Qantas Delays/Cancellations

On Holy Thursday, 24 March 2016, QF403, the 0645 SYD down to MEL was cancelled as was QF407, the 0715 departure. Similarly, QF1463 (0730 SYD to CBR) did not operate.

Northbound on the same route, QF408 (the 0700 hours departure) and QF402 (0745, strangely not in sequential flight numbers) have both 'got the gong.'

QF762, the 0800 hours PER to MEL departed at 0858 with arrival in the Victorian capital suggested as 25 minutes late at 1500 hours.

QF1735 (0815 BNE north to 'cattle country' in ROK) has been cancelled while the southbound 0835 hours BNE to CBR (QF1545) will instead depart at a projected 0915 with arrival in the national capital similarly 40 minutes late at 1205.

The 0830 transcontinental SYD to PER, QF485 has been delayed in departing by half an hour to 0900.

The important longhaul flight, QF11 from SYD to LAX is expected to depart at 1130 instead of 1030 but if that is achieved, QF sugests that the arrival delay will only be 20 minutes - 0645 instead of 0625 hours.

QF1473 (1045 mid morning SYD to CBR) is predicted to leave 50 minutes late at 1135.

QF667 from BNE to ADL is timetabled to depart at 1055 but has been delayed until an expected 1220. QF2330, the 1230 hours from BNE to GLT has been cancelled.

The 1135 SYD to HKG, QF127, departed at 1223. Arrival is expected half an hour late at 1815 this evening.

Today is one of the busiest days in the year for domestic airlines (only Boxing Day would be a rival) so delays may increase as the day wears on.

QF743, the Thursday 24 March 1810 hours SYD across to ADL did not take off until 1957 hours (B738 VH-VZT) and should arrive at about 2115 hours, 90 minutes behind time.

The Good Friday (25 March 2016) arrival of QF8 in SYD is expected to be at 0745 instead of 0605, 100 minutes late. This is pretty unusual as QF7 and QF8 (the latter ex DFW) have a very good to excellent punctuality record.

On Good Friday, 25 March, QF1461, the early morning 0650 hours SYD to CBR was cancelled.

QF699, an 0815 hours Easter extra from MEL to HBA did not depart until 1001, with arrival expected 97 minutes late at 1107. Later today, the B717-operated QF1503 is not forecast to depart MEL until 1355 instead of its timetabled 1230 for HBA. QF15-7, the 1515 hours mid afternoon MEL to HBA following B717 has been cancelled.

Further north, QF1722 from BNE to HTI, the 0900 hours flight has been delayed in its departure until an expected 0930.

A few thousand kilometres to the west, the 0630 PER to KTA, QF1908 has got the gong.

On Good Friday (25 March 2016), QF73 from SYD to SFO departed exactly an hour late at 1500, with arrival predicted same day at 1005, 35 minutes behind time.

While not necessarily late, VH-EBK (an A332) appears to be on a transfer (ferry?) run (QF6103) from BNE down to ADL, having taken off at 0516.

QF880 from MEL to OOL on Easter Saturday (26 March) was expected to be delayed in its departure from 1000 to 1030, but did not depart in the end until 1050, arriving at the coastal holiday city 47 minutes late at 1142. QF881, the 1145 returning OOL - MEL, was expected to be delayed in its departure until 1215 but had not departed by 1223.

QF2004 from SYD to TMW, the 1220 hours flight, departed 41 minutes late at 1301 with arrival suggested as 1410 hours - 50 minutes behind the timetable.

Down south, the 1220 MEL to SIN (QF35) is delayed to depart at 1330 with anticipated arrival at 1810 hours local time, 45 minutes late.

QF2264, the 1310 SYD to LDH has been cancelled.

QF81, the 1220 SYD - SIN on Easter Sunday (27 March) is expected to depart at 1345 instead of 1220 with arrival at 1750 hours, 65 minutes late. This is due to the 26 March QF130 (2005 PVG to SYD) departing at 2142 and hence on Sunday not being likely to arrive until 1115, 90 minutes late.

The predicted two and a half hour turnaround is longer than the minimum for an A330 which appears to be about 65 - 70 minutes, but perhaps some maintenance is required.

While not necessarily 'late', QF6007 (B744 VH-OJT) took off at 1003. www.flightaware.com suggests that it is heading for ADL.

Dont you get sick of Delays and Cancellations?.:)

I suggest that VH-OJT might be heading to ADL. While flight routes may change, it does not appear to be on a route to MEL or north. It seems to be tracking a heading generally used by SYD-ADL flights, or PER - I think these are a bit further south?. I'm putting my money on a Mil charter. There were some Mil charters yesterday ADL-DRW.

edit: Melburnian1 beat me to it

QFi Has had a shocker.

QF63 delayed 4.5 hours
QF73 delayed 24 hours
QF81 delayed 1.5 hours
QF4 delayed 12 hours

Flyerqf, neither the QF63 or QF73 delays were publicly shown when I earlier posted about the QF81 27 March delay.

QF63 got away from SYD at 1552, four hours and two minutes late on the slightly altered schedule, with arrival predicted as 2020 tonight, three hours and 10 minutes late. In turn, this will delay the Sunday 27 March QF64 from South Africa which has a forecast amended departure of 2215 hours, three hours and five minutes tardy for a SYD Monday 29 March arrival at 1905, also 185 minutes late.

QF81 ended up departing at 1309, an hour and 49 minutes behind time for a forecast 1805 hours SIN arrival, 80 minutes late.

The Sunday 27 March QF73 (1400 hours SYD to SFO) has been altered to depart at 1230 on Monday 28 for a same day 0745 hours arrival instead of Sunday at 0930. QF74 ex SFO at a scheduled time of 2325 hours on Sunday 28 March has simply been cancelled.

I may be missing something but does not the QF74 Monday cancellation leave QF with a B744 'stranded' in SFO as of Monday 29 March?

QF4 is still two hours from departure at 2300 on Saturday evening instead of 1005 with the earliest possible post-curfew arrival of 0600 predicted for Monday 29 March instead of 1735 hours on Sunday late afternoon.

While there may not be any connection and it is good sometimes not to be too cynical, QF appears to have had a 'spare' 744 for what AFF member Quickstatus suggested was a SYD - ADL military charter yet two of its B744 flights today have experienced bad delays (QF63 and QF73.)

The worrying thing is that neither the QF63 or QF73 problems appear to have been known much in advance otherwise one could expect that these would have been publicly shown on the website.

Domestically, QF864, the 1755 SYD - OOL is expected to depart at 1920 this evening (Sunday 27.)

Actually a ADL-DRW mil charter.

OJT positioned as QF6007 then QF1364 ADL-DRW and is currently repositioning back to SYD as QF6008.

This seems as Melburnian1 suggests to be a spare B747 to conclude the Army's Excercise Predator Gallop in SA on March 16-25.

This seems to be inline with AJ's policy to keep the aircraft in the air for as long as possible, and not to use spare aircraft as a contingency/ backup. I suppose it is difficult to predict where the contingency aircraft might be needed. Passengers often have an assumption that an airline could just provide a spare aircraft in case of technical difficulties which is clearly unrealistic.

The company used 3 aircraft for the Military charter according to Qantassource. Bold is the charter, italics is the positioning.
The $$ paid must be worth all the positioning.

EBK (BNE-ADL // ADL-DRW // DRW-BNE)
EBQ (MEL-ADL // ADL-DRW // DRW-ADL // ADL-DRW // DRW-ADL

They will probably cancel tomorrow's QF73.

The last 747 (VH-OEF) to visit The City by the Bay (SFO) arrived there on 25/3 in the morning and then departed for Syd as QF74 that evening arriving to form QF63 which was subsequently cancelled today.

I don't believe there is a RedRoo sitting on the tarmac at SFO. Additionally there was no service to SFO departing today (which I think was planned) which freed up a 747.

I believe the "free" 747 may be OJT which was deployed for the ADL-DRW charter.

Have I missed something?

Tomorrow 28/3 QF73 is scheduled to depart at the usual time. Will be interesting to see if QF73 will be operated by OJT as it is due to be back in bed in SYD at 2130 after its charter sojourn (QF6007,QF1364,QF6008)

The only thing you have missed is that today's QF73 has been delayed until lunchtime tomorrow.

Thanks Flyerqf!!

While it may be posted as delayed then cancelled, Expert flyer suggests that QF73 departing today 28/3 (supposedly the delayed flight) is not exactly packed to the rafters. Cynical me says that the 27/3 QF73 was not exactly full and pax were just moved around and/or punted to the other transpacific flights.

Would be interesting to hear from "delayed" Qf73 pax from yesterday.
