Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Looks decent enough for such a rather short flight and that Riesling would have surely been good- I really miss Aussie Rieslings over here in NZ and had some outstanding ones on my recent Qantas flights.

How are those sausage rolls taste wise- I’d hope Australia’s national airline will manage to offer a yummie one?

I thought it was quite tasty. A second meal option would have been good but it was adequate for a 1-hour flight. And yes, the riesling was very good.

SYD-CHC QF137 738 - green curry chicken. Other options were the pork sausages that seem to be on every flight, and the quinoa or whatever salad, which seem to be also. Wine was a 2017 Shiraz from the Hunter (name unknown but was nice enough).

Sparkling offered as pre-departure - and refilled (slightly delayed takeoff). Crew were good throughout proactively offering refills.

I had pretty much the same thing tonight on QF149 (SYD-AKL)!

Least you got the A33(3?) - both of my flights (today and return on Monday) were downgraded to 738 - justifiably, although load was reasonable today, but I keep missing the A330 on QF J and yet to try it.

Indeed it was an A330-300. I was very grateful that it didn’t get downgraded to a 737 as I know many other flights have been!

FWIW we had 15 passengers in J and 71 in Y.

What bad luck, it’s a great seat.

QF1570 SYD-CFS 15:05 departure

The only meal offered was a pork sausage roll with tomato relish. Served with a choice of riesling or pinot noir and some biscuits with caramelised onion relish on the side (in lieu of bread).
I suffer from gluten intolerance - not an allergy, thank goodness, and only an issue if I eat a lot of gluten. My doctor said "you won't be able to eat pizza or pasta, but you won't have to ask if there is gluten in the soy sauce or salad dressing."

Pre-COVID, I never really bothered to order a special meal as there was always enough choice in the J menu to pick something that suited. Looking at the way this thread is running, and the very heavy incidence of gluten intense meals like this one, and all the pies that have been pictured up thread (had a bad result from eating the quite tasty pie last time, so doc probably should have included pies on the verboten list 😂 - I know I am overly hopeful that the whole glutard thing will just turn out to have gone away each time I push the boundaries) , I am seriously considering ordering gluten free special meal on my upcoming trip from CBR-OOL and return.

Does anyone have experience of what you get if you do this? I have a real hatred of lazy gluten free which is some manky sandwich on gluten free bread that tastes like cardboard, or disintengrated pulse pasta with sauce, when for example a delicious pumpkin and quinoa salad or fritatta or omelette such as they used to serve regularly is also gluten free. Anyone with practical advice for me?

I have coeliac disease and special meals have now returned to flights. So often I know I could eat the menu item (quinoa salad for instance) but I am not allowed to change as “there aren’t sufficient servings”. Usually I receive chicken or fish. Like all the meals, they are hit and miss. Sometimes good, other times dry. Eat the veggies but leave the meat. Sometimes a meat casserole but fatty and grisly just like normal meals. I’ve never been served pasta or pastry items. There was a sandwich once, but indeed it was like cardboard and inedible! GF bread needs warming to be edible, so I put it under the hot dish. But then you have to ask for butter, as GF combines with dairy free. Some nice but very rich desserts or an apple. I still tend to eat in the lounge and not eat on the flight.

Of course GF still includes Neil Perry’s famous side salad! 🤣

International is usually much better, but let’s dream about that for now.

Thank you @Port Power. Eat in the lounge is often my strategy too, although even that’s pretty hit and miss these days. Appreciate your comments

This was what I was just served in Y on a PER - DRW flight. Described as beef (red wine and onion sauce from what I could tell), it was was relatively tasty and no gristle. Honestly, it looks no different to some of the meals shown in this thread served in J. Only difference is the box verse plate.

Thanks for posting- it's a bit of a (sad) eye opener to be honest. Priority boarding most of the time messed up, more often than not half the back of the plane happily let to the front to use the loo and even the food looks suspiciously identical.

Leaves the booze, slightly bigger seat and (usually) much more personalised and prompt service to stand out in J vs. cattle class. I really value all of those too much to happily just sit in the back but it does make me wonder sometimes...

You also forgot priority bags not really working most the time.

And as a WP when you have access to the J lounge and can get row 4 with a middle seat shadow. I could have easily used points for an upgrade to J but really saw no point in that.

Last time I had it, it tasted no better than it looked
me too, it was pretty bad. I had it in mid March - posted upthread in #3189. Looks like they are not changing the menu that often at the moment. Must be pretty depressing and boring for those who are lucky enough to be travelling regularly.

AKL-SYD 738 (after CHC-SYD was cancelled).

Braised beef cheek. Was actually quite tasty although a little on the fatty side.

Good crew - top ups offered and a PDB.

Currently on a QF flight to Sydney in J and it's been 50 mins since takeoff and we haven't even been offered a bottle of water. Is this normal?
