Qantas Business Class meals & menus

I disagree for an international flyer with access to First Lounges, Platinum is really a sweet spot.
Gold doesn't cut it. Sadly this is from personal experience:(

Sorry, you're quite right - I wasn't specific enough. If I was flying o/s a lot I might feel like WP was worth chasing/retaining. But I head O/S once, occasionally twice a year. In practical terms it means using either the DXB EK J lounge, or the DFW Oneworld lounge abomination. Most of my travel is domestic. I've found the QF J domestic lounges pretty blah.

Because my O/S trips are rare, I prefer to spend as little time in lounges abroad as possible. But that's just me...

Flew a few J sectors over the weekend. Didn't partake in meal service as I'd either eaten in lounge or had post flight meal plans

I will just comment on wines - on one sector the white was a 2016 Adelaide Hills Sauv Blanc. oh it was so young I did not like it much.. but just when I thought variety was back in the skies, the next flight SYD-MEL had the *#@)_@!&)#@_@ Shaw & Smith (I heard the FA comment it was his fave because it was "one of the best")... I rolled my eyes and ordered voda

Also noted the pax in front of me, on afternoon refreshment flight (this was an A332 full in J) first wanted the cheese box then "Oh and when you come back I'll have the soup too please" (!) I was gobsmacked really. I don't know why. It was weird. Anyway FA said well they are catered to the pax numbers on that sector. Well I didn't eat and I think a few others didn't so she got her soup. That was.. different.

Sommelier in the skies my left foot.

I have to admit every flight I see that bottle on the cart my irrational and totally unjustified hatred of the stuff gets a little more intense :D

It seems like the LCC mentality is filtering into the choice of food and drink… Rather than offering premium fare for a premium (air)fare, the grub and booze are just that. Sad really when it often costs more to fly QFd transcontinental than it does to fly East Coast - SIN.

I have occasionally asked for a small taster of the soup (in my cup/mug) along with the main menu items -- never been denied. I agree it is not that unusual. More often than not I end up getting a regular bowl anyway. Pretty sure it is the one thing they won't ever run out of.

True. I had thought at least they have a big thermos of soup rather than 3 or 4 plated options.

Well guess it's not that unusual then. first time I've seen it though. She enjoyed the S&S ... maybe the 2 are linked?! :D

Tonights flight from PER-MEL

Entree was a prawn dish - average

IMG_0473.jpg
Main was chicken wings - aweful, very stodgy. The CSM noticed i didnt like it so asked if he could get me something else. I suggested the cheese platter

Which was frozen, as you can see in the middle. The cheddar was frozen solid too.

Luckily the bread was nice:-|

I must admit, this was a points upgrade so i shrugged it off, but if i was a fully paid J customer i would be very upset at the quality of food.

A passenger on a points upgrade has every right to expect the same quality of food as a fully paid J customer ( as well as the other trimmings). However if QF believe chicken wings as presented constitutes a main meal then a re-examination of J-class food is required. I doubt chicken wings would pass muster for a QF executive lunch.

QF475 MEL-PER Lunch:

"White fish of the day" turned out to be tilapia, or similar.
Presented OK, but utterly flavourless and texture-free mush.

The cheese plate wasn't too bad though.

FWIW - I ask for my cheese to come out early and then let it get to cabin temperature whilst I eat my mains.

Have you ever been knocked back in doing this? I sometimes get the cheese instead of the dessert on my coast to coast flights, but almost always come out hard/frozen so stopped getting it. Might have to try this...

I had the wings as an option on my flight back from Perth last week. Deliberately chose something else.

IMHO, anything you eat with your fingers (including the toasted sandwiches) as a main on a J flight is unacceptable. QF should up their standards.

I'll get off my DYKWIA horse now...
