best. "Horses for Courses" I say.

I don't recall anyone here saying they are the best. My personal assessment is that overall there is not much to separate VA and QF. That's not the same as saying VA are the best.

I'm really struggling to understand what coughing and moaning on this thread is going to do to the frequent flyer cash co-payment, which, as discussed, is a taxes and charges component, not necessarily any link to the fuel surcharges.
Complaining makes people feel better and no one gets hurt.

I found an award SYD-MEL-KUL for only 28,000 QFF points and only ~AUD188 in fuel surcharges. Could be a mistake. Book it quick?

I also found a CNX-KUL return on AK for only ~AUD88 or ~AUD150 when you add on seat selection, 25kgs for golf clubs. Can you trust AK to get you there on time?

That's a matter of opinion. Some may think that's fair value.
And some people do. Most don't.

It's to the US again, but QF award fees turn us off, so maybe we get to HKG and do circle pacific award from there.

we have used QF points many times on CX.

QF points are generally better value if spent on USA domestic AA flights.

Generally, the +++ is a flat USD5 per segment/award.

FWIW, (and as an aside) this week I burned 17½K AA miles on a MEL/PER Business award. +++ was USD11. This will increase to something lkike 25Kin three weeks.

It isn't that bad, it will be 20k AA each way in J from 22/3/16.

It used to be a great way to get a return J trip for well under $1,000 with bought points, the cost keeps creeping up though and on the last special at the new rates I think it was about $1,250.

Which is still half the cost of cash, albeit with SC pts or the flexibility that a cash fare allows.

And I would be one of those people. Y in Aus is find for me, although not on a red-eye

Being in PER makes Y or J domestic worthwhile.

Now living on Gold Coast only OS long Haul in J out of BNE/SYD for us to redeem, but these shocking QF charges are getting up my nose to USA and I hope one day they come to the table, do the right thing and reduce them to what the likes of VA & AA charge.

Have been looking at various J Class rewards for return one way from LHR to MEL and have found several options using both QF, CX or a combination of both.

QF Charges one way are Pounds Sterling 552.95 per passenger

CX Charges one way are Pounds Sterling 197.95 per passenger which is 65% less than the QF Charges Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

Combining CX and QF flights Charges one way are pounds sterling 197.95 per passenger.

I know there has been many discussions on this but what an absolute rip off ..............

Yes I understand that since simpler and fairer redemption costs have gone up in terms of points, still does not in my eyes justify the huge diffeences.

Speaking to customer care it is purely because QF still charge Fuel Fines on award flights.

Whilst I understand that QF are unlikely to make changes to this perhaps it is time that a petition or something similar was produced and forwarded to AJ to show how peeved off many of the customers are with this unfair fuel fine.

Rant Over .............. :D

Ansett, spot on.

It's about time Qantas stopped these huge award charges for sure - or better still media wakes up and makes something out of it.
