Qantas Business Class meals & menus

QF158 AKL>MEL - Had a Cannelloni, again put my extra vegs in there and mixed it around. It was OK, but was only a little hungry still as I'd loaded up at the Emirates lounge prior which blew the nuts off the revamped Qantas lounge... that seemed the same as it was before basically.

QF19 SYD-MNL just after Christmas. Nice crew. Cabin still with some Christmas decorations. Food a miss. Main was forgotten and had to be put together with bits from the other meals. FA apologetic. Meal service wasn’t completed for me for until close to 3hrs after take off. Not a fan of the tray, made everything seemed cramped. Ended up putting items on the side bench.

Not a fan of the pre landing snack, however was pleasantly surprised with the pana cotta.

First time flying Qantas international for approx 10 months after trying some other airlines. Not sure if I’ll rush back unless the price is more reflective of the product.

Happy New Year, AFF'ers

My return from Woy Woy on 30/12:

QF435 SYD-MEL

Gruyere Cheese Toast, Raspberry Coconut Bread, or Fruit salad were the brekky options. I'd had a bite to eat in the SYD lounge so wasn't needing to fill up - so was happy to do the fruit salad. I'll admit the quality of the ingredients was top shelf, so well done on this one.

But I miss the fruit scones and Pepe Saya clotted cream for morning tea... 🥺

In the MEL lounge there were ice cream sandwiches handed out after lunch. But the Spice Bar menu was unchanged from last week:

QF775 MEL-PER

90 min engineer delay to our departure.

Beef Tagine, Braised Lamb, or Chicken Salad on offer for dinner.

Went the Lamb. It was tender enough, but the mashed potato that came with it was watery and insipid.

Despite the servicable hard product - I always target the lay-flat flights on the Westbound transcon - it felt like the crew were going through the motions for this one. I was after a coffee and an after dinner drink when the tray was cleared away, but had to ask twice to get the coffee, so have up on the nightcap altogether. When paid seats cost between $2,700 and $3,900 on this leg, it really isn't good enough IMHO.

It's the inconsistency that gets me. Just how good a flight experience customers get apparently comes down to how an individual crew is on the day. Service was by status East bound, by rows Westbound. Personalised greetings to WP's in the cabin East, zero recognition West. Repeat visits by crew asking if extra drinks, snack, whatever were needed Eastbound. Nothing Westbound.

I'm not surprised, anymore. Those "good crew" flights only seem to happen every 2nd trip for me now. It's a shame, because IMHO Qantas' people are what make or break the experience. If they are not being trained to do better, esp. in the J cabin, then those slipping standards end up being reputational.

YMMV, of course.

Does anyone actually like the spanakopita?

QF1 SYD-SIN 1/1/2025

Flight was full, as was the F Lounge. As per previous comments in thread, orders were taken moving backwards from row 11, not by status.

Menu

Meals were served on tray. Probably a bit more efficient for service, but also slightly awkward in the sizing with the glasses in current position
IMG_1868 Large.jpeg

Entree - dumplings - nice offset/cleanser with the pickles
IMG_1870 Large.jpeg

Main - crumbed snapper
IMG_1873 Large.jpeg

Dessert - panna cotta - quite nice with the caramel taste and crunchy texture on top

Supper - noodles

Are they the same ones as Aldi sells - given they serve their ice cream in AKL lounge...
No, those Aldi ones are the good stuff! The spiral pie version. It’s more like a quiche/pie looking thing on QF.

p.s. The Kapiti ice cream brand that they stock in the AKL F closet has been around a lot longer than Aldi in this part of the world!

Cheers,
Matt.
