Qantas Cash Issues

Read this just when I was thinking of starting to use it. Oh well, QF will just have to miss out, not locking up my money.

Sorry to minimise the quote, however I'd be keen to follow this up with your colleague.

If possible, please send me a private message with the details as reference so I can investigate with the Qantas Cash team.

i would be interested to hear the outcome of this without having to go through the whole process (be overseas and find card is cut off).

At a strategic level - can you please report back here with the outcome? It shouldn't need to have particular details forwarded for the question to be asked of the cash team.

We need to know if it is in fact true that the card cannot be used if we change status while we are away. And if we are issued with a new card - are there any additional fees and charges that apply for transferring money from the old card to the new card? Or is it a like-for-like process.

Looking at the product disclosure statement there doesn't seem to be anything about card expiry when you change status level. (see section 12 of the PDS)

There have been at least three members report similar, in fact its not just a status change that triggers a lock on the facility, any new card issuance. As per the website, there are no fees and charges payable for card to card transfers

Appreciate a number of members have reported this, but the QF representative has said they want specifics to make an enquiry. It seems the outcome of that enquiry would be beneficial to others if there is a range of other circumstances in which a card might be deactivated.

I've given Red Roo the details needed, so let's see what happens. I do know that there was no fees or charges when the cards changed, the only issue was the original card failed to work....

When you are overseas, that only is a rather significant ONLY and I'd suspect a deal breaker around people's anniversary.

with plenty of DSC promos and the recent premium cabin promotion it is also quite possible a lot of people will change status while away.

The cash and status issue are different and need to be delinked.

when do the point get posted? OT I know!

Yes. But I think as they're using the same card for Club Access and the cash card they've made things complicated.

As they say in politics when great plans unravel - Unintended Consequences. AKA - we didn't think it through properly.

Yeah but as someone noted earlier, this is a Frequent FLYER program, surely the needs of flyers should be front and center!

It's also interesting if this issues is a program simply over an anniversary of status, not just a change of status..... that I'm not sure of. Not that it really bothers me, I'd use other cash cards anyway if I chose to use that type of currency access.

Absolutely. But sometimes the powers that be don't have the same agenda, or maybe even the same knowledge, as the consumer.

Anniversaries are important too as that's the time when status downgrades occur.

Maybe they pondered that issue and decided that generally, members of the target audience for the facility would not be changing status all that much.

Except the problem happens when a new card is issued regardless of status change.

I was silver and went to gold.... I would have thought I would have been part of the target audience and I had 3000.00 tied up which I couldn't access whilst overseas

That is just not good enough for a travel card.

At the very least, there is the possibility that a person will change status every year. I have gone up and down over the past couple of years - SC-WP-SG-WP- and it will be back to SG in a few weeks (sigh). Even without status changes, a new card is issued at least once a year. I am not tying money up on a card with the possibility that I will not be able to access it.
I would have been devastated if what happened to you eric2011. Not having access to three grand would have made it difficult if I was on holiday.

It did make life difficult. This was in the early days of cash card, I had saved the spending money for our holiday and instead of leaving it in my savings account with Suncorp and accessing it with my debit card etc I thought I would try out this new fan dangled thing called cash card and get some FF points whilst I was at it. In the end I had to do a transfer from my credit card to my savings account so that I could carry on. This was expensive due to the interest charges.

I think at the very least there should be some warning of this in the next QF newsletter?

Red Roo - is that something you could suggest the writers of that?

Don't forget when signing up for these things, we all tick the box that says "you have read, understand and agree with the T&C's". However as much warning that can be put out there can only be good.
This forum is most probably one of the bests forms of information available.

but i read the terms and conditions and the PDF and I didn't see any warning that the card would be voided if i changed status while away. If it is there i missed it, and only thanks to AFF did I find out.
