Qantas Business Class meals & menus

QF9 PER-LHR last night/this morning. For once the gluten-free meal was really good and better than the menu choices.

Dinner entrée: thinly sliced salmon and quinoa and tomato salad with a tasty dressing on the side.

IMG_0354.jpeg

Main course: delicious, soft, perfectly poached white fish with vegetables al dente. A Western Australian 2021 Syrah of a Barossa red. I didn’t look at the others.

One of the better breakfasts I’ve had on an aeroplane. The poached eggs were “hard boiled”, but still very edibLe, plus nicely cooked bacon and roasted cherry tomatoes. I chose one of the breakfast juice blends.

No pics of food unfortunately but it's the same menu doing the rounds at the moment.

QF76 YVR-SYD in Premium Economy (seems specific to YVR departures, whereas the other direction is a generic North America menu)

The beef rib looks to be missing the rib

Flew QF72 SIN to PER in J Class. Flew Qatar F class, Singapore J and Qantas J in the trip. Couldn't believe how shocking Qantas' service is.

- During the meal service the steward asked if I would like some wine, I declined, assuming that he would inquire if I desired another beverage.., he moved on without asking if I wanted anything else leaving me with an empty glass. Had to ring the bell to request a different choice of drink
- During main meal service I politely asked the steward not to serve me the main course and to bring dessert only. 10 minutes later they brought out a main which I did not touch. The staff are painfully slow with service and I ended up napping. While napping the same steward who I asked to bring dessert only returned and cleared up my table..

Food was meh, service even worse. Didn't bother to take photos!

Similar happened in the F lounge in Melbourne. I asked for Blush Champagne and she said they didn't have any, then started to walk away! 🤬

It seems to be a Qantas J thing. I don't know why they think anyone wants dinner to take so long, no matter how long the flight. I assumed perhaps they have to wait for Neil's weeds to grow before they can be served. It takes so long I've more than once asked if they've forgotten my meal.

Isn’t it because the have to plate all the meals? IIRC BA is quicker, but the main is pre-plated, just heat and serve.

I’ve noticed a real improvement with QF service over the last couple of years. Service much quicker, especially on domestic flights.

But the plating is often awful, often seeming like just a leaf has been dropped on top! I can't taste what people photograph, but I can judge what it looks like. On my second most recent trip, I had really nicely plated meals on TK and EY, done in A320 galleys.

Style wise it dun always look the best. But each element has to be heated separately, then plated to make the dish. Lot of work!

But are they (always)? These meals pictured above of the type where the components are arranges 1-2-3 across the dish, are all heated together in the bowl/plate, surely? <Ah. Unless you are taking the mickey ....>

Oh, sorry. I was taking about international services (not domestic or trans tasman).

I’ve found the domestic and TT to have significantly improved services time recently. International is slightly better from pre covid when service was seriously glacial.
