Qantas Club Dress Standards...Stubbies, singlet and thongs....What the???

In fact, the terms and conditions do say that dress standards must be at least "smart casual". The issues are:
a) what does that term mean?
b) are lounge staff enforcing it?

And that's where this whole, enormous thread started!

I think the term "smart casual" is well understood by everyone. I think those that decide to "flaunt" this because they "just can" or can't/don't read the t&cs are either slobs or attention seekers, neither of which are society groups that I care to mix with.

This is why, in many instances I fly Q (which is every week) I tend to miss out the lounge completely and just go and get a decent cup of coffee at the gate. In fact if I am travelling on holiday and am wewaring coughpy clothes I won't go to the lounge anyway as I know I don't meet the dress code. Thats called respect I think - another thing lacking in the slobs and attention seekers.

Perhaps its breeding?

Mate, im in the Flounge (Sydney) now, Saturday afternoon, 80% of the people are dressed very casual (not biz casual), flights to Denpasar and Honolulu leaving within the hour. Breeding...I'm sorry but its a weekend. BTW, I'm sure QF loves all the revenue in here right now, packed to the rafters of very happy people.

i bet those boardies cost an arm and a leg... and as for that t-shirt, you know Gucci spent weeks trying to make it look ratty enough to be cool and cost $399 ;)

I don’t doubt it, but where did he get the invisible footwear from?

Qantas Club clientele have been going downmarket (not just dress wise) for ages. You should see the Perth one - fully represents the tradies and mid level road warriors that comprise the membership base these days.

Top tier platinums are far less likely to use the lounges: these people don't have much spare airport time, and don't get excited by free food.
Of course the Chairman's Club group have their own far more salubrious space!

I wear these.
Vibram FiveFingers - KOMODOSPORT
or
Vibram FiveFingers - KSO
Best "invisible footwear" ever.

I wear them with jeans and a shirt or polo. all of which cost a pretty sum, including these shoes.

When I travel I always travel J weather it be interstate or OS. I think i have the right to "non" biz attire. If my fellow pax dont agree then tough.

I think of my own comfort before others pax concerns for my attire.

Have a great flight where ever you maybe traveling to.

I have to agree. Even though my earlier post suggested each to their own - these (I believe they are worn to practise barefoot running?) shoes just turn me off...

...though it could be due to my aversion of toes! ;)

They are more comfortable than normal shoes. No more walking around the plane with barefeet or plan socks.
As someone who loves walking around barefeet (not to mention that I grew up not wearing shoes at all) they are the next best thing to it.

As for "just for barefoot running" is not correct.
There is a mountain of uses for these shoes, including travel.

All I can say is don't knock'em till you have tried them.:D:p

On this thread we've seen "surfers" with board shorts and bare feet, "Bali'ites" with stubbies and thongs, "suits" with their appropriate gear, and "tourists" with smart casual, but we're missing one group who fly to waterbound destinations; yup, divers; can you imagine the scene, wet-suits, lycra booties, mask and fins over the shoulder, and tank and weights in the vacant seat besides them, what next???????????

Cheers Dee

Interestingly, l am in the SYD J Lounge (and in the past hour or so), have seen about 8-10 women wearing thongs/sandals and about 4-6 men with thongs (and one teenager in boardies/thongs combo).

Make of that what you will. Does it bother me, not really. As long as l don't see a Borat 1 piece, l'm fine.

OT; They could turn the air-con off and heaters on. It's like a meat locker at the moment.

i think it is time to get out the safari suit.

Lived in them in the mid seventies whilst in Malaysia and Singapore, light weight, wash and dry overnight, about $S 12 with an extra pair of shorts. T'was the rage in those days, along with much Tiger and Anchor Beer at the local bars................

Cheers Dee

**bump**

sitting in the qf f lounge here in SIN and there's a guy with thongs (reminds me of myself but im wearing shoes but a v neck t shirt today) ... who is discreetly on the phone and doing his own thing quietly .... whilst next to him is i believe a CL member .. i am guessing this bcos his Q tag is matt black and i havent seen this before.

anyway thongs and neat clothing plus discreet behaviour gets my thumbs up :)

My attire for a very last minute work trip (weight limited);
Joggers (Asics), jeans and a polo.

Last week, SYD J Lounge, no one batted an eyelid
Today, BNE J Lounge, l swear every suit was boring holes in me.

Having said that, l was only in the lounge for about 10 minutes as l had to run for a connecting flight.
