Qantas Delays/Cancellations

AU to LHR via SIN is faster then via DXB.
6-7 hours east coast to SIN + 11-12 hours SIN-LHR vs 13-14 hours to DXB + 6-7 hours to LHR.

Part of the reason for delays around DXB is congestion and ATC issues. The ATC areas in that part of the middle east are small with a number of large busy airports (and thus aircraft in holds).

Actually Singapore holding was becoming a very real issue, having gone from negligible to averaging 30 minutes for some flights.

Singapore-London, by my log, is 14 hours. Getting to Singapore is about 7 hours (from Melbourne). So virtually no difference...even with the holding.

On Monday 14 March, which is a public holiday in Victoria and Tasmania only, QF2104, the 0700 SYD to CFS is expected to depart at 0730 but to be only ten minutes late arriving at 0835. QF1463, the 0730 hours SYD down to CBR will be cancelled.

Two early morning 0630 hours departures from BNE - QF1702 to GLT and QF2448 to MOV - are also cancelled. QF1762 (0900 hours BNE to recently flood affected MKY) is also getting the gong. There must have been a fair old decrease in the numbers carried on the BNE - MOV route as the latter is not exactly enjoying good economic times, with many houses remaining for sale and prices having markedly declined from the heady days of a couple of years ago. These travails are even being commented upon in 'The Australian' on occasion.

katiebell, the stop at DXB is not just for refuelling. With QF's tieup with EK, it is a most important intermediate stop where many passengers change planes to go on (or come in from) European destinations in particular.

There is a degree of subjectivity in any of our preferences as to which airports through which we fly, but SIN, ICN and to some degree HKG are vastly preferable intermediate stops on the way to Europe or for that matter anywhere else. DXB comes across to me (and I have only been there during the hours of darkness) as a third rate copy of SIN (Changi.) On balance, QF's move there has been ill advised (some will disagree with that.).'

I do realise that there is more than refuelling but, if refuelling were not needed it is likely that there would not be a stop and all transfers would be from the final (only) arrival port. For those of us who choose not to fly EK it is a refuelling stop (& most of the time the pax around me are the same people on both sectors).

I think DXB is nowhere near a 3rd rate copy of Changi: I would not rate it that highly in daylight or darkness. I much prefer a far Eastern refuelling stop and try not to fly via DXB. I agree that the EK deal was not wise and nothing I have experienced, despite hoping for good things from the deal, has changed my mind.

One reason why the AY product is quite attractive with an intermediate at SIN,BKK,HKG then HEL before hopping into anywhere in Europe. For some a 2 stop into Europe is not an impediment compared with a 1.0- 1.9 stop in DXB.

On Monday 14 March QF2024 (1045 SYD - ARM) was expected to depart at 1115.but did not actually depart until 1136. It arrived ARM 59 minutes late at 1259.

QF1738, the 1330 hours BNE up to 'Rocky' (ROK) is cancelled.

The 1050 hours SYD to PVG (QF129) A330 departed 49 minutes late but is forecast to regain some time, arriving at an expected 1900 tonight, half an hour late.

UPDATE: QF444 (1530 hours mid afternoon MEL to SYD) was cancelled.

QF476, the 1930 hours MEL arrival ex PER is 39 minutes late so should be at the gate at 2009. VH-EBP is the A332.

The Sunday 13 March QF94 ex LAX departed at 0010 on Monday, an hour and 55 minutes behind time. MEL arrival should be on Tuesday 14 at 0945, an hour and 40 late.

QF93 is expected to depart MEL on Tuesday 14 at 1130, 70 minutes late bearing in mind that the USA has recently had a time change (quite confusing because it is not on the same date that east coast Australia reverts to standard time.) This is why the departure ex MEL is no longer at 1120. LAX arrival is predicted as 55 minutes late at 0730.

The SYD-bound A388 on QF12 departed a bit earlier, at 2351 on Sunday 12, with slated arrival ex LAX as 0830 on Tuesday 14, an even hour late. QF11 on Tuesday should just be able to depart on time (assuming no other problems are detected.)

QF 481 today MEL PER. Pushed back 15 mins late. Sat pushed back on the apron for another 30 mins, then went back to the gate. Reason; didn't load potable water.

At least I'm in J (even old JQ J) thanks to a P1 upgrade.

The Tuesday 15 March 2016 QF460 (1830 hours early evening MEL to SYD) is expected to depart an hour late at 1930. This is due to QF692, the 1745 scheduled arrival in MEL ex ADL not being forecast to be at the gate until 1911. A 1930 hours departure will therefore prove to be overly optimistic.

QF2084, the 1550 hours MEL to often sunny and hot MQL has been delayed in departing until a forecast 1900 hours.

Later tonight, the 1900 MEL to MQL is suggested as departing at 2145 hours for a 2250 late night arrival in lieu of the timetabled 2010 hours.

QF693, the 1640 MEL to ADL departed at 1721 but picked up seven minutes en route to arrive 34 down at 1804.

QF456, the 1715 MEL - SYD and QF2289, the 1910 hours MEL to LST have been cancelled while QF481, the 1745 MEL across the continent to PER is forecast to depart exactly an hour late.

Thank you ReLoad. Nothing beats a man (or woman) reporting in live. Great work!

As far as I can see your flight was formed by the 1642 hours arrival (only two minutes late) of QF772 ex PER that arrived at Melbourne's QF terminal gate 21, which in theory gave sufficient time to form a 1745 hours departure. Is there some other reason apart from the initial failure to load potable water delaying you, ReLoad?

Earlier today (Tuesday 15 March), QF23 from SYD to BKK departed half an hour late at 1025 with arrival forecast as 35 minutes late at 1610 hours. QF129 from SYD to BKK was later, with departure 45 minutes late at 1135 and arrival expected identically late at 1915 tonight. This will mean a late departure for QF130.

QF81 from SYD to SIN departed 43 minutes behind at 1158 with arrival in the Lion City suggested as 35 minutes late at 1705.

QF2022 from SYD to ARM is timetabled to depart at 1210 but did not do so until 1431 this afternoon.

The 1700 hours SYD to MEL, QF453 was cancelled. The 1730 hours SYD across to PER, QF571, departed at 1821 with arrival predicted as 45 minutes late at 2010 hours this evening.

Although QF693 (see post number 2449) was only 34 late into ADL, the returning QF694 (1805 hours ADL to MEL) did not take off until 1925 and should arrive 65 minutes late at 2055. Aircraft is VH-VXT, a B738.

The Tuesday 15 March QF16 (2320 hours from LAX to BNE) departed at 0036 on Wednesday 16. Arrival on Thursday 17 of this B744 flight is forecast for 0715, an hour late.

QF1477, the 1200 SYD to CBR on Wednesday 16 March was cancelled as was QF2022, the simultaneously timed departure for ARM. More problems at Qantaslink or simply low bookings in the middle of the day?

QF117, the 1315 SYD to HKG was airborne late at 1413 with arrival likely at 2025, 45 minutes behind time. The 1530 hours SYD - ABX, QF2213, departed at 1647 for a 61 minute late, 1747 hours arrival time while the 1530 hours SYD - ARM, QF2030 was slightly less affected, departing 63 minutes behind time and arriving 53 late at 1738.

Another Qantaslink flight, QF2042 (1725 hours SYD - DBO) departed at 1912 with projected arrival at 2018 rather than 1835 this evening. The 1955 hours QF2178 departure of QF2178 from SYD to PQQ has become an estimated 2045.

QF1493, the 1735 hours from SYD to CBR departed at 1914 with arrival suggested as 1952, 82 minutes late.

QF2048, the last of the evening ex SYD at a timetabled 1900 hours for DBO has been cancelled.

QF2008 (1900 hours SYD north to TMW) will instead depart at a projected 2000 hours.

QF1578 (1740 hours SYD - MCY) departed 62 minutes behind time. Arrival should be at 1910 hours, 55 minutes late.

QF2 from LHR and DXB (A388 VH-OQG) is about to arrive in SYD on Thursday 17 March at about 0850 hours, two hours and 20 minutes late. Unusually, the flight had departed LHR on Tuesday evening at 2253, two hours and 18 late, and did not regain any time. QF2 normally has a better punctuality record than the highly variable QF10, the MEL-bound ex LHR and DXB A388.

The 0900 hours MEL to CBR, QF814, departed 32 minutes late but should arrive at a suggested 1031, 26 late.

QF1471, the Thursday 17 March 0955 hours SYD to CBR was originally suggested as delayed in departing until 1035 but did so at 1049 with arrival expected at 1145. Meanwhile the following QF1473, the 1045 departure ex SYD left only three minutes late and should be on time into CBR at 1140, showing how much of a lottery these fairly frequent small capacity short distance flights can be. On occasion it can be quicker to take the (admittedly slow but nonetheless comfortable) SYD - CBR train (www.nswtrainlink.info), drive or (not recommended) a bus. As always the latter options depend to a degree on your origin and destination in each city. If origin was Campbelltown and destination Kingston it would hardly be worth it to fly given the unpredictable timekeeping of both major airlines' flights to and from CBR, particularly as winter approaches.

QF1419 from SYD to CBR is predicted to depart half an hour late at 1155. Depending on turnaround times, it is likely that quite a few more SYD - CBR - SYD flights today will be delayed as two aircraft are now behind time. QF1472 is expected to depart CNR at 1207 rather than the timetabled 1120. It is unusual for QF to show a time ending in a '7' as a forecast departure on its website but this may be a case of ATC wanting a particular arrival time in SYD, although 1300 hours is not the busiest time of the day.

QF741, the 1035 SYD to ADL (B738 VH-VXA) departed at 1104 and should be half an hour late into the 'Wine Capital' at 1240 this afternoon.

QF2024 (1045 SYD to ARM) departed at 1131 and should arrive at 1226, 26 minutes late. There has been quite a bit of late running on the Northern Tablelands (NSW) routes lately by QantasLink.

On Thursday 17 March 2016, QF581 from SYD to PER across the continent is badly delayed with its 1030 departure altered to 1310 hours. Arrival is suggested as 1455 instead of 1225. At this stage the aircraft looks to be forming QF594, the 1625 hours PER - BNE so if this remains the case that flight - in theory - should depart on time as 90 minutes is a sufficient time to turnaround the plane.

QF7 from SYD to the east on the long haul to DFW is normally pretty punctual. That is not the case on Thursday 17 March when departure has been delayed from 1405 to an expected 1800 hours. Arrival is suggested as same day at 1710 in lieu of the normal 1335.

The delayed QF581 (see above), A332 VH-EBO is now estimated to arrive PER's gate at 1503, not 1455.

QF582 (1330 hours PER to SYD) is estimated to depart at 1600, meaning a 2240 hours arrival quite close to the 2300 hours SYD curfew rather than the scheduled time of 2040. It is being formed by the late running QF581, a situation on QF's website that has only changed in the last couple of hours as the gate number has altered. It can pay to recheck the website sometimes if one is endeavouring to establish whether a late incoming flight will affect 'yours' out of a locality. Wednesday 16's performance for QF582 in elapsed journey time was better but if Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 were a reliable guide, this afternoon's flight would struggle tom 'make curfew.' However climatic conditions including wind vary so hopefully the flight will get away without further unanticipated delays and be into SYD with quite a margin before 2300 hours, and in any case '2300' is a touchdown time not a gate arrival time for curfew purposes so that builds in a slightly greater buffer.

QF2086 is delayed in departing MEL from 1900 to 1930 tonight on its way to MQL.

QF689 is estimated to depart MEL an hour late at 1640 for ADL. There is no obvious incoming flight that was late.

The Wednesday 16 March QF12 (2230 hours ex LAX for SYD) departed at 2349. On Friday 18 March it should arrive at 0900, 90 minutes late.

The A388 operating QF94 and the B744 on QF95 into MEL (also ex LAX) on Friday morning are both forecast as 40 minutes behind time.

The 1715 hours QF451 from SYD down to MEL was cancelled on Thursday 17 March. QF493 on the same route is running very late: instead of arriving at 2050, it should be in at about 2220 hours, 90 minutes or so late.

On Friday 18 March, QF30 into MEL (ex HKG Thursday night) (A333 VH-QPH) is expected to arrive at 0843, 43 minutes late. Earlier, QF36 from SIN arrived MEL 37 minutes late at 0707.

QF2106, the 0830 hours SYD to CFS is suggested as departing at 0910.

QF2281, the 0905 MEL to LST across Bass Strait has been cancelled.

The longhaul B744-operated QF63 from SYD to JNB was forecast to leave 55 minutes late at 1230 but ended up departing at 1320. Arrival is likely to be 75 minutes behind at 1750, delaying the timetabled 18509 hours QF64 back to SYD on Friday evening South African time.

QF73 (1400 hours SYD to SFO) has been altered to depart at 1500.

QF797 (B738 VH-VZU), the 1310 hours ASP to MEL took off at 1407. It should arrive at about 1637, 52 minutes late.

QF2205 from SYD to ABX on Friday 18 March is delayed in departing from 0820 to an expected 1225.

The 1005 hours SYD to BNE, QF605, is forecast to depart at 1040.

The 1020 MEL to LAX QF93 has been altered to depart at 1205. Arrival in the movie capital is estimated as 0745 hours same day, 70 minutes late.

QF2130, the 1130 MEL to CBR is cancelled while QF2283, the 1135 MEL to LST is delayed until an expected 1210 in departing.

UPDATE: QF453, the 1700 from SYD to MEL (A332 VH-EBC) was airborne at 1750 and is arriving at 1910 hours, 35 minutes late. QF459, the 1800, departed SYD 32 late but should only be 18 minutes late (1953) at MEL.

QF463 and QF467, respectively the 1830 and 1930 hours from SYD to MEL have both been cancelled. QF479, the 1845 hours, is forecast to depart SYD at 1925 while QF465 should be half an hour late departing at 1930 and QF493 os delayed by 55 minutes to 2010 hours from SYD to MEL. There have been reasonably strong winds in MEL (and rain) so perhaps that is a reason why flights are cancelled or delayed.

The Grand Prix is attracting a declining number of visitors (and locals) and losing at least $60 million per annum, but these flights may have some patrons. It would be great if anyone who was 'bumped' could inform AFF members how they are getting to MEL. JQ also has delays and a cancellation from SYD to MEL this evening.

Northbound is no better with QF454 (the 1730 hours ex MEL) an estimated 35 minutes late, QF496 45 minutes late, QF486 (the 1815 hours northbound) 35 minutes behind time and QF460 (the 1830) and QF478 (the 1845 hours) both an estimated 40 late.

QF1509 MEL to HBA has been cancelled tonight as of 2100hrs with a flow on that tomorrow's (19/3) QF1500 HBA to MEL at 0605 is now cancelled.

Regards,
Boof

QF766 ADL-SYD delayed from 17:20 to 18:20 due to SYD storms and only one operational runway.

I still got here in the end :)
