Qantas Business Class meals & menus

That menu actually looks pretty decent to me actually. Of course the reality vs the menu may have been something else.

I do not see the steak sanga and somehow feel cheated!

That menu is very decent and not least because there is not a plethora of chicken. One trans Tasman flight I had on QF the J menu had 4 of the 6 mains a chicken dish! Frustrating as I don't eat chicken.

Same story in the J lounges. A couple of weeks ago at SYD the options were one hot dish - chicken, of course - and some cold sandwiches all of which were chicken.

Neil Perry, and Qantas, there are other meats besides chicken.

Chicken is cheaper than other meats though 😉

That is what a staff member alluded to when I asked why do they only have chicken? Because it's cheap. (no pun intended)

Isn't vegetables cheaper than meat? By that argument Qantas can save more money by only offering veg meals. 🤨

Any chance of a wine list from that flight?
Yes, 'Ask your friendly flight attendant (that knows absolutely nothing about wine except whether red or white) which wines* we have on board today'....

*it will likely be from the discount bin at Dan Murphy's which is all you deserve after paying $9k+ for your seat

Fairly standard NP Qantas standard food seems to be back by the looks of it...

Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is another question. That menu for such a long flight like Darwin to London looks very, ouhm, limited if you ask me. No wonder most people prefer flying via Doha these days...

First Domestic Qantas in quite a while for me after an extended time in New Zealand. Nothing much has changed, “priority boarding” still completely ignored and utter chaos at the gate. The amazing choice of still or sparkling as a pre-boarding luxury has also gone now but meh, it has always been rather silly anyway in my eyes.

Service was typical Qantas, in a good way that is. One flamboyant GAM who was maybe a slight bit too flirtatious with myself and my partner alongside an older female stewardess who was very chatty, professional and friendly. Food was some salad or what was called a “beef and stilton” pie which should have rather been called “celery and carrot pie” but was otherwise fine for an afternoon flight. The red wine was an excellent 2015 Shiraz, have forgotten the brand now. Unfortunately, the crew was very keen to lock up the galley way before landing instead of offering us another top up or two- there would have definitely been enough time for it.
All in all a short but fine flight. Very uneventful but I was happy as I’ll never get enough of watching the clouds out of the window.

MEL-SYD, Tuesday 7th December, 7pm dinner flight on A330-200:

Way back from Melbourne, strategically timed to be on the one wide body service back to Sydney. Awful situation at the boarding gate with a huuuuuge queue at the priority lane and only a few people at Economy. Staff of course did not care whatsoever so you’d actually be much faster in the Economy lane or, what almost all the other guests I had seen in the lounge did, just push in front of someone in the business lane. I decided to do just that which unfortunately does not feel right either (my poor hubby would disappear into the ground out of shame). But then again- it’s also not right if the great unwashed queue up through half of the terminal starting at the Business lane and staff not differentiating anyway. But back to the food- my apologies for the frustrated rant.

Crew was seriously “senior” as basically every single staff member seemed close to retirement. Which isn’t a bad thing- I actually appreciate the experienced and professional crews that Qantas tends to have. After all, if something went wrong with the flight -science forbid- I’d rather put my life into the hands of an experienced crew than some insta-hashing Virgin chick/dude who’s forgotten to take her or his Ritalin. As you’d expect, service was very efficient even on this big plane, albeit a tiny bit robotic in this particular instance- they all seemed tired, maybe it was their last leg after a long day?

Food was the Moussaka which seems to have been around for a while now and I had been warned of all the water that comes with the veggies so I spooned that out and onto the bread plate beforehand which made the dish much more edible. I didn’t really understand why we need to have mushy broccoli and green beans when we already have plenty of eggplant in the moussaka itself but hey. Eggplant with Béchamel sauce: Super yummie. Extremely overcooked watery broccoli and green beans: Totally not yummie.

Wine was the same excellent 2015 Shiraz that I had on the way up and this time I took a picture. I’m normally not a big Shiraz fan and especially in the Coonawarra would normally go for their Cab Savs which I think are amongst the world’s best reds but hey, this one tasted excellent!
