Qantas Business Class meals & menus

^^^ And more pumpkin, even on international!
I haven't heard a lot of people dislike pumpkin compared to disliking kale.

Broccoli is often a very cheap vegetable. I would have thought people would swerve broccoli or brussel sprouts compared to pumpkin.

I think pumpkin soup is a common fixture in lounges, especially QPs.

Anyway, each to their own.

I literally don’t know a single person who likes pumpkin, unless hollowed out for Halloween. But I’m glad to hear it has its fanbase!

My 8 year old grandson loves pumpkin, broccoli, brussels sprouts... you name it.

Of course, grandad - perhaps unlike the outdated NP (who...?) at QF - cooks them in cool ways...

But, gosh, it seems that adults are the fussy eaters these days...

Very strange... 🤷‍♂️

Funnily, broccoli has always been one of my favourites and brussel sprouts can be really tasty if done right. But admittedly, I am a VERY fuzzy adult :p

Sydney Adelaide mid morning flight:

This must be the most disappointing Qantas meal I’ve had in years! Purser was one of those “Dad jokes” kinda guy who thought he was really funny but alas, no humour there at all. Spend about half an hour chit chatting with the bloke in 1C before finally serving the rest of the cabin which is always a good start.

After enduring the always horrid Sydney Domestic “Business” lounge, I was genuinely keen for some decent food. But, no, Qantas deems this delayed 11:35am departure way too early for a proper lunch (it was about 12:30 once I got finally served) so the “choice” of three is-called dishes was:

A salad of bright neon pink cooked salmon which smelled like Sydney fish market when you cross the Anzac bridge in the morning 🤢, two scones with clotted cream and jam (this is NOT a meal choice, Qantas, and would be an insult in Economy- also, what’s with this British Airways nonsense on an Australian flight?) or a “Vegetable sandwich on Turkish”. In lieu of anything else edible, I went for the latter and it was even worse than I thought as the so-called vegetables were mostly pumpkin. Pumpkin is not even a vegetable in my book but a sad prop for Halloween and it tasted as disgusting as it sounds.

In case this wasn’t enough carbs, there was also a sugary pastry on the side which was ice cold thanks to Mr. Chit chat and a lame muesli bar. Not good enough for a two hour flight in Business class, not good enough at all! Refreshing to see how everything gets better with the new CEO… Not.
I did ADL-SYD yesterday and exactly the same offerings. I had a glass of sparkling water and that was it. FA was good - obviously a pilot in 2D so lots of chatting there

I despise pumpkin. Good reason it’s used for pig food in some parts of the world 🤣
OK I love pumpkin. Roasted, steamed, soup you name. My parents had been married for over 30 years before dad plucked up the courage to tell mum he didn't like pumpkin

Do they clean aircraft between flights?

The nominal turnaround sometimes is a mere half hour, and those ground services don't exactly employ an army to service a plane unlike in many Asian countries.
They are supposed to. I think this is pretty poor in J.

They do- saw the “cleaning” crew just the other day before my SYD-ADL flight. Had crumbs all over the floor too and some chocolate (I hope it was chocolate and not worse! 🤢 ) smeared across the table.

Some dirt cheap third party outsourced “cleaning” company, of course. So not too surprised tbh.

This was my seat on J yesterday SYD ADL when I got on. Pretty slack cleaning

When I go to the galley and ask for a cleaning cloth, I reiterate that the time allocated for cleaning is probably much less than needed. I don’t blame the cleaners at all. Not enough time, I usually take an alcohol wipe with me to wipe the tray table, screen and arm rests.

Really- no airplane passenger should have to do this, not even in Economy and even less so in Business. Definitely not on any airline that would consider themselves a “quality” carrier.
Had 2 flights on SAS recently where they were boarding passengers through the front door whilst arriving passengers were still disembarking from the rear. No cleaning at all possible

QF941 BNE-PER Sun 5th May 2024 Sched 1845, pushback 1844, takeoff 1851 (19L)

One of the most prompt evening departures from BNE in living memory. Very good service from CSM Richard.

As per the post covid new normal no PDB but a pre dinner Scotch offered soon after the seat belt sign was off, and a top up before the dinner cart was deployed.

Dinner options were a cold salad, a chicken curry of some sort (please QF, restore the printed menus so I don't have to rely on my memory impaired by too many J lounge margaritas du jour ) and a beef brisket, which of course this bovine preferring carnivore went for. Good actually, not far short of the FLounge offering of last winter. Stupidly forgot to take a picture, but was the standard post 2020 single tray presentation. There was a better than expected smoked salmon salad on the side also. Washed down with a better than average Xanadu Vinework cabernet ($30 from the winery), obviously not their best but still a very decent offering.

Maggie's ice cream to finish, with the welcome return of dessert wine on the side.

Into PER a little early, all in all as good as possible from 738 J in the brave new world. Pleased though that all the future trips this year back from BNE are going to be via SYD, with a 789 from there :)
