I guess different people have different opinions on rice quantities. I often find when dining out I get much less rice than I would have with similar meal at home. The quantity of rice in that photo looked good to me.

QF 12 - LAX - SYD First Class (couldn't find where to post these so here should do :p )

Bonus update on LAX:
- Lounge agents suggest Qantas LAX First Lounge may open by 8 August.
- Checkin opened at 5:30pm for earlier QF flights and had no problem checking my bags for QF12.
- See queue for the LAX oneworld Business Lounge below at 8pm, no champagne, food just various slops, no hot water in showers - I went to AA Flagship Lounge in T4, quiet, better alcohol (Piper Heidsieck, premium spirits)

Carbs and sugar are the cheapest foods around.
Particularly rice is such a tasteless empty carb, at home I usually leave it away altogether or replace it with Cauliflower rice which to my utter surprise is absolutely delicious and sneaks in those pesky vegetables. I'm talking about boring "steam rice", not some elaborate fried rice which is of course a total different story.

I dunno- "Signature steak sandwich" as a main option in "First class", cough cough. I mean- really? Luckily you can usually push for more than one main in Qantas F (unless that has changes- has admittedly been a while).

I am almost sure that this used to be a "Anytime you're hungry" kind of item (and one of my favourite, as long as I can tell them to hold off on the, yikes, rocket).

Noticed that too and agree.

The only "excuse" I can give for this is QF12 leaves nigh on 11pm, so it's always been a reduced "supper" service out of LAX... but it's quite cheap to include the steak sanga in the mains when yes, absolutely, always used to be a snytime snack (I do enjoy the sanga don't get me wrong, but as a mid flight snack!)

CBR-BNE 13:35 QF Link E190 flight. Two lunch options, lasagne or braised pork. I went for the latter again.

Even tastier than my earlier sample. Dish also seemed less salty. Very tender piece of pork and quite thick so pretty filling.

Great service from the FA whose name I’m going to try and get from the VIP team - will give her a shout out in the Bouquets thread if successful.

I have to admit, that menu and photos from F made me less disappointed I've yet had the opportunity to fly QF's F product. 🙃

The sad thing is that pre-Covid, I had some of my most memorable flights on Qantas first.

I even very vividly remember that twice, I connected from EK First to Qantas First back to back and both time, I ended up telling the lovely Qantas crew that their service attitude and also the seat are actually better than the EK product- to the utter delight of the QF crew of course. Besides the showers, needless to say, couldn't resits rubbing that aspect in 😅

OT but for me QF F (which I am flying in a couple of months for first time in ages) is NOT about the J+ food. it's all about the bed and space. The rest is meh (including the tiny lavs). And on long flights like LAX and LHR it's about the comfort for mine and ability to sleep.

Obviously many other airlines' F products (and some J) are miles ahead. This is not news. QF has always treated F like an add on on flagship routes rather than a special products (apart from the F lounges). On board though.. yeah not the best. It will be interesting to see how the new F product on the A350's for Sunrise work out and if QF makes any extra effort with soft product to match.

I know if I had the choice between QF and say SQ for F there's a no brainer there.

(I will be sure to post menus etc from my F flights)

Not disagreeing but for me there's one other important aspect in addition to this which also comes in as a major trump when forking out money for J vs. Premium eco or Why even: It's the personalised service and that's where Qantas did often shine and more so than the somewhat scripted service on the likes of EK or QR. That's a gamble with the Middle Eastern carriers, I know- it can go both ways but I also had similar inconsistencies with SQ (admittedly J, not F) recently.

I'm digressing, my point: The personal touches and crew interactions is what makes it for me, more than the food and the space but of course ideally they all come nicely together and turn what can be a nightmare experience in the back of the bus into something that I genuinely enjoy. The difference is just so striking from the moment you board: Instead of sitting impatiently squeezed into some nightmare seat with smelly strangers, you get welcomed on board, settle into your comfy seat and enjoy some nice champagne (or even a little Fois Gras tart or two- that was the "standard" amuse buche out of LHR for Qantas First over quite some time).

QF5 - SYD-PER - Dep 5:55pm

Identical menu to my last QF9 flight from MEL. Except this time the printed menu was actually correct (and came in Italian).
This time, I went for the prawns again, and they were huge.
Meatballs were moist and flavourful, polenta went well with it.

As an aside, SYD F lounge dining was great, and the staff were extremely accommodating.
