Qantas Business Class meals & menus

QF22 DFW-MEL
27 Aug
789 VH-ZNL

Flight was scheduled for 2040 but pushback wasn't until 2155, presumably a result of the late arrival of ZNL from Sydney due to a refrigeration issue. As predicted, I was informed by text message earlier in the day that the second meal service would be "a variation from our standard menu, and we may not be able to cater for those with specific dietary requirements".

I was able to view ZNL's late arrival into Dallas from the AA Flagship Lounge in Dallas (along with some gloomy weather in the background). Plenty of showers were available upon my arrival into the lounge at around 6.15pm, with the lounge getting noticeably quieter prior to the departure of the BA192 A380 service to London at 1925. Unfortunately no toothbrushes were available in the showers or on request (staff advised that they hadn't had them 'since the start of the year').

Unsurprisingly no breakfast order card was offered due to the aforementioned refrigeration issue (which meant offerings would be limited to croissants, muffins, toast and a fruit/cheese plate).

CSM Brendon was excellent and proactively apologised for the issue, and his crew were all friendly and hard working. A stark contrast to the overwhelmingly apathetic crews on the 30+ flights I had taken on American Airlines over the past few months. A rather generous 30,000 points were proactively provided as a gesture of goodwill to make up for the lack of hot breakfast options one day after the flight which was appreciated.

Sweet potato, ginger and turmeric soup: wasn't a fan of this dish as the flavour was overwhelmingly ginger-y. Although I didn't finish it, I'm sure the copious amount of ginger did wonders for my immune system😄

Grilled halibut: the accompaniments of potatoes and broccolini were nice, but unfortunately the fish was quite dry and not particularly enjoyable.

I forgot to take a photo of breakfast (which was just a piece of toast and a croissant - sadly no peanut butter was available). Overall the food on this flight was fairly average, but a very good flight overall thanks to the wonderful crew.

Have just scored a First classic rewards seat on QF12 in October. As I haven’t been lucky enough to fly QF since pre-Covid, does anyone know what champers they tend to serve these days?

Long time ago, it used to be the Taittinger Comtes and then for many years, you get Veuve Grande Dame which I had personally preferred. Can anyone please report what they load these days? Hopefully not some cheap pseudo-decent Millesime like what AA serves as “First”. Very curious to hear, thanks all!

We had Rare in November from LAX … but that was obviously a while ago

Oh- that’s the top of the range from Piper-Heidsieck, isn’t it? I’ve honestly never tried that one so wouldn’t mind giving that a go!

Mr Flyfrequently not impressed with his "stewed" Beef fillet - he doesn't listen!

Pre arrival BLT, had the spicy prawns in June

Baaaah- Qantas! You’ve outdone yourself again, it seems. What the heck is this sad little piece of white bread with some tired lettuce leaf and a slice of boring supermarket bacon in the midst of it???

Unless it tasted surprisingly nice? Crusty French baguette, some churned butter and amaaaazing Bacon? I don’t think so… It just looks sad and lonely there on the plate o_O

Big mistake Mr Flyfrequently. Always listen to your wife.
(I may or may not heed my advice from time to time)

Thanks a lot! I tried to find a First thread before asking on here but somehow it did not come up in the results.

Sounds like Cuvée Louise is a standard at the moment. I’ve just been to their cellar door in Reims a month back or so and I would not mind that drop all night at all! :p

QF9 PER-LHR

This was the first flight on the route after the recent route suspension.

1000013940.jpg

Went the Buffalo Mozzarella for starter - which I enjoyed.

1000013953.jpg

Seared Snapper for main - which I also largely enjoyed, but didn't like the flavour of the scallops. While it is seafood, I'm not sure if it needed to be served swimming in moisture.

1000013954.jpg

Finished off the meal with a Cheese Plate before falling asleep too early.

1000013955.jpg

Had a mid flight BLT... which exceeded my expectations. Was great.

1000013969.jpg

Followed by breakfast. Bacon was probably best I've had on a plane.

1000013972.jpg

Overall, an enjoyable flight. Crew were great and responsive. Long time on a plane though and not sure I have it in me to do in economy.

Probably major negative is the Perth Lounge. Unfortunately it is too small to achieve what Qantas is trying to do in Perth at the moment and was super crowded. Given it is fairly new, it really highlights how poor QF strategic thinking is.

Actually dare I say @Berlin it was the stand out dish of the flight!

Champagne is like pumpkin - overrated 🤣

Interesting comparison of our plated Snapper dish @hutch
Barely a hint of the shellfish sauce yesterday, it may have made my Snapper more palatable.
Agree with the BLT - it hit the spot !

QF35 MEL - SIN
Great flight, arrived on time and crew seemed to be enjoying their work. J cabin full as usual.
Prawn dumplings and then plant based option (stir fry mushrooms, tofu and beans). Great views over WA during the flight. PJs offered.
