I wonder how much EK2666 is costing QF?
It would have to be well north of A$600,000 given the presumed need to return empty to DXB. Fuel, cost of the aircraft for at least two days including a profit margin for EK since although the two groups are partners, neither are altruists, crew, catering (bearing in mind catering may have been thrown out when QF2D had to return to DXB), hotel accommodation and meals for stranded passengers.
In 2015, one estimate put the cost of operating an Airbus A380 at an average of US$27,500 per hour. I didn't look at what fuel prices were then (perhaps higher than July 2017.)
Chickenfeed in overall QF revenue terms but the cost of all these longhaul delays over a year, bearing in mind there are many (although not all as serious as this one) must add up to many, many millions of dollars.
Regarding this, what sort of margin does one airline work on when it hires a plane to another, such as this EK to QF example, or the longer duration recently inked agreement between TT and Alliance Airlines (QQ?)
In further on Thursday 27 July, QF777 (1450 hours mid afternoon MEL - PER that was airborne at 1548 with A332 VH-EBK) should arrive at 1741 hours, 41 late.
On Wednesday 26, QF28 departed SCL 66 minutes late at 1436, so Thursday 27 arrival is suggested as 1854, 74 late. This B744 is forming QF25, the 2045 hours from SYD to HND so that should just be able to depart on time.
QF549 (B738 VH-VXS, the 1805 BNE down to SYD that was not in the sky until 1947 hours) should arrive at 2010 hours, half an hour late.
The 1700 hours BNE down to MEL took off at 1803 with B738 VH-VYL, so its forecast 2013 hours arrival will be 48 late.
