Qantas Business Class meals & menus

I thought the "il sugo" part just emphasises that it is served in sauce?

"Beef and gravy tarte" would make me rather incredulous. The meat pie we love in Australia doesn't really eexistat all in France and "tarte", although a "direct translation", is not a good translation for it. Using the word certainly doesn't make any attempt to connect the dish to the original one in the culture that inspired it.
You could call it pithiver de boeuf which is essentially a French meat pie.

On the topic of beef, for those that plough the domestic routes I came across a new one today for those pre 5pm flights
BNE-SYD was cauliflower soup, ploughmans plate and a wagyu beef and coughake mushroom pastry

The crew were great with friendly and efficient service and plenty of top ups of the cab sav too.

A pithivier is made from puff pastry, so not really like the Australian meat pie at all.
Qantas had this as an option for the trans-Tasman (and possibly elsewhere) for quite some time, just pre-Covid. And while they gave it the French name in the -back then still printed- menu and it was indeed made from something more puff pastry-ish, most flight attendants still called it “Meat pie”, haha.

QF172 WLG-MEL 7-11-23

Flight was late and boarding took a while. Left late but made up time. Priority boarding was not really enforced! Very loose. Flight was full no empty seat this time beside me 🥲

PDB offered. Champagne was again Jacq

Three options offered - a soup, a chicken Thai noodle saiad n the roast chicken which was my choice. The salad has not a shred of green leaf and actually yummy 🤣

Dish looks like a plate of rice, with a couple of spoonfuls of pork and beans on the side. I would have asked where is the pork main that I ordered.
Agreed, if I wasn't full from the lounge I'd have probably requested something else. The most dissapointing meal was the "Vietnamese style lemongrass beef brisket noodles". Looked and tasted like corned silverside that I was served as a kid. Maybe it's intended to taste like that however any actual vietnamese cuisine I've ever eaten has always been packed full of flavour, this was completely the opposite.

I guess they said the menu item as they did - if they said "pho" they would be shot.

Beef brisket..... probably should have been sliced thin and then transported raw (assuming that can be done safely), then dropped in noodles as it is warming up. While brisket that thick can be good for texture, that's not authentic Vietnamese and they're taking a big risk it'll be tender and palatable once served in the air.

Also seems to be quite a lack of soup. Unless the dish was stored as soup and noodles, which means the noodles have probably soaked up the majority of the soup (and even more in it being reheated), giving you little soup and soggy noodles.

Pho flavour can be relatively subtle, even in the ground, but even that subtlety is tasty and sweet. I guess it's just too subtle once you're in the air, so they would have done well with additional seasoning to compensate.

QF291 SYD-SIN

Identical selections to my QF1 SYD-SIN flight 2.5 months ago

Qantas' presentation is so laughably inconsistent. The skewers served to me had a good char (almost too much) and the caramelisation is probably what gave the meal most of its flavour. @snabbu 's looks like they've been cooked sous vide! My plate of numbing pork has to be at least double snabbu 's portion, and while my serving of vietnamese noodles wasn't Qantas' finest dish, at least it had more than 1 herb leaf for the whole plate 😂

QF629 BNE - MEL dep 5pm (hour late) arr 8pm. Choice for dinner was a toastie, lentil soup or cheese platter. For a dinner flight pretty poor (J class)
Agree. Too late in the day for a toastie. Same goes with the Reuben sandwich served ex CBR on QF1531 (2015/8.15pm) departure.
