Said we enjoyed the red given a top up then a bottle to take home … guess what’s for dinner tonight

PS happy with free wine in a coffee cup FA said as SA as banned single use plastics QANTAS has adopted this on all aircraft’s hence no plastic cup for wine

Haven't seen soup in domestic J for a while now. Maybe it's the timing of the flights I catch.

Opted for longer sleep so filled up at F Lounge, skipped dinner on board, and went with express breakfast option

SYD-MEL on a rattly 20+ years old 737: Solid flight, crew typical “senior Qantas”- friendly but professional, just the way I like it. Choices of some boring sounding salad, a Turkish “Gozleme” and a chicken and corn soup. The Gozleme looked everything but and was filled to the brim with strawy spinach and had a side of disgusting rocket to boot- so glad I did not have it but my poor partner had to endure the pain.



I went for the soup and, I’m not kidding here, it was one of the tastiest chicken and corn soups I’ve eaten in years. Very untypical for an airplane dish, it was full of flavour and I could have eaten three bowls easily.



Now- I still firmly believe that some bowl of soup isn’t good enough for a J class flight at these prices (and it’s not the flight duration- I’ve just seen what SQ and MH manage to do on one hour flights, hell even Garuda managed to serve a delicious hot meal on a 90 minute Domestic flight two weeks ago) but praise where praise is due- the quality and taste of this soup was outstanding.

Sorry to be cynical, but what a weird post. Sounds a bit Stockholm Syndrome 'ish...... Honeymoon halo effect post J Flight l think.

Ratty old 737, Gozleme and salad were both rubbish (endure the pain eating it), MSG or chicken stock cubes in chicken soup (tasted amazing) & QF are a pretty tight and don't offer value for money compared to other airlines with dining options - just the way l like it.

I had the pumpkin soup on a MEL-SYD just a couple of days ago and it was actually good and had huge chunks of pumpkin and other good stuff in it. It just wasn't really substantial and thankfully I had already indulged in the lounge but if I hadn't, it would not have been very satisfying meal.

I suspect the CSM probably realised and offered all of us in the back cabin as many slices of bread as we'd like. On another note, the red wine was really good though!


The only other option offered to me was a cheese plate, although I suspect there was probably a pie that had run out in the rows in front.

QF437 SYD-MEL 11-1230

“Morning tea” was served on this route which was a choice of a Miso Chicken Salad, Corned Beef Fritters, or Scones, alongside a blueberry danish.

The chicken salad was really nice, although as our flight was delayed till 11.30 I did wish for something more substantial at that time. The blueberry danish was great too, and the scones looked good.

My apple juice tasted more like apple cider vinegar, so it was promptly swapped out for orange juice (the CSM threw the rest of the bottle away).

Service was friendly and pleasant. Orders were taken front to back, but they still had all 3 options by the end, so I thought that it was fine. I noticed that the crew addressed Plats by name which was a nice touch.

Do you think it changed since recently .

Not correct as mentioned earlier definitely spirits served in J in Domestic, I have been served in Y on odd occasions as my profile shows I like a scotch.

Agree. Flying J on a Dom A330 late December, I asked if there was scotch, was offered a choice of Chivas or single malt...

HBA-SYD 11:20 flight. If this looks like a terrible dish, that’s because it was.

Scrambled eggs (burnt to a powder), bacon (soggy and wafer thin) with beans and spinach. Inedible. I normally like these breakfast/brunch options but this must have been in the oven on the way down from SYD.

Other option was feta omelette with mushrooms. Seat mate said it was OK

Decent if unremarkable service from Rachel and crew.

Usual PDBs offered while boarding continued. No pre-meal service.

Three meal options. Beef ragu with pasta; roast chicken in mushroom sauce with veg; and cold Japanese chicken with rice.

We both went for the chicken.

Pretty tasty and good amount of chicken, though a little tough. Salad was poor. Cheese average. The beef across the aisle looked good.

CSM was pretty invisible but the J attendant (I’ll butcher her name but it was something like Ninithime) was superb.
Workied non-stop and provided excellent service, even walking through the cabin frequently when lights were dimmed.
