Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Also on Monday 7 November, QF93, the 1115 MEL - LAX, departed at 1150, 35 down, but is expected to be 66 minutes delayed into LAX with same day arrival at 0730 hours.

The B744 second flight - which is not operating for much longer - (QF95) has been delayed from 1345 to a forecast 1415 hours in its pushback.

QF1503, operated by what can sometimes be the most unpunctual B717s, is the 1230 hours from MEL down to HBA. It was airborne at 1350 with arrival of VH-YQY suggested as 1455, 70 minutes tardy.

B738 VH-VZB on QF881, the 1140 OOL - MEL did not take off until 1236 so arrival is likely 43 minutes behind schedule at 1538.

Sunday 6 November 2016's LAX - SYD A388 on QF12 departed 81 minutes behind schedule at 2351 hours. SYD arrival is expected to be 40 late at 0910 hours.

On Wednesday 9 November 2016, QF407, the 0715 hours from SYD to MEL was cancelled, as was QF461, the 0845 hours departure. QF2262, the 1100 late morning from SYD to LDH as well as the following, scheduled 1140 hours departure, QF2260 also got the boot. This suggests 'weather' at or adjacent to LDH.

The 1225 hours SYD to MNL did not depart until 1703 hours, with arrival predicted as 2150 tonight in lieu of the timetabled 1735. The scheduled 1900 hours return working, QF20 will be unable to depart until at least 2300 which should mean SYD arrival on Thursday 10 at around 0945.

QF1 from SYD to LHR departed 48 minutes late at 1733 but DXB arrival should only be 20 minutes behind at a predicted 0100 for the intermediate stop.

The 1735 hours from BNE down to SYD, QF551 (B738 VH-XZF) took off at 1832; arrival should be at 2100 hours, 50 minutes late.

QF743 (1815 hours from SYD across to ADL, B738 VH-VXN) was in the sky at 1934 with a 72 minute delayed arrival predicted - 2102 hours.

QF479 (1845 hours from SYD down to MEL) took off at 1948 so arrival of B738 VH-VYH should be at 2045 hours, 35 minutes late.

QF1494 (Q400 VH-QOU), the 2000 hours short hop from CBR up to SYD was airborne at 2042; arrival should be at approximately 2132 hours, 37 minutes tardy.

The 1930 hours CBR - BNE, QF1554 (B717 VH-NXI) took off at 2032 for a predicted 2102 hours, 47 minutes late arrival.

The 2010 hours from SYD up to DRW, QF846 (B738 VH-VZP) took off at 2104 this evening. It should be at the terminal gate at 2355 hours, 45 minutes behind time.

QF601 5:00am BNE-MEL and QF1543 5:10am BNE-CBR cancelled this morning. If you are lucky next flight in ~1 hour otherwise next flight to CBR in ~3h35m.

Appears as though I have dodged bullet with QF501 connecting to QF23. I despise early morning international connections. Qantas should offer overnight connections (they cost exactly the same) instead of wasting space with the Jetstar connections.

Also cancelled QF1464 CBR-SYD, QF2009 TMW-SYD, QF2207 SYD-ABX and QF417 SYD-MEL.

A few aircraft out of position? Many delays including QF7940 to LDH. Announcement offering passengers food voucher.

Adding to the cancellations, John K, on Thursday 10 November is QF500, the 0600 'first of the morning' from SYD to BNE. QF409 (0700 hours from SYD down to MEL) has additionally got the gong, as has QF417 (0830 hours SYD to MEL). QF1599, the early morning 0600 hours from BNE down to ADL has also been cancelled on Thursday, as has QF1780, the 0900 hours from BNE up to ISA. QF2356 (1145 hours BNE - ROK) is also inoperable.

QF19 from SYD to MNL on Wednesday 9 arrived at 2149 but QF20 did not depart until 2351, so on Thursday 10 the latter should arrive back in SYD 270 minutes late at 1035 hours.

The 0700 SYD to PQQ, QF2262, did not push back until 0813 on Thursday morning, with arrival predicted as 0858 hours, 48 minutes tardy.

QF7940 - is this a passenger flight? - from SYD to LDH, the 0700 is showing as delayed until 0800 but has yet to do so as at 0830.

QF2012 from SYD to TMW, the 0700, was cancelled, probably as a result of JohnK's Wednesday observation above about QF2009 ex TMW not running.

The 0810 hours from SYD down to 'Twin Cities' ABX, QF2205, has been delayed until an expected 0950 hours in its departure, meaning likely arrival at 1105 instead of 0920 hours while QF2221, the identically timed departure to WGA should instead depart at 0855 this morning. QF2207, the 1010 SYD - ABX has been cancelled: perhaps some passengers will instead be conveyed on the delayed QF2205.

The 0900 MEL - SYD, QF418, should instead push back at 1010. QF420, the 0930 hours following departure is yet another flight to have got the flick.

QF1599, the early morning 0600 hours from BNE down to ADL has also been cancelled on Thursday
Looking at departure boards early this morning I was under the impression QF1599 was operating BNE-CBR-ADL unless it has since been cancelled. Next CBR service was ~3:35 later. Lot of people running to QF501 late in boarding and they looked like they were connecting to CBR via SYD.

What a mess.

A388 VH-OQJ on the Thursday 10 November QF93 (1115 MEL - LAX) pushed back at 1143 and took off at 1212 with arrival set for 0715 same day, 40 minutes behind schedule.

Also on Thursday 10 November, A332 VH-EBQ on QF481, the 1735 from MEL across to PER took off at 1816. It should arrive at roughly 1910 tonight, half an hour behind.

B738 VH-VYF on the 1420 hours mid afternoon from DRW down to PER (QF793) was airborne at a quite late 1625 hours; arrival at 1832 hours, an hour and 52 minutes late is the suggestion.

QF446 (1600 hours MEL - SYD) departed half an hour late at 1630, arriving 16 minutes behind time at 1741.

Friday 11 November sees QF409, the 0700 hours from SYD down to MEL (A332 VH-EBG) not having taken off until 0855, with arrival suggested as 1030 hours instead of 0835 (115 late). As a result, QF420, the 0930 hours from MEL up to SYD is expected to depart at about 1120, 110 minutes behind schedule.

QF403, the 0645 hours SYD - MEL and QF407, the 0715 hours on the same route and in the same direction have both been cancelled, as has QF1529, the 0950 hours MEL arrival ex CBR. QF1461, the early start 0600 hours SYD - CBR also got the flick.

QF94 from LAX to MEL (A388 VH-OQC) is forecast to arrive at about 1026, 86 minutes behind, delaying QF93 back to LAX ex MEL by a similar amount of time.

QF94's SYD-bound colleague, A388 VH-OQA is 90 minutes late into SYD ex LA and should be at its SYD terminal gate at approximately 1000.

The BNE to DRW sector is being operated empty by VH-VZD, a B738 that took off on 11 November at 0754. Is this so the aircraft can receive some refurbishment or workshop attention in BNE?

QF6, the overnight from SIN to SYD should arrive about 34 minutes behind at 1124. VH-EBF is the A332.

Continuing from the previous post's first paragraph, on 11 November QF420, the 0930 hours MEL - SYD (A332 VH-EBG) took off at 1129. Arrival should be at 1230, 95 minutes behind time. It looks to be forming QF427, the 1100 to MEL that has been retimed to depart at 1310 hours.

On occasion both QF and VA have their A332s do a single SYD - MEL or vice versa trip, then proceed to PER but this aircraft EBG looks to be on SYD - MEL - SYD rotations for much of the day. If so, then quite a few more flights will be late. It is difficult to cancel flights on most Friday afternoons due to it being a peak travel period. Compare it to a Tuesday or Wednesday, when unless there is a special event on in one of the cities or it is school holidays, load factors will not nearly be as high (or alternatively fewer flights, or B738s sometimes instead of the occasional A332, may operate).

QF1527, the 1010 mid morning SYD short hop down to CBR departed exactly an hour late and then was airborne at 1125. Arrival of B717 VH-YQX should be at 1206, 56 minutes late.

Any idea of the OTP of QF2825 (Qantaslink HTI-BNE)?

docjames, as always one can look these up on the FlightStats website under 'tools.'

QF2825 from HTI to BNE has a rating of 4.2 out of 5 which is very good. The 'average delay' is said to be 11 minutes, with 34 of the last 40 flights 'on time', which does not mean 'to the minute' but '15 minutes or less late arriving at destination.'

Six of the flights have been 'late', 'very late' or 'excessive(ly late)', terms that FlightStats does not appear to define but we can place a fairly safe bet that 'excessive' would mean delays of 'over an hour' (and can include outliers such as an eight hour delay due to fog or no available crew, or any one of many other reasons.)

It would be good to have a sample showing flights for this month last year as that would be similar (hopefully) climatic conditions to when you are travelling, but FlightStats does not have this feature.

In further on Friday 11 November, QF41 (1350 hours SYD - CGK, A332 VH-EBL) took off at 1446 with arrival due at 1804, 34 minutes behind time.

QF619 and VA326 are identically timed ex BNE at 1155 for MEL, but today QF passengers have fared worse with B738 VH-VXK taking off at 1225 for likely arrival at 1607, 52 minutes behind schedule.

Delay on QF71 PER-SIN today due to a fault with the cabin lighting. Apparently replaced part and then reprogrammed the lights. Departing about 1PM instead of the scheduled 12:15PM.

EDIT: and now we had a failed engine start. Taxi back to gate to investigate.

Also on Friday 11 November, QF621 (B738 VH-VYB, the 1255 BNE - MEL) took off at 1327 hours. It should be about 35 minutes tardy at its MEL terminal gate with arrival at 1650 this afternoon.

QF703 from CNS down to MEL, the scheduled 1200 'high noon' departure that took off at 1220 is in a 'hold' east of Bendigo (Vic) and so should arrive at roughly 1657 hours, 37 minutes late.

A332 VH-EBG has featured in a couple of other posts today (11 November) for having been late: that has not altered this afternoon with the 1515 hours MEL - SYD QF436 becoming airborne at 1619, and arrival suggested as 50 minutes late at 1730.

The 1410 hours departure from ADL to MEL, QF694, was airborne at 1449. Hence MEL arrival should be 42 minutes tardy at 1637.

In at least the third cancellation today on Australia's busiest 9and the world's fourth busiest) air route, SYD - MEL, the southbound QF449 (1630 hours scheduled departure) has received the order of the boot, as has the 1715 hours departure, QF451.

QF71 finally departing after fixing a sticky starter valve for the air to start engine no 2. 1h45m late departure though more fuel loaded on expecting to gain about 30mins flying faster and lower.

Also on Friday 11 November, QF446 (1600 hours from MEL up to SYD, B738 VH-VXS) took off at 1653; arrival at 1758, 33 minutes late, is expected.

The earlier timetabled 1545 hours departure on the same route, QF470 (B738 VH-XZP) took off at 1628 hours. Arrival is predicted for 1741, 31 minutes behind time.

QF2034, the 1850 hours early evening SYD - ARM has been delayed to a predicted 1820 hours in its departure.

Longhaul QF64, the 1850 hours Thursday 10 November from JNB to SYD did not take off until 2316 (with B744 VH-OJU). Arrival is shortly as I write at 1905, 210 minutes past the timetabled at gate time of 1535 hours.

The 1730 hours peak period SYD - MEL (QF455, A332 VH-EBB) was airborne at 1817 with a 36 minute late arrival suggested at 1941 hours.
