Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Sunday 16 July's QF3 arrived HNL at 1055 hours, 99 minutes tardy with the return flight QF4 pushing back from the USA state's major airport at 1234, 94 minutes behind schedule. Monday 17 July arrival in SYD was also 94 late at 1934, resulting in another delay to QF3 that is suggested as departing at 2125, 115 minutes past the allotted. VH-QPB is the aircraft shuttling up and down.

Earlier on 17 July, QF63 from SYD departed 27 minutes late at 1117 with arrival suggested as 1730, half an hour behind.

UPDATE: QF3 departed SYD at 2129 hours.

QF743 (1820 hours SYD across to ADL that was not skywards until 2019, B738 VH-VXO) is forecast to arrive at 2146 hours tonight, 106 minutes late.

VH-OJT is in HNL on a charter I wonder when it comes back. That should add a bit of slack into the system whenever it does

Should be on its way back now, it was one of the aircraft used for the FCTG Global Ball charter. NZ also had a jet running AKL-BNE-HNL-AKL AKL-HNL-BNE-AKL on charter. Last year there were 3x QF A330s running from BNE/SYD/MEL-SIN around this time and next year it'll be an EY A380 doing the run to TXL, you can check out the post on the AVMIN Instagram page.

Some fog had been predicted in BNE but as at 0830 departures mostly appeared to be punctual, although the same was not true for some arrivals.

Tuesday 18 July sees QF1771 (0630 hours MKY - BNE, B717 VH-YQS) having not taken off until 0728. It should arrive at 0846 hours, 51 minutes behind schedule.

QF2349 (0645 hours ROK down to BNE that was in the sky at 0740 with Q400 VH-QON) is predicted to be at its designated tarmac spot at 0848 hours, 53 minutes behind the eight ball.

The 0630 hours SYD - BNE QF502 did not take off until 0741 hours so B738 VH-XZA is forecast to arrive at around 0856 hours, 56 minutes late. The following QF526, the 0645 ex SYD (VH-VXA) should arrive in BNE at around 0920 hours, 65 late. QF504, the 0700 hours SYD - BNE northbound (VH-VZR, also as normal a B738) was in the sky at 0800 hours with arrival anticipated at 0918 hours, 48 minutes behind schedule.

The LAX - BNE QF16 (B744 VH-OEB) is later than had been predicted last night, with an 0851 arrival suggested (161 minutes late), meaning a delayed start to the day for the 1020 hours QF15 from BNE to LAX.

The GLT down to BNE QF2331 (the 0645v hours that was airborne at 0802) looks to be 63 minutes late with an 0858 hours arrival anticipated.

QF130, the overnight from PVG down to SYD is arriving at 0913 hours, 43 minutes tardy with A333 VH-QPE.

Long distance flight QF94 from LAX to MEL is also even later than had been suggested with A388 VH-OQE likely to arrive on 18 July at 0928 hours, 152 minutes late, which will mean a more than two hour late departure for QF93, the scheduled 0915 hours MEL - LAX.

QF23 from SYD to BKK is becoming one of QFi's least punctual mid distance Asian flights, with expected departure on Tuesday 18 July delayed from the timetabled 0950 hours by 50 minutes. Arrival should be 35 late at 1715 hours.

The 22 hours or so delayed QF27 from Sunday 16 arrived at SCL at 0940 hours on Monday 17, but perhaps due to crew rest minimum requirements of which AFFer Flyerqf spoke, the return QF28 departed at 1328 on Monday 17, 24 hours late for a suggested arrival in SYD on Tuesday 18 at 1755 hours, 24 hours 15 minutes late.

QF25's overnight delayed departure until 1330 today from SYD will mean HND arrival at 2205 or so tonight instead of 0515 hours. The HND - SYD QF26 is expected to depart 90 minutes late at 2330 tonight with Wednesday 19 July arrival predicted as 0935 hours, 70 minutes late.

Monday 17 July's QF11 pushed back in LAX at 0900 hours, 40 late but arrived JFK at 1821, 101 minutes late. This loss of time was again due to summer thunderstorms with the 'traffic management system' advised as operating, a nice way of stating 'expect delays.' The returning QF12 is predicted to depart JFK at 1955 hours, 105 late and arrive LAX at 2200 hours, an hour behind schedule.

QF648, the 2350 hours PER- MEL Monday 17 July redeye did not take off until 0606 on Tuesday 18 (A332 VH-EBJ) so arrival is expected at 1126 instead of 0520 hours. That would have been an uncomfortable wait, lounge or not.

QF485, the 0905 hours MEL - PER is expected to depart 140 minutes late at 1125 while QF405 on the same route should depart half an hour late at 1205.

The 0840 hours SYD - ADL, QF739 (B738 VH-XZB) took off at 0926 with arrival at 1050, half an hour behind.

UPDATE: QF15 from BNE to LAX has been further delayed to depart at an expected 1140, 80 minutes late with arrival supposedly at 0720 hours, also 80 late.

The MEL - LAX QF93 was to depart 130 minutes tardy at 1125 hours but by 1135 had yet to do so. LAX arrival is highly likely to be two and a half hours late the way things are going.

Adding to the above, QF93 on 18 July departed at 1156, 161 minutes late; LAX same day arrival is predicted at 0905, 150 minutes delayed.

QF15 departed 86 minutes tardy at 1146 from BNE. LAX arrival should be at 0725 hours, 85 minutes behind schedule. Once again, the transcontinental USA leg (JFK - LAX) of QF11 will be delayed.

The TransPacific QF LAX routes to and from the three major Australian east coast cities have become poor performers as far as timekeeping goes.

Also on Tuesday 18 July, QF839 (lunchtime 1225 hours DRW - MEL that took off at 1332, B738 VH-VXD) looks to be pulling in to its allocated airport gate at 1805, an hour behind schedule. This looks to be delaying QF448 (1800 hours from MEL north to SYD) until an expected 1830 hours departure, although 1835 to 1840 in an off blocks time would be more realistic.

QF1535, the 1425 hours mid afternoon arrival in MEL ex CBR was cancelled, as is QF449 (1630 hours SYD down to MEL.) QF440 and QF448 (1430 and 1645 hours MEL up to SYD) also received the boot.

QF839 is between DRW and MEL, QF338 isn't operated by QF

Monday 17's transcontinental USA JFK - LAX QF12 did a little better than predicted above, arrivng at 2147 hours. QF12 (not the same aircraft) departed the movie city at 0012 hours on Tuesday 18 July (102 minutes late) with Wednesday 19 arrival predicted as 0750 hours, 90 minutes tardy in SYD.

'The 16' commenced pushing back in LAX 99 minutes late at 0039 hours this morning; BNE arrival on Wednesday 19 should be at around 0720 hours, 70 minutes late.

QF338 is a SGN-MEL codeshare operated by VN781. :)

QF1-199 International, odd outbound, even inbound
QF200-399 International, codeshare
QF400-1399 Domestic, mainline
QF1400-2999 Domestic, Qantas Link
QF3000+ codeshare, charter, ferry, cargo, etc
:)

The overnight delayed QF25 did not commence pushing back in SYD until 1409 on Tuesday 18 July, so arrival at HND is predicted to be 2230 hours instead of the timetabled 0515. Although tonight's QF26 is still displaying as a 2330 hours departure, this is optimistic: a better guess would be about 2345 - 55 (the schedule is 2200 hours.)

Although Monday 17 July's QF2 departed LHR a minute early at 2134 hours and on Tuesday 18 arrived DXB at 0719, 11 minutes ahead of time, it did not depart there until 1229 hours, 194 minutes tardy. On Wednesday 19 it is expected to arrive SYD 185 minutes late at 0815 hours.

If FR24 is correct, there may have been an aircraft swap here, with A388 VH-OQI operating QF2 from LHR tom DXB and then A388 VH-OQK taking over for the run to Sydney, which would explain the long delay. This would be coughbersome as freight would have to be transferred and presumably catering altered to go into a different aircraft.

Meanwhile VH-OQK had come off QF9 ex MEL that on 18 July had arrived at DXB at about 0733, around half an hour late, and VH-OQI returned from DXB to LHR on QF9, departing late at 1027 hours and becoming airborne at 1049 for a suggested 45 minute late arrival at LHR at 1455 that in the circumstances is quite creditable.

Confirmation that this aircraft swap occurred and is not a case of FR24 recording the fine detail incorrectly would be appreciated. I don't recall having observed this in recent months. It would be something any airline would try to minimise as it adds complexity, and that often means increased costs.

QF76 is delayed 6 hours and QF27 is delayed 4.5 hours

The QF website suggests that Monday 17 July's scheduled 2130 hours QF76 from YVR down to SYD has been amended to depart at the same time on Tuesday 18, 24 hours late. Arrival is predicted at 0520 hours on Thursday 20 July rather than the timetabled 0535 on Wednesday 19.

This is most likely due to previous late operation of QF75 meaning that flight crew would receive insufficient mandated hotel rest to run the QF76 on time. The other consideration would be the SYD curfew: even if the crew were ready say five hours earlier, the aircraft would not 'make curfew' due to it commencing nightly for passenger aircraft at 2300 hours. The flight ex YVR has one of the few approvals for landing in SYD during the northern summer (Australian winter) between 0500 and 0559 hours: at present, QF has the lion's share of this tiny number, and BA and SQ have the other two.

The Tuesday 18 July QF2289 (1905 hours MEL - LST) was cancelled.

QF452 (1700 hours MEL - SYD) did not depart until about 1950.

QF30 departed HKG 13 late at 2023 hours on Tuesday 18 but Wednesday 19 arrival is not forecast until 0825 hours, 45 minutes tardy.

The delayed QF26 from HND down to SYD did not depart until 0001 hours this morning (Wednesday 19 July) so arrival is predicted for 1015 hours, 110 minutes late.

QF24 from BKK should arrive in SYD at 0733, 63 late. The pVG - SYD QF130 is a predicted 31 late with an 0910 hours arrival.

Tuesday 18 July's QF27 that departed SYD at 1702 (272 minutes late) arrived SCL at 1526, 256 minutes behind schedule.

The 2000 hours QF98 on Tuesday 18 from HKG down to BNE was off its blocks at 2108 hours so Wednesday 19 arrival is forecast for 0829 hours, 104 minutes tardy.

A333 VH-QPH was displaying last night as only 13 minutes late in pushing back in HKG, but this has turned into an expected arrival at 0922 hours this morning in MEL, 102 minutes late.

QF128 from HKG to SYD (A380 VH-OQC) is also badly late with its normal 0710 hours arrival becoming a predicted 0905 hours, 115 minutes behind the timetable. The following flight, QF118 (A333 Vh-QPF) is also delayed with arrival suggested at 0943 hours, 88 minutes behind the allotted. Was there adverse weather in HKG last night?

The redeye from PER up to BNE, QF652 (A332 VH-EBK) is the 2305 hours Tuesday 18 that took off at an uncomfortable 0235 hours on Wednesday 19, with BNE arrival likely at 0829 hours, 184 minutes later than the timetabled 0525 hours. In consequence, QF589, the 0820 hours BNE - PER is showing as an 0905 hours departure but this is probably another case of the QFd website being a little optimistic as it would be unusual to turn around an A332 in 36 minutes. A departure of any time after 0915 or 0920 may be more realistic.

Adding to Wednesday 19 July forecast delays, QF129 from SYD to PVG is predicted to depart 85 minutes late at 1100 with Shanghai arrival at 1935 hours, 65 late, meaning QF124 will be delayed in its departure tonight for the flight back to SYD.

Once again the MEL - LAX QF93 is late with departure anticipated an hour tardy at 1015.

Tuesday 18 July's QF11 departed LAX 90 minutes behind at 0950 hours, arriving 74 minutes late at 1754. QF12 from JFK on the return is expected to depart an hour late at 1910.

In further on Wednesday 19 July, QF625, the 1455 hours mid afternoon BNE - MEL that was airborne only about five minutes late at 1513 (B738 VH-VXK) should arrive at 1752, 32 minutes late.

Now out to 13:35.

It did not push back until 1355; HKG arrival has become an estimated 2105 hours this evening, 85 minutes late.

QF93 departed MEL at 1034, 79 minutes behind schedule for a suggested LAX arrival (same day) at 0805, 90 minutes late.

Due to tardy arrival of inbound aircraft, QF29 was unable to depart from MEL until 1159, 99 minutes past the allotted; its arrival in HKG should be at 1920 hours, 80 minutes delayed.

QF129 from SYD to PVG (A333 VH-QPF) has endured a most severe delay with its 0935 hours scheduled pushing back becoming 1647 this afternoon, 432 minutes late. Anticipated Shanghai arrival is 0135 hours on Thursday 20 July, 425 minutes tardy. This means the returning QF130 will be unable to depart until about 0300 - the QF website is again optimistic, quoting '0240 hours' - with a suggested SYD arrival at 1525 hours mid afternoon tomorrow, 415 minutes late. There may have been a problem with another A333 as QF129 was formed this morning in SYD by the arriving QF118 ex HKG that did not arrive until about 0950 hours, 95 minutes behind the timetable and notably after QF129 was due off blocks had it been on time.

B744 VH-OEJ on QF27, the 1230 hours long haul from SYD to SCL did not depart until 1628 this afternoon, 238 minutes behind time. Arrival in Chile is estimated as 1435 hours, 205 minutes late. Strangely QF28 on Wednesday remains showing as 'on time' ex SCL but surely this must become a 1625 or so departure for a Thursday 20 July arrival back in SYD around 2100 instead of the scheduled 1740 hours.

QF7 departed SYD 42 late at 1312 this afternoon; same day arrival after the very lengthy flight in DFW should be at 1400 hours, an hour late.

QF107 (1225 hours SYD up to PKK) departed 47 minutes late (also at 1312) with its amended, likely 2255 hours arrival to be 40 late. QF108 ex PEK (for the flight back to SYD) is timetabled to depart at 2345 so it will be at least 20 minutes tardy departing tonight.

On Tuesday 18 July, QF12 departed JFK 75 minutes late at 1925, arriving LAX 82 late at 2222 hours. The A388 operating the second sector then left LAX at 2357, 87 minutes tardy with Thursday 20 July SYD arrival estimated as 0724 hours, 64 minutes behind. The MEL-bound QF94 pushed back in LAX at 2331, 81 minutes past the expected with Thursday 20 arrival predicted for 0815 hours, 80 minutes late, meaning yet another delayed departure for QF93, this time on 20 July.

QF16 is expected to depart LAX at 0030 hours on Wednesday 19 (70 minut6es late) with Thursday 20 arrival in BNE suggested as 0725 hours, 75 minutes late. In theory this should not delay QF15 from BNE to LAX as it is allowed a much greater margin to 'reverse' for its flight back to LAX, the schedule stating a 1020 hours departure.
