Qantas Business Class meals & menus

QF500 Syd-Bne 27 July. Option of frittata thing or muesli. Muesli was actually quite nice. 1457CB2B-7639-467F-88D0-4201428EC07B.jpeg

Why have frittata's become so popular these days? I have never had one that didn't underwhelm me, and not just on aircraft, and would certainly not order it by choice.

Why is it sitting in a watery liquid?
It's the usual nonsense- you couldn't possibly let go of that "fresh vegetable" in a shape of this boring tomato and as a result, the entire rest of the otherwise quite yummy looking meal ends up sitting in a puddle of tomato water. Also happens with other vegetables which is even more of a sin- a beef stak sitting in a puddle of green bean water, anyone? Yikes.

QF119 BNE-AKL 30th July

This was an A330 flight but no pillows once again . I really hate that Qantas doesn't load pillows on transcon and transtasman flights, especially on A330s with flatbeds. I just wanted to take a nap and it's definitely not comfortable without a pillow.

When I asked for my two boarding passes (SYD-BNE, BNE-AKL) to be printed out in the Sydney Domestic Business Lounge (already checked in online), they told me they could only print out the first leg, and that for the BNE-AKL boarding pass I would need to have my documents verified at check in at BNE International. I knew this was false but I didn't want to argue it. The machines at BNE ended up printing out my boarding pass just fine with no further document checks (sadly they print on paper rather than card :p)

That’s interesting. I did the same but used the app to board in Syd. On arrival to the lounge in BNE the friendly lounge bouncer insisted I have a printed boarding pass even tho I wanted to save the world by using the app.
No doc checks anywhere, I did it all on the app.

Consistently inconsistent (TM).

Did you check in at a normal check in or international connections desk?

The latter should have been able to check your documents (if required) and issue both boarding passes.

Edit: Oh I see you checked in at the lounge. There's your answer.

I already checked in online. Was just asking for BP printout

From your post it seems she didn't know that, if she told you that you needed to check in at BNE.

These international rules are changing pretty fast, and she's just a domestic lounge dragon.

So you could see digital BPs in the Qantas app?

When I travelled to AKL about a month ago, I could complete OLCI, but at the final step it says "we need to do a docs check at the airport before generating BPs" or words to that effect.

Check-in counter staff then viewed our vax cert and NZ travel permit before printing BPs, at which point I could also see digital BPs in the Qantas app.

Edit: this was after NZ had dropped the pre-departure test requirements.

I told her I was already checked in online and submitted my documents online. I showed her the digital BPs on my phone too.

Yes

QF943 BNE-PER Sun 31st July scheduled 1800 actual 1930

90 minutes late, no PDB but I get the impression this is the standard now.

Pre dinner drink offered with nuts.

Dinner of roast chicken with vegetables, the other choice being barramundi. Washed down with a passable Xanadu DJL cabernet. Certainly nice enough, but can’t help remembering that we were often given meals not looking to different to this in Y on AN back in the 90s.

Cake in the box was sufficiently moist but definitely not worth breaking low carb for.

I realize that QF has more pressing issues to sort out at the moment, but I really hope that one day that the PER-BNE flights (which are only a couple of hours shorter than a transatlantic) will return to menus and true multi course meals. It has a low rent feel at the moment, and I would not be paying for transcon J right now unless I really needed the SCs.

EDIT: Was actually given some of Maggie’s burnt fig icecream after another hour, so ended up being a little less low rent. Still no support from dessert wines and cheese platters though ( not that the latter was ever anything stellar)

Also meant to say, excellent and friendly service from the CSM and FA tonight, their names have unfortunately escaped me.

Very tender beef in gravy with bits of tomato and capsicum, but only 3 pieces of beef! Beans nicely cooked. Red wine offered was “no regrets” 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon. My seat mate had a toasted Turkish bread ham and cheese sandwich with lots of filling. Service was excellent, even offering a refill on a 1.5 hour flight.

On the prior 10:40am flight from Perth I was served a chicken curry with beans and rice, but plenty of chicken. Tasty. My seat mate had a chicken dish: large chicken steak in a cream sauce. He ate it all and seemed to enjoy. Followed by Maggie Beer vanilla bean ice cream. Again, super service by the crew. Offered a drink after takeoff, including spirits, but I asked for soda water at that early hour!

What's with the banana and the stuff on the left plate? And - about 10x as much rice as I would like...

For me: blahh...

Ghastly sickly cakes in a box and horrible sickly chocolate ball thingies that I cannot abide... When will this nightmare end? I think I've given up all hope of resurrection before about 2028...😫

Its airline food. There are ways to jazz things up, but even in J it is produced on a tight budget.

Carbs and sugar are the cheapest foods around.

B-b-b-but, in QF we have Neil Perry. Isn't that paragon the perfect answer to all matters culinary in this wide, brown land?

Or, could it possibly be that we have been sadly misled all these years...🤥

:p

Neil Perry
Neil only does the Steak Sandwich, Cheese Burger, Salt & Pepper Squid. (And then its only videos)
Oh and he comes out at Christmas to do the Christmas dishes - but that is not inflight
The rest is done by some unnamed cook in the Dnata kitchens who does not command the millions of frequent flyer points that Neil gets

It is a lot easier to have zero expectations...

Ok Ok he also does the pav thing in a cup

Fruit salad, dried fruit, fresh fruit. Yes, a lot of fruit. They are gluten-free alternatives to cake, and I enjoyed. Quite a lot of food! I didn’t eat much of that rice: agree there was a lot of it. Note not a green leaf in sight? Perhaps too expensive at the moment!

B-b-b-but you overlooked the Signature 'green leaves with Neil's vinaigrette'...😜
