Qantas Cash - combined frequent flyer and travel money card

Hi all,

I have just activated my Qantas Cash card and loaded with $US in advance of a trip to USA later this week.

I have made 2 online purchases in $US with the card, but another 3 have failed. The failed transactions are mostly for theatre and event tickets on different websites, booking before I head on the trip.

On calling the Qantas Cash centre, the staff member said that as a security precaution for prepaid cards, a transaction will be declined unless the postcode/zipcode is passed through to the bank merchant.

In all failed transactions, I had entered my address with correct postcode attached, but it appears that those USA theatre/event websites don't pass the postcode through to bank merchant, so I can't make those online purchases!

The Qantas Cash staff have assured me that in-person transactions while travelling should be fine. (I hope so.)

Very frustrating, as I had budgeted and loaded the relevant amount in $US for those and future purchases, but am having to use my own credit card and getting hit with fees instead.

Anyone else come up against this problem?

US sites are likely expecting a 5-digit zip code. Try adding a leading zero to your 4-digit Aussie post code.

There is no more monthly fee for inactive accounts.

Can anyone confirm this? I haven't activated mine, as I didn't want to pay $1/mth for the 'privilege'. However, it looks like I could load some money on it, and just leave it there, without the balance reducing?

Yes, the monthly fee was dropped quite some time ago.

This is easily confirmed on the Qantas Cash web site.

For further peace of mind you can refer to Part A, point 6 of the PDS.

Thanks, I did read both of these, jsut wanted someone to confirm that they were no longer seeing these fees on their account. might open one up, like a prepaid debit card, without fees (except ATM withdrawal fee of $1.95), but I'll use it for purchases.

A Curious hiccup happened to me. The Qantas cash card I had just recently diverted money into was blocked. Unable to take money out as a new card Qantas Cash card ( my Frequent Flyer card) has been sent out to me. It was the end of its use by date being reassessment on End of February. This effectively blocked all access to my account ...... Bloody ridiculous it's been >2 weeks now.

I have had to written to QF Cash to transfer my $$ back into my bank account and to close my account.

Silly they do this without giving any notice !

I say it's not good that they send the card after the old card expires!

Unlike banks who send a new card out month(s) before its end of use date.

Have just activated and loaded my Qantas Cash card. What PIN does one enter for cash withdrawal at an overseas ATM or for purchases? It can't be the Qantas Cash PIN as that is alphanumeric and too many digits. Is it just the FF PIN? Can't see a clear answer to this on the website.

Many thanks for the instant response and the link, FrankC. I hadn't realized that yet a third PIN was required. What a bore that it can't be of one's own choosing.

Have just logged in to my Qantas Cash account and received a pop-up message stating that you can now set your own PIN at RediATM machines ... or I think it did!! Of course, I was in a hurry to do something else and now cannot recreate the pop-up!!

Regards,

BD
Seems like a new feature!

Interesting thing i thought i would share.

As i was boarding on my last set of flights I handed the flight attendant my PS Q card at the gate for scanning.
The FA says "oh, thats almost like a credit card". As she handed me the card back i just say "Yeah, does a little".

That reminds me to ask: Does one have to notify Qantas Cash in advance of travel overseas, for the same reasons as one should inform all one's usual banks? If so, is there a way of doing so online, or must it be by phone? If the latter, what's the best number to ring to get through quickly?
