Qantas Delays/Cancellations

QF155 delayed today from 1800 departure to 2330. Totally sucks, since my midnight arrival into AKL is now 0445 with little chance to sleep before work.

Can anyone advise what (if any) compensation Qantas should be expected to offer? They've handed out $20 meal vouchers however that scarcely compensates for the lack of sleep I will now get, my no doubt shabbiness at work tomorrow and the fact I had someone inconvenienced at the other end.

Thanks all

QF12 from LAX-SYD was about an hour late yesterday [apparently due to late arrivals into LAX], missed most of the immediate connections (Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Wagga Wagga, etc) so everyone was rebooked.

QF460 MEL-SYD A330-200 was 1.5 hrs late arriving at the gate at SYD.

Boarding completed and aerobridges withdrawn 30 minutes prior to pushback.

Reasons given were:
Late arriving aircraft
Maintenance issue
Weather in Sydney

I noted that while departing the ramp at MEL from the QF A330 gates that it sat at the intersection and let 3 aircraft go past from the non QF terminals. Maybe ATC wanted to maintain the OTP of the other aircraft as QF460 was already late so whats an extra few minutes??

I'm on QF880 MEL-OOL, sitting on the plane in SYD a warning alarm and light has come on in the coughpit. Bugger only 1% left on the iPhone and on a non refuted 737-800 with no USB ports

The flight diverted to SYD enroute from MEL to OOL. Same aircraft continued on after an hour on the ground at SYD.

QF94 did a splash and dash in BNE on the way home to MEL. Currently enroute to MEL.

QF93 will be ~6 hours late departing.

ATC wouldn't give two hoots about that. Possibly related to wake turbulence though. Get a bunch of little guys away before a bigger one puts a hole in the sequence. Happens a lot with the 380.

6 hours....not much dash in that.

Melbournian might have liked this one. Looking at FR24 aircraft was appreciably late out of LAX, so the crew would have exceeded maximum hours if they'd continued past Brisbane. Looking at the timing, I think they ran it right up to the limit in getting to Brisbane. But, I suspect that by the time it was realised that they would be this late, and so have to land at Brisbane, it would have been too late to get hold of anyone out of either Sydney or Melbourne to do the flight. The last flights to Brisbane would have departed so you couldn't pre-position them, and so would have had to move them out of either place in the morning. Messy, but no easy way around it.

Anyone on QFA10 tonight landing in MEL? I know the weather has messed around with a few flights tonight but noticed it was coming in to land and did a go-around and tried again.

I'm told that there was a very strong tailwind (in the order of 30 plus knots) becoming about 20 knots headwind on the ground. Unless you know it's there, it's very hard to stabilise the aircraft in those conditions.

Makes sense. Looking at the data it seemed to be coming in too quick and dropped altitude really quickly before powering the engines and moving up...wind shear highly likely. Surely made the pilots work hard on that flight.

Terrible weather in SYD today. Lots of delays.

QF23 delayed ~30 minutes due to late arrival. That time keeps getting revised. In F lounge now but my only concern is PG flight with unprotected 2h 20m connection.

The aircraft you are on arrived from HKG at 0900. The weather may be impeding ramp activities but has departed at 1115. 1.25 hrs late. So JohnK should make his connection

Thanks Quickstatus but not that simple. We departed 1h 25m late and arrived 1h 15m late but another 15m waiting for allocated gate. There was no way I was going through immigration, collect bags and checkin for flight in 10 minutes.

CSM and CSS took it upon themselves to assist and I was offered same flight with transit but no bags until next flight or rebooked on 9:35pm flight free of charge. What a fantastic result.

Someone waiting for me and we walked for ages to transfer desk and got boarding pass and luggage tags sorted and at same time the PG flight delayed 50 minutes. Hahaha. Still not enough time to run out and get bags and comeback. There were another 6-7 on QF codeshare but they were nowhere near us at any point. Gave her 200 baht for helping and she reluctantly took it as I insisted. Perhaps I should have given her 500 baht.

Oh and I was put in 1K for last 1h 30m of flight. I am stoked. sll because I am Platinum. This why I keep flying Qantas. Go out of their way to assist.

I will spam s number of threads with minor details. Thanks Qantas. Greatfully appreciated.
