Qantas Club Dress Standards...Stubbies, singlet and thongs....What the???

I like the announcement but I don't think they will (be able) enforce it.

I can honestly say I've never had a problem with anyone else's dress standards. Plus why would it affect me what pants another passenger is wearing?
Or not wearing?

There is a time and place to wear the clothes/footwear mentioned in the announcement. The airport, and more importantly an airline lounge, is not one of those places.

For me personally, I don't care what people wear, it's about behaviour and respect for fellow travellers.

Unfortunately, at the risk of being a little judgemental, poor behaviour and thongs singlets seem to go together in a lot of cases.

I've seen just as many people dressed in suits who don't know how to behave. There is absolutely zero connection between the clothes people wear before they fly and their behaviour in the lounge.
Enforcing dress code means nothing, I want to see people who behave badly and disturb others to be thrown out of the lounge even if they wear expensive Armani suits!

Exactly. The more expensive the suit.. the more sense of entitlement some of the people have.

My next J flight (not QF as they don't fly there) will be either in sports gear, i.e trackies and runners or.. if transiting BKK shorts and thongs. I'll be sure to not care too much. :)

I don't have a problem with thongs providing the people wearing them are clean...singlets however remind me of sweaty blokes at the gym and I don't think thats ideal at the QP or any lounge.

Eligible lounge visitors wearing uniforms will still be permitted to access our lounges, and this includes hi-vis work wear.

Until they crack down on hi-vis, what's the point on cracking down on anything else? It seems ridiculous to me that people can't take off their hi-vis jackets for the half hour they are in the Qantas Club. It's hideous, and often filthy!

I simply don't understand the obsession some people have with dress code. If I don't like what someone else wears, I look away.
Unfortunately when someone is talking loudly with his mates or on the mobile I can't ignore them and I'm forced to hear everything, even when I'm trying to do some work (some people still use the J lounge for work, not just as a pub). I even tried using NC headphones, it didn't help.
So, if QF is going to enforce a dress code it's only fair they will also enforce a behaviour code.

Dress standards, reminds me of my old days at boarding school no thank you I'll be having none of that. A designer singlet and tailored shorts on a gym fit guy is a great look and demonstrates pride in their appearance. It's a confident look not everyone can pull off. Let people be who they are. I look forward to being given the 'once over' look by Qantas staff ROFL!

Yes, and I think "tailored shorts" is too. ;)

In defence of the tailored long shorts (that is my husband choice of flying attire), there is a difference between the unironed/wrinkle effect cargo long shorts and tailored shorts that are made from heavier fabric and if ironed correctly, have a sharp line about them.

<SNIP> It's hideous, and often filthy!

This is the crux for me. I often wear a suit on business trips, not designer just off the peg Myer bought or similar, but I do like to keep it clean. The filthy state of some people in the lounges is the bit I don't like, as you never quite know what's waiting for you when you find a seat in a busy lounge.

Designer singlet.......oh dear.

I was going to say pretty much exactly that. Surely she's not CL and even if Geoffrey is there's no way those ripped hold ups would pass the dress code surely.

It's the nails that did it for me.

That, and thinking about going through security in those heels and those belts!

I dress smartly when travelling because I keep running into people I know in the lounge! I still want to be able to make a good impression, and it doesn't matter what anyone says - we are all judged on the way we look!

So I don't mind the dress code - I love the people-watching when travelling regardless of what they wear.

Is a a singlet less of a singlet because it has a small logo somewhere?
