Qantas Business Class meals & menus

Lunch QF440 choice of lamb salad, chicken and pumpkin in cream sauce and pea and mint soup.

Mrs Mort chose the lamb and described it as meh šŸ«¤ a bit like bbq leftovers.

I had the soup, which was pleasant enough but more parsley and pea than pea and mint.

No wines today as a bit early and still a long way to go.

Look black white choc bar with lime for sweets.

I'm surprised the FAs don't know; I thought familiarity with the menu was part of their role; perhaps not if a passenger doesn't know what they are going to get, but at least a basic understanding of common allergens if that is important to a passenger.

Don't FAs receive cheat notes on each of the dishes, which includes pictures of them?

Maybe they should have a section in the IFE which is a visual menu, which can include more information such as ingredients, allergens, wine matches, nutritional information and even notes from Neil about the dish (for those so inclined). (Maybe not as that might mean the demise of the printed menu)
They have all the allergens on an ipad but that's only a recent thing. A couple of years ago when I asked about allergens they just said no idea what's in the food

This has been around for sometime - certainly before covid .This isn't on all flights though. It is available for domestic and flights ex AUS. It's also available ex LHR (as it is required by law). It also has a lot of disclaimers typical of foods prepared in shared kitchens.

QF71 PER-SIN

Itā€™s not Neil Perry leaves! Itā€™s ā€œgreen leaf salad with Neilā€™s vinaigretteā€. Neilā€™s name has been besmirched! (It is delicious vinaigrette.)

When was the change made? Or was it never actually ā€œNeilā€™s green leavesā€ at all?

Entree is prawns with cold soba noodles. The vinaigrette was straight from the fridge: gluggy fat atop the vinegar. Yuck! I put that aside. The cold bread was also put aside. I would have preferred the carrot and thyme soup.

IMG_2530.jpeg

I might turn off ā€œgluten-freeā€ on future flights. The in-flight menu has several obvious gluten free options. It is about time the menu was marked the same way as in restaurants.

Main course, from the main menu, was a pretty good snapper on rice with a drizzle of some sort of sauce (there definitely should have been more) and wonderful mushrooms.

Never was - only the vinaigrette. In the old days, it didn't even bear his name - it is what it was, palm sugar vinaigrette.

I would have vigorously shaken up the vinaigrette then given it a chance.

Good to hear it was OK. From the picture alone, it looks a bit dry, especially the fish.

I tried, but the oil was still too solid. Very off putting! By the time the plate was cleared, the oil had melted and it was ready to use. Anyway, I just enjoyed perfectly cooked barramundi in the First Lounge, so I am well fed. šŸ½ļø

I had the fish QF93 on the 7th and couldnt finish ot as ot was like cardboard. Will post some.pics soon.

QF827 red eye DRW-BNE

Predeparture drink of juice or sparkling water offered in a glass - first time I'd seen this on a domestic flight that wasn't a widebody.

Only option was chicken and leek pie with bread. Unfortunately no dessert, just the usual cocoa black choc. The pie was surprisingly good and went quite well with the Pinot Grigio.

As there's only 4 of us in J and I'm the only one awake/who is eating I'm getting amazing service from the CSM. I have yet to actually manage to empty my glass and there is a real danger I will drink the whole bottle by the time we arrive in Brisbane...

Interesting because I had a couple of flights mid or post covid where they maybe didn't care and just said no idea and we won't take responsibility (and I was in J) so they gave me an extra piece of bread šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

Friday nightā€™s dinner on QF135 BNE-CHC. I can only guess that I was the only WP in J as I was asked first what I wanted for dinner. I was in 2F.

Mediterranean chicken, I think. Very nice actually. A very acceptable Greek salad too. Vodka and ginger beer. A couple of Shiraz after.

Crew was great. Before we started decent into CHC they announced that the loos at the terminal were out of action and suggested people use the ones on the plane asap.

Iā€™ll report on brekkie and lunch from our return on Monday.

A few meals from my recent status credit run

Breakfast - flying MEL-BNE - omelette and chicken sausage with baked beans and spinach. The other breakfast offered was a muesli.

Lunch flying BNE - AKL - a chicken curry. Other offerings were a chicken and sweetcorn soup or a chicken salad (looked Waldorf style).

Dinner flying AKL -SYD - a chicken and couscous salad. Other offerings were a carrot soup or a spinach and ricotta tortellini

Love the look of that Greek-ish salad there on the side. Flying the same route today and hoping they might still have the same.

But in any case, still not happy about the Domestification of trans Tasman service now. Flew over here on LATAM Business and got a full steak with veggies and potato, accompanied by a ham and mozzarella cheese starter and (rather tasty) fresh fruit or chocolate mousse as desert. Was way above what Qantas would ever offer on this route these days:

QF628 MEL-BNE

Flight delayed due to APU issues. Options for food were a chicken and corn soup, the barramundi with tomato and potato, and the chicken quinoa salad.

I had to salad and it was actually delicious, probably one of the best domestic J meals I've had. I don't know why but I think the chicken and the spring onion and sauce just went together really well. Also went well with the white wine.

But most importantly THERE WAS CAKE! After 6 months of searching I finally flew at a time where there was cake. Unfortunately it was as dry as a rock, but did go well with a strong white tea. (Pair tea with a tea cake, who would've thunk).

Next flight is BNE-DRW (on the same jet) so I think I'll try to make an affogato with the ice cream. Does anyone know what spirits Qantas has onboard besides gin and whiskey?
