Qantas brand badly tarnished

Well, their cancellation rate is more than double QF's. Bringing that down to match would be a start 🤣
That was specifically based on the 7 days to last Sunday inclusive.

In May, VA had a 5.0% cancellation rate compared to 7.1% for Qantas.

Yes. So the trajectory is not good for VA, whilst QF has improved.

Though the official monthly figures quoted in post 120 don't seem to agree with your figures. QF with approximately 70% more cancellations than VA. As well worse on time figures than VA.

Let's wait for the June results.

Absolutely this. VA dropped the ball last week, definitely, but it was a peak period during which they were, reportedly, getting hit hard with covid. Storm in a teacup situation.

On Sunday alone they cancelled 20+ cancelled out of MEL for example. Already this week they are doing much better. Cancellations are nowhere near as drastic. Today out of MEL, it was down to 6. On time performance is still sloppy, but that is the industry standard at the moment unfortunately.

A hyper focus on just 7 days of data for VA and QF alike isn’t realistic…

Statistics are unforgiving. Even if VA brings their cancellation rate back down to 5% for the other three weeks, the June report will have them on 7.5%.

I’m sure QF would like to pick and chose what periods to exclude from their statistics too.

Looking at the similar threads listed at the end of this one it seems Qantas recognised they had problems years ago. A lot of their current problems are caused by covid issues but it is obvious from most posts that they are not handling it well.

Our first International flight, many many years ago, was with " our " Airline - Qantas. It was also our last Qantas flight. We were bumped at Heathrow and
transfered to Alitalia via Sydney instead of Melbourne. We had a six hour layover in Sdney. After several months touring Europe in the mandatory Combi
we arrived in Sydney with no money (and of course no credit cards at that time).

I have never forgiven Qantas - thay were well and truly tarnished.

Singapore are our carrier these days. Good flights and excellent flights never bad or disappointing. Excellent FF program and a satisfactory reward availability..

@serfty I was surprised to see your post that with all your experience you stuck with Qantas so long.

A comparison, recently flew MEL-CNS, going up on Qantas, returning on Jetstar, so equal flight times. On Qantas, given a chocolate brownie and a cuppa, nothing else available. On Jetstar TWO offers of food service, even though you have to buy it, it's available, and the wife was even able to have a wine. I used to love Qantas, but their service on board is pathetic, call centre, website and app horrible. Have generally found Jetstar to be far better, even though others may disagree

It has really only been since 2010 that the rot began to set in with Qantas.

I started flying 'em regularly in 1994. I reached my 500th QF Flight in 2001 and 1000th QF Flight in 2009.

Since then I have had just another 200+ sectors on QF.

And it seems a few don't know what the Betoota Advocate is.
I'm aware its humor, i wansnt aware that racism was okay when it comes to humor? and tbh you're just proving my point. The accent of a white immigrant is fair game. Im really keen to see the betooda advocate run a humorous article on Ming Long's (former Investa Property CEO) Malaysian accent? along the lines of 'sum ting wong here' - still not racist?

Now that QF lounges are showing the ABC News, Fairfax & Channel 9 (that own the Age, AFR & SMH)
Are they though, I was in the Brisbane Qantas club yesterday and all screens were still showing sky news.

There are major articles today re QF's failings in 'The Weekend Australian' that in one case (by 'Oz's' aviation journalist) has found its way into other News Ltd city papers.

IIRC, 'The West' (Australian, owned by Kerry Stokes not Rupert Murdoch) ran some piece suggesting Alan Joyce ought quit or be removed.

Combined, it's disastrous publicity for QF. Jetstar tends not to be the focus in such items.

When the cat's away in Europe...

You're right there. I posted the article from The West - it's about the only decent item that's been in that paper for eons. Stokes has turned a once reputable newspaper into an afternoon rag in my opinion.

. This social contract between Qantas and the Australian public has been totally run roughshod over by Qantas

Oh I love it when people talk about social contracts 😂 Who else do you think has a social contract out of interest?

Do you think that social contracts exist with Rex and Virgin as well for example who actually took more taxpayers money per capita than Qantas. Rex then ditches regional routes and Virgin has a flight cancellation rate more than double it’s nearest competito nearest competitor… is that also breaking their contract?
