Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Just flew SYD-CBR on a 737. I was in row 4, but observed that no meals were served in J at all. Just drinks and the Santos nut mix packs.

The CSM did announce at the start of the flight that there would be an abridged service so that the crew would have time to serve everyone on the very short flight.

Nut mix on a route that costs $750 for a half hour flight? Stuff that! Just free pour Krug for the journey and forget about the food, then maybe Qantas can justify the fare.

HBA-SYD, breakfast; sparkling wine was offered- I think that’s the first time it’s actually been offered, as opposed to being available. Quite nice

SYD-HBA post-lunch refreshment. Mine a quinoa salad, other choice the pie. Again, quite nice. No complaints from me.

QF479: reluctantly on the A330 but great service. Choice was beef below or quinoa salad
These were the options on tonight's QF596 SYD to OOL.

QF597: OOL-SYD - choice of chicken curry or bangers and mash.
The same chicken curry or the bangers and mash were the offerings on today's CHC-SYD service.

Couldn't get a 100yr beer on either flight or in the SYD lounges either.

The crew should take some flights on BA Club Europe. Full service with multiple rounds of drinks, a meal, tea and coffee and on board shopping in 25 minutes.

Even Euro Traveller LCY-AMS does a full drink service in Y with an open bar (no buy on board on those flights, so everyone orders).

Yep. Or LH short-haul - I'm always impressed how the crew are able to efficiently serve a plated meal and drinks to 20 J pax on short flights like FRA-HAM.

FWIW the crew on QF587 were fine - I think there were just no meals loaded. This isn't the case on the 717s between SYD/CBR.

Is it just my imagination or are we seeing more and more instances of CBR flights not having meals loaded?
I’ve seen it mentioned on the VA thread at times too so surely not a coincidence?

QF824 - BNE-DRW
Sorry for the bad photos, the passenger next to me was giving me the stink eye.

Frittata with baked beans, mushroom and sausage with yogurt and an apple and cinnamon muffin. Also available was a bircher muesli. The frittata was acceptable, sausage and beans were good as always but the mushrooms were a little soggy.

Can anyone explain which routes do and don't get a table cloth on the tray?

I've seen photos on this thread typically on longer routes (to DRW/PER) that have them and my more recent NZ flights have table cloths but it seems the shorter domestic routes don't (but then the last post in the thread was a darwin flight which didn't).

In my experience recently all services except Alice Springs ex Darwin get them aswell as PER to SYD/DRW and SYD to DRW. Honestly I'm not sure how it's allocated, I would imagine they only get served on flights where both ends would offer them.

That has long been a point of wonder for me, too. Perhaps it is simply how busy the FAs are and whether they can bother setting up trays with cloths?

QF1570 SYD-CFS 15:05 departure

The only meal offered was a pork sausage roll with tomato relish. Served with a choice of riesling or pinot noir and some biscuits with caramelised onion relish on the side (in lieu of bread).

Looks decent enough for such a rather short flight and that Riesling would have surely been good- I really miss Aussie Rieslings over here in NZ and had some outstanding ones on my recent Qantas flights.

How are those sausage rolls taste wise- I’d hope Australia’s national airline will manage to offer a yummie one?

“Refreshment”? 😉

SYD-CHC QF137 738 - green curry chicken. Other options were the pork sausages that seem to be on every flight, and the quinoa or whatever salad, which seem to be also. Wine was a 2017 Shiraz from the Hunter (name unknown but was nice enough).

Sparkling offered as pre-departure - and refilled (slightly delayed takeoff). Crew were good throughout proactively offering refills.

Thanks for the report, looks like Pepe Saya butter has been dropped from Int J?

I am a huge fan of Pepe Saya products and a little sad about this. One of the few commendable NP signature elements, I guess it just doesn't have the shelf life to be a viable option for Qantas to cater during this period of border volatility.

International J is pretty much domestic J at the moment - probably understandable as the flight time is shorter than to PER.

Only difference I noted is that we had pre-departure beverages and in-flight entertainment; but maybe that’s started on domestic too.

Are they catering both legs from AU on the NZ flights right now?

My CHC-SYD meal last week was identical.
Wouldn’t be surprised - I’ll let you know Monday what the outbound flight is - pretty much a straight turnaround (arrives 2.25 like I did today and departs 3.35).
