Having been around for longer QF probably has more legacy systems to deal with. Starting a new airline VA would have started with a much more modern system.
hmmm.....company I work for been around since 1960's. we just updated out entire logistical system 2 years ago.

I dare say cos your an old, but successful company you can't update your dated IT system at some point.

Would be silly not to, wouldn't it?

Last couple years would've been optimal time to make an update for an airline, just a thought.
Alas that time was spent working out the Green Tier invention, which QF have never had more Tasmanian FF residents!!

Banks typically have a lot of legacy systems, not just airlines. There’s a view if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Replacing critical systems is not a small task and mistakes can have big consequences. QF has been strapped for cash during COVID-19 and thus far has avoided insolvency unlike Virgin.

Yes, IT systems should be modernized but in order to minimise disruption for customers, it requires extensive development and testing. Also a new system may work fine in a lab environment but when it receives hundreds of thousand requests it can fall over in the real world.

I happen to work in an organisation ith a finance management system that is 20ish years old. The vendor itself no longer supports it fully and it's had various patches and nuts and bolts tweaked over the years but everyone knows it should have been put out of our misery 10+ years ago. Those in IT have long called for it, but actually replacing it is a cost the budget cannot support, plus the disruption, and that a project to properly replace could run several years and all of this put together means it's still being held together with duct tape and prayer....

I am not saying QF is like his, but we all know there is a lot of legacy there. We like to poke fun at the work experience kids in IT, but I'd bet you anything there would be those in there who have been pushing internally for reform and probably hit various brick walls - both some that are reasonable/understandable and others that aren't.

Would be keen to hear any experiences with Alliance on getting the promo.
An unfortunate series of events, Sydney Weather, means I need to re-jig and Alliance operated QF flights keep coming up.
First time in two years, I've had to think about sydney weather and flight disruptions... lol
Alliance and QantasLink are OK for this promo so that is fine. These flights are more or less considered QF metal (since QFLink are all owned by QF, and Alliance is a bit different but still is OK). It's more that non QF partners (eg: EK) will not qualify.

The T&C say flight credits can be used but it may need to be manually adjusted. Travel Passes will be absolutely fine for this promo.

imo.

I have to say, I'm a bit risk adverse on Alliance being eligible. Alliance is a separate corporate entity to Qantas and the aircraft are painted as Alliance. Qantaslink is slightly different being part of the Qantas group and aircraft painted as Qantas.
Yes, I do see that Jetstar is also part of the qantas group, but then again jetstar is specifically excluded from the promo.
I do think assuming Qantas link fits is perfectly normal. I'm just not so certain about Alliance, although it's not unreasonable to assume alliance is included.
An Eligible Flight for the purpose of this promotion means a Qantas operated flight with a QF flight number on an Australian Domestic or International ticket where Qantas Points and Status Credits are normally earned. The Eligible Flight does not need to be a sale fare. Any flight with a QF flight number on the ticket which is not operated by Qantas including Jetstar, Jetstar Asia, Jetstar Japan, Jetstar Pacific and other partner airlines will not be eligible for this offer. For full details, see terms and conditions.

Fully understand this and yes Alliance in this case is not owned by QF but they are operated AS QF metal flights - some of the E190's are even painted in QF livery iirc, and QF have ordered more per the agreement.

There was an issue when the flights to/from ASP were first introduced what a year or so back and they weren't crediting properly but that was resolved.

Personally I am 100% confident on this despite the wording above..

However, I absolutely understand being risk adverse, specially with all the little "gotchyas" with such things. I feel certain that QF consider QF19xx flights operated on behalf of QF by Alliance are considered QF "metal" ("on behalf of" as opposed to "codeshare with"). Remember you're flying on QF flight 19xx to wherever not Alliance flight 1234, sold as QF 19xx.

Thanks.
i've only had two QF-Alliance flights and those were Alliance livery. So didn't realise some were in QF livery.
I wasn't 100% sure, but in the back of my mind I had the thought that Alliance also operates flights for VA, but didn't say as I wasn't sure about that point.
I feel a more confident now. Thanks again

If it's sold only as QF, it's a QF flight. If it's sold as QQ and QF, then it's a codeshare and not eligible (not sure if any fit in to this category - but hypothetically).

For the most part, eg QF1947, it's only sold as QF.

I booked a flex fare Sydney > Wagga flight during double status promotion week. I flew it on Saturday morning and I’ve logged into my QFF account and have noticed that I’ve only got the normal 20 status credits for the flight. My question is, should the double status credits show up straight away or does it take some time? If it should be there what do I do to claim them and if it takes time how long? FYI I registered for double status.

No way it should take weeks & this batch processing is so old skool way of doing things.
It's just another Johnny useless QF IT issue, or non issue as management see it.

If it's good enough for VA to process their DSC immediately at same time of normal SC then I dare say it should be good enough for the national carrier.

I opted for double points & no idea when they'll arrive, only took the single flight to extend my Gold for another year.

I have never had DSC post at the same time as the usual SC. Maybe 1-2 weeks. Patience Grasshopper.

It usually takes a few days or so, however the first batch always takes longer than that. I flew on the first day of the flying window and then again a few days or so later and am still waiting for DSC to post.

The T&Cs allow for them starting to credit 8 weeks after travel, so if you call up before then the call centre will presumably just tell you to wait.

I found the DSCs from last year's promotion tended to consistently post within 24-72 hours. This year's promotion is definitely taking longer. I have flights from a week ago that haven't posted yet, but seems to be a common theme so not too worried about it.

The first batch always takes longer. Once they’ve done the first batch it should be pretty quick for the rest of the promo flying period.

Of all the things to be upset with QF about this isn't really one of them IMO. It's pretty consistent for DSC to post within 48 hours which is really not that bad in the grand scheme of things. What VA can or can't do is kind of irrelevant - they are built on a totally different platform. IMO a better comparision would be to a carrier that also uses Amadeus and how they deal with such promos. The big lag with posting DSC is usually at the start of a new promo(and with TravelPasses) but then it is usually very consistent (uh oh, I wrote that about QF! KMN!).

I'd also note QF is not the only one who processes these things in batches that show up later. IHG hotels just finished a 2x promo and those did not show up for a few days or up to a week after stays credited.

yes, if one is expecting them to post around an anniversary date then it can lead to some anxiety, but QF does actually figure it out and retrospectively give appropriate status change where due.

It's not perfect no. of course not.. but again on the list of "things wrong with QF" I'd say this would be some way down a rather long list.

(and I am waiting for some DSC for flights from April 6 to post)

I created a gift voucher and have since used it. No DSC posted. Anyone else experienced this?
