Qantas Business Class meals & menus

@muppet, was there any food in the AA flagship lounge? It’s years since I was there.
Yep. It had a bunch of salads, some soup, some hot vegetables, rice, roast beef (slice thick), pork belly and some deserts. They also had made to order veg or fried chicken boa. probably a couple of other things i don't remember.

All higher quality than the oneworld business lounge. Although the oneworld business lounge staff were bringing out plated foods from time to time but only ever served the people sitting near the kitchen, never ventured into the lounge or near the bar where i was - so I can't say if it was any good.

Apparently not, and then tastebuds at FL390 is not exactly in best condition
Yes, not to be taken literally.

And while I acknowledge that taste buds at FL390 are not necessarily performing optimally, my experience with special meals in J is that they have been consistently sub-par. My suspicion (and this is pure speculation, I have no evidence other than the quality of the meals served to me) is that the quantity of special-request J meals is quite low and as such they receive less attention/thought from the catering company/meal designers.

I am pretty much over the generally tasteless gluten free meals I am served. With many of the menu meals looking to be gluten free anyway, I am considering taking my chances in future. It won't hurt to miss a meal on a domestic flight! However, Dnata could just add GF next to the menu items like standard restaurants do and then they wouldn't have extra work. I would make sure (even in Y) to tell FA that I am coeliac and reserve a meal before they sell out.

SYD-CNS 14:35 flight. Another good flight with great service from CSM John and the junior attendant who I won’t name as she was very green (but friendly and helpful). But some oddities which I can’t quite figure out. Maybe knowledgeable insiders here can shed some light

Soon after takeoff John went to row 3 then gave them some drinks. He then directed the other FA to take other orders. Nice to have a pre-meal drink service. A second was offered but I declined. Food service started and pax in 1D and F served first. Offered 2 choices - pancetta toasted sandwich or chicken salad. I thought this quite poor for a 3 hour flight. They both had chicken (which looked good to be fair).

When John came to me in 1C, I was offered the toastie or the black pepper beef. I took the beef as I was hungry. No pic as it was as per my previous one though I did actually enjoy this one a bit more.

Then the pax behind me asked for the beef and was told it was just the toasted sanga available.

It was a double catered flight for the return to Sydney so I may have been offered a dinner meal? Or it had been warmed up for the flight deck (who best I could tell only had teas or coffees on the flight but they did discuss dinner on the return with John before we descended). I am P1 but this status was not acknowledged nor was I actually addressed by name.

Good flight and crew, and I’m happy I got a proper meal on this length flight but disappointing it was only for one or two pax at best.

How many pax in J
At least one in D/F is a CLPO

I suspect the drinks to R3 first was to mitigate the planned reduction in dish choice to them later
Full. I’d be surprised if pax in D and F were of status. Had no idea how to get their tray tables open.

I was the very last pax to board so missed any early interactions. Row 3 could have been known pax or made a request or been celebrating something. Good service all round so no complaints from me. Just curious.

J menu from QF12 LAX-SYD. I tried the steak which was decent. Did not snap a photo of the breakfast menu but it was pretty standard, picked the scrambled eggs and bacon. They were fine if a little cold.

We were supplied with this amenity kit, underwhelming for PE let alone J…

That looks like what I could got in economy going to LHR plus mask, toothbrush and toothpaste in the self serve bar near the bottom of the rear stairs of the A380.

That's actually the Y amenity kit. We all received it on QF 11 about 4 weeks ago. They clearly forgot to load J kits.

Ah. I thought they had plastic bag kits for economy and those fabric for premium economy. Nice touch if they have gone for fabric in the main cabin as well :)

Poor for QF to hand out those kits in J without even a mention :(

Plastic is a naughty word these days ;)

QF 7 SYD - DFW a few weeks ago

I had the chicken starter, the steak (which was really good) and the creme caramel.

We had this menu on QF1. The fish cakes and Barra were fine. The brioche bun with bacon, egg and hash brown stuffed in for breakfast coming in to LHR was a not good. The bun was burnt and inedible, but the contents were consumed.

I recall prior to COVID meal service in international J was done without trays? It seems eating from a tray is now standard?

My Qantas domestic business meals from my recent flights.

1. 05/08/22 QF431 9:30am SYD-MEL A330-200 Business. This was a refreshment I assume (just after breakfast). Choice was between the below (focaccia with ham and a few other things) and a quinoa salad. Enjoyed the bread with more bread ;) No wine offered (though I wasn't expecting any at that time of morning!).

2. 08/08/22 QF472 7:30pm MEL-SYD 737 Business (got bumped from the 6:00pm flight I originally booked). This was a dinner service. Choice was between the below (butter chicken) and a chickpea salad. I found the meal to be a bit bland and the chicken was a bit tough (but I did eat in the lounge beforehand and had some nicer food there at the spice bar!). Paired the meal with the white wine on offer (which was a chardonnay).

Just currently toying with an idea over Xmas/NY. Does anyone have a current F menu from QF1/2 SYD SIN LHR?
