Unless I missed it the QF website doesn't specify times for brekky service in the lounge. In my experience (though I use the J lounges) they take the stuff away anywhere between 0830 and 0900 - I suspect when items are consumed they won't cook up a new batch past a certain time.
Is this a reasonable policy? (I mean the times) I don't know. I don't know that it's up to me. I suspect it is a cost thing since the "all day dining" stuff is going to be cheaper for QF to offer the sandwich/salad fixings than cooking up eggs, snags etc.
In the OP's case it could well have been that they showed up 5 minute after the eggs were exhausted and not replaced. Does that mean QF did not keep their promise? Only if they promoted specific times items would be available til. I know when I use the J lounge I sure as heck don't expect much stuff post 0830 - even on weekends when you'd think more relaxed rules would apply. I'm just happy to get my strong coffee (in a glass
)
I've also noticed they remove the juice (orange/apple) offerings early too. Used to be there all day, now it goes by 0900. At least at MEL anyway.
I didn't actually know QF had brought in ipad ordering (NZ started this awhile back and works quite well there) and maybe it's still got gitches unfortunately. I didn't see it in the MEL J lounge when I was there recently, but then again "my" Barista sees me walk in and knows my order (it's sad to be a semi-regular lol)
QP's *do* have separate Gluten Free bread and stuff which I think is a great thing for the intolerant.
I think the maccas analogy is this - when you go to maccas you order you KNOW what to expect. It may not be the world's best food or whatever, but you know. You also know (well until recently) they serve brekky items till 1030am as it's always been advertised that way. Maybe that's the difference... Maccas provide a consistent product and you know what to expect to be available and when you expect it. QF's not so clearly definited on the timings in the lounges.. and maybe that's the issue.
Really though if I set my expectations by food availability in the domestic QP or J lounge I'd be unimpressed mostly. My next QF dom flight is a morning flight and I expect to arrive in the lounge around 0815-0130 - if there are no eggs and snags you know I won't cry about it. If desparate, I can go out of the lounge to... maccas!! (or HJ's or whatever). Sure a Sunday morning greasy snag or 2 before a flight is quite an enjoyable treat but my world won't end if I can't.
