Qantas Club Dress Standards...Stubbies, singlet and thongs....What the???

Appears that QF has now added to previous post and defined smart casual:

...Entry may be refused at the discretion of the lounge staff if visitors do not meet the appropriate standard. Lounge staff will use their discretion to determine if a visitor to the lounge meets our smart casual dress guidelines. Singlets, bare feet, rubber thongs and clothing with offensive images or slogans are, in most cases likely to be deemed unacceptable. Eligible lounge visitors wearing uniforms will still be permitted to access our lounges, and this includes hi-vis work wear.

The vast majority of our members meet and exceed the guidelines, but we have had some feedback from guests that they want to see those guidelines apply to everyone. We want to create a comfortable atmosphere in our lounges that all visitors can enjoy.

For more information refer to the terms and conditions of lounge access here

So it looks like if I wear sneakers, denim shorts and a plain tshirt, they won't refuse. I guess I can go so far as to put shoes on. Kind of annoying though in summer. Anyone who cares what people wear beyond something being dirty/offensive/revealing is ridiculous.

I fully agree with this!

Qantas Club to enforce smarter dress code

We are very thankful for this great service the airlines provide and want to make it a pleasant experience for everyone

Everything that the airline provides, we customers pay for. Nothing illustrates this more than the exemption for hi-viz which makes a mockery of a smart casual dress code enforcement but looks after some very important corporate customers. Maybe I should don the hi-viz vest from my car into the F lounge!

this fight over high-viz is stupid. most guys who wear it on the plane dont have a choice, dont get to change after shift or are just up for the day. Whats so offensive about it? Does it affect peoples delicate sensibilities? What I find ultimately amusing is, the people who spruik some of this bs about what people need to wear where, probably earn much less than the high viz crowd and also spend less with the airlines.

Absolutely. QF can't have it both ways. As long as people's privates are covered and they are essentially neat then what's the problem. Corporate clothing is not just a suit these days. Btw no one at two if the worlds most successful companies, Apple and Google wear suits, it's T-shirts and jeans. Check out the market cap of those two companies and compare it to the ASX

Until they crack down on hi-vis, what's the point on cracking down on anything else? It seems ridiculous to me that people can't take off their hi-vis jackets for the half hour they are in the Qantas Club. It's hideous, and often filthy!

Because when there's ~40 of them crowded at the QP bar in PER they all need to stand out to be served their beers first? :D

*duck & cover*

They in most cases arent jackets they are shirts. they likely have worked a night shift and have been shipped straight to the airport, checking out of accommodation the night before shift. also, it is likely their company policy to wear uniform to/from work/in transit. Not a single person I know willingly will wear high vis in transit. Get off your high horse.

the lack of understanding and self entitlement in your post is pretty high.

Bare feet should never be acceptable anywhere except for beach and least of all in a lounge.

Rubber thongs and singlets are not much better.

What you say is correct though as is pointed out by fifo people are 'often' controlled by company policy.

In the cases you quote however there are quite a few who abuse the system wearing, as suze2000 says, scruffy (my word) jackets that could be removed to make them more presentable. ;)

Maybe a broader understanding is needed both ways. I have been involved in the oil industry for more years than many here have been alive and seen all sides including many who would happily wear high viz in transit just to stir the pot. Maybe the horse really isn't that high.

Personally I don't care about the high viz but I do care about the scruffy individuals, with or without high viz. ;)

Thanks mr judgemental. Maybe i'll wear shoes/socks, just to keep you happy? Or maybe i'll avoid wearing them, as they scratch at my many scars from military service.
Thats not my point however, my point is, what affect does someone wearing thongs have on you? Or bare feet?

This I can agree with. But in the essence of Australia, further regulation is not the answer.

And Qantas might have a problem too!

Our guys Have to wear high vis so when we get to site we can start straight away.

So what will probably happen is no lounge access they will ask to fly Virgin.

If they are clean and presentable it shouldn't matter

seriously....how long does it take to put the hi vis jacket on when they get on site?

I need to wear theatre scrubs at work, and I need to start as soon as I get into theatre....but I don't wear them To get to work

TQ

If you read the Qantas announcement uniforms and hi vis are acceptable. So unless the clothes are extremely dirty or scruffy access will not be denied and no one will be asking to fly Virgin.

I hope no one who works in theatres wears their scrubs to work.Nothing to do with what they look like.
The fellows wearing Hi vis to work are usually put straight on a bus and straight to work.I have no problems with their apparel in the lounge or on board.I have even sat beside one on his way home.Nice fellow and a good seat companion. No BO that I could detect.

I think you're all being very unfair to the hi-viz boys & girls. If it wasn't for them, short sighted old buggers like me wouldn't be able to find the bar! I just head for the big yellow blob - and voila! Works every time.
:):lol::):lol:
