Was there any resistance to your ordering both starters? Then had the crab. Nice.

No, because I didn’t order both. I did my usual request for a small sample of soup in a cup if there was enough, just to taste for future reference. Stephen agreed immediately when he took my order pre-departure. Ariel brought me the bowl. When I queried if that was ok she said there was plenty and she’d bring me the crab shortly. Perfect service. Was there any resistance to your ordering both starters?
VGML?Does anyone find it odd that you can't request for vegan, no sodium or no added sugar options on Qantas? I find their food incredibly salty and I never eat on business class flights. I can only preselect meals which are all unsuitable. Is there something I'm missing?

I travelled AKL/SYD last week in J on the QF 787 (Dreamliner) flight. It was interesting to note that the flight featured an 'enhanced' meal service. Unfortunately, the menu was basically the same as the one I had the previous day flying SYD/AKL, which I haven't encountered before.
The enhanced 787 menu was specifically labelled as 'QF144 789' and was missing the usual main course options of the big bowl of soup and the cheese plate. There were no pre-meal drinks and the meal service started so quickly after departure that there wasn't even time to ask for one!
The meal service was done from a cart down the aisle for each course. No meal orders were taken prior to the service starting. The meal was then presented on a preset tray, similar to domestic J meals but with a linen tray liner. No tablecloth was placed on the table as with the normal J service.
I guess that this is done to speed up the meal service due to the large number of J seats on the 787. I don't know if premium economy got the same meal service as us in J, but it did seem more like an international premium economy meal service.
Overall, I would say that I preferred the A330 flight over to AKL the previous day.
I’m doing SYD-AKL in a couple of weeks on the 787 and the above reports don’t fill me with any confidenceOh dear. I’m flying on this one later this week. Doesn’t sound good. I’ll report my experience.
They’ve pretty much stopped the pre-meal drinks across the board on trans-Tasman flights on the A330s (in my experience).
That doesn't sound good indeed! Just booked a trans-Tasman on the 787 for in two weeks time and not happy to hear this.Oh dear. I’m flying on this one later this week. Doesn’t sound good. I’ll report my experience.

Pre-meal drinks are a total gamble on the trans Tasmans as is the Hot Towel service. Sometimes you get it, sometimes you don't. But I now always ask for a Bloody Mary when the meal orders are taken and it usually gets served straight after take off, whether they specifically ask for it or not.
Well- many crews obviously didn't get that memo, hence us thinking it's rather 'missing' if we don't get it. Besides- what a pathetic decision!Bar services were removed from medium domestic flights and Tasman flights some time ago.

QF9 does not have a bar service. QF10 and QF11 LAX-JFK despite their departure times are considered a light lunch/dinner because of the previous sector and also don't have a bar.
All other lunch and dinner flights have a bar service (though there can be circumstances when the bar service is removed, like in a delay in order to start the meal service earlier)
