There is a policy, it's simply not enforced (Post #1).
"10.7 Smart, casual dress standards apply at all times. Individual lounge managers will have discretion to administer these standards as they reasonably deem appropriate in the circumstances."

Okay. When I'm wrong, I'm wrong. I stand corrected. Believe it or not I will be dressed smart casual next time. As far as I'm concerned rules are rules.

So last Sunday was upgraded to J and in Row 1 flying BNE-PER.Wore smart casual slacks, collared shirt and boat shoes. Those around me were all in shorts-even the women. So who got served first, the only one to be offerred an extra meal and asked if they wanted anything else to drink?Well it wasn't someone in shorts.

My partner and I flew wearing shorts the other day. Served first, no shortage of drinks and plenty of food.

It was a wonderfully comfortable flight.

Oh, and the world kept turning.

:)

Now ewing don't get your thongs in a knot.
Mine was just an example that on some occasions the way you dress will influence your treatment by others.
At other times it will be irrelevant.

In response to customer feedback, our minimum smart casual dress guidelines will be more closely applied to all visitors entering our Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney Qantas Clubs or Business lounges from 1 April 2015. Entry may be refused at the discretion of the lounge staff if visitors do not meet the appropriate standard. We want to create a comfortable atmosphere in our lounges that all visitors can enjoy

"But in all the other Qantas Clubs, we confirm that absolutely anything goes . A comfortable atmosphere is not required at HBA, ASP, CNS, TSV or anywhere else outside civilisation. Turn up in your jock strap if you like."

I welcome this announcement, but why not make it a blanket application? Hopefully the author is just ignorant about the existence of QCs outside the named cities, and they aren't tolerating anything goes elsewhere.

This one if the things that drives me nuts about Qantas. Why wouldn't you make it a blanket statement, for goodness sake? Actual enforcement is another matter.

Without stereotyping too much...I think QF would need to hire extra security staff to enforce "smart casual" in some locations (e.g BME, DRW).
At BME there is a big sign saying something like: "No shoes, no flight"...

I hear what you are saying, hence my aside re enforcement. But it's bizarre isn't it?

Bizarre indeed! My guess is that they took the list of "City flyer" destinations. By that QF standard HBA is not a city:lol:

LOL wonder if they'll start policing across the genders - plenty of girls like to show their toes...
I wouldn't call myself a girl (40 years too late), but I invariably wear sandals (dressy but not covered shoes) when travelling......I wouldn't quite bet my house on it, but I am pretty confident I won't be booted out of the lounge or a premium cabin.

What does it mean? What is the interpretation of smart casual? I wonder if people in "smart casual" or "business attire" will still be allowed to put their stinking filthy feet up on the tables! I couldn't care less what people wear but anti-social behaviour can be a significant issue.

I can honestly say I've never had a problem with anyone else's dress standards. Plus why would it affect me what pants another passenger is wearing?
