Qantas Delays/Cancellations

B744 VH-OJM departed at 1314 hours on Sunday 30 July on QF73, the 1300 hours SYD - SFO, its last hurrah. It was in the queue for takeoff behind the delayed QF27 (1230 hours SYD - SCL), B744 VH-OEJ that was airborne at 1334.

OJM final SYD take off from 34L was at 1339, after a long taxi.

Unfortunately if the QF website is correct, ckck, it's a lot more than '30-40 minutes' in further delays for QF29.

It is displaying as a 1900 hours departure with HKG arrival suggested as 0230 hours on Monday 31 July, 510 minutes late.

If this is correct, you may well have to soon alight.

Enjoy your 0400 hours (0600 AEST) arrival at an hotel!

Tonight's QF128 won't be an 0010 hours Monday 31 July departure from HKG as Flyerqf advised. It will become more like an 0430 hours pushback, a most unpleasant time to depart from any airport, railway station or bus terminal.

Thank you for the update. I haven't heard anything about a 1900 hours departure but it is good to know. Ok a Captains announcement right now. He is telling us that we have to alight now and reboard later.

QF814 MEL-CBR departed 8.42am meant to be 8.30am was delayed this morning as catering was delivered to a different plane ( as advised by cabin crew), luckily fast flight time gave almost on time arrival but not catering, I guess for a 37 minute flight OK but in Business some food would have been good. We were told vouchers would be available on arrival but really I could be bothered.

Also on Sunday 30 July, QF642 (A332 VH-EBF, the 0945 hours PER - SYD that took off at 1110) should arrive at 1637, 42 late.

QF128 is now showing as a 0430 departure.

Flyerqf, with QF128 not expected to arrive in SYD tomorrow (Monday 31 July) until 1505 in the afternoon instead of 0710 hours in the morning, does that mean a late departure for either QF127 (1000 hours SYD - HKG), QF63 (1050 hours SYD - JNB) or QF73 (1300 hours SYD - SFO)?

In the morning, QF26 comes in from HND to SYD, and QF74 from SFO.

VH-OEB isn't scheduled tomorrow, it's a spare. So rest of schedule shouldn't be impacted.

In further on Sunday evening 30 July 2017, QF453 (1700 hours SYD down to MEL that took off at 1819 with A332 VH-EBF) should pull in at 1941 hours, 66 late.

QF29 from MEL to HKG departed at 1826, 486 minutes late, but did not have a quick takeoff, as this only occurred at 1857.

The 1255 hours PER across to ADL, QF592 was badly delayed and became airborne at 1602. B738 VH-VZO should arrive at 2000 hours, 165 minutes past the allotted. It had arrived in PER as QF771 at about 1422, 12 minutes late so it appears that another aircraft had failed.

A388 VH-OQJ on QF10 from DXB to MEL was airborne on 30 July at 0316 hours against its scheduled 0135 hours pushback, so arrival tonight will be at roughly 2301 hours, 126 minutes late, meaning for the late night 2255 hours timetabled QF9 from MEL back to DXB and on to LHR a departure from Australia at around the 0045 hours mark, 110 minutes tardy. With a clear run and reduction in the time spent on the ground in the Middle East, a fair but of such a deficit has been reduced on some previous flights, so arrival in LHR may be less than 80 minutes late if all goes well.

On Monday 31 July, the ex-LAX QF16 should arrive in BNE at 0641 hours, 31 minutes behind schedule.

Monday 31 July has seen QF408 (0700 hours peak time MEL - SYD) cancelled.

TransTasman QF162 (B738 ZK-ZQA, the 0625 hours WLG - SYD that was airborne at 0710) looks to be arriving at 0852 hours, 42 late while A332 VH-EBS on QF140, the 0655 hours AKL - SYD that did not take off until 0751 is suggested as 50 late with an arrival of 0920 hours.

The extremely badly delayed QF128 from HKG to SYD (due to the above noted late arrival of QF29) should arrive SYD at 1516 this afternoon.

Ferry flight or special QF6127 (A332 VH-EBN) should take off from MEL at about 0852.

Chasing some advice. I'm booked on QF2285 (15.30, MEL -LST) on Wednesday afternoon. It's a tight day for me as I have a morning's work plus a 3.5 hour drive prior to the flight. All possible, but I'm hearing recommendations to check in two hours prior which isn't possible! I'm thinking status may help get me through but I wondering what others are experiencing at Melbourne domestic?

Reccomendations to check in early are just that. Checkin closing times for flights domestic QF400 and above AFAIK has not changed and does not close until 15 min prior to departure if no checked luggage or 30 min with checked luggage. Assuming checkin by 1500 is not peak travel time yet.

Are you SG or above? If so then you should be able to use the priority security - only if they police it and divert the others.

However my philosophy is always: checkin early and be bored at the airport is better than checkin late and be scared s888888 that you may miss the flight.

Totally agree with your philosophy. I seriously dislike long drives with a flight at the end of them, but sometimes it's unavoidable. Thanks for the advice. Yes I'm WP (I forgot the AFF verified status has died) so should be able to use priority security. If this sort of thing is going to happen often, priority security may well feature much higher in the list of perks!

QF gives a different meaning to the word priority and its not necessarily in favour of status.

Priority security - hardly ever policed
Priority boarding - hardly ever policed
Priority luggage - they give you a special coloured tag to make you feel important.

Fair comment! Mind you, if there are going to be big delays due to extra security screening, policing may become much more necessary. At the moment I suspect they reckon most people are honest and it's simply not worth the trouble harassing those who aren't. I've certainly gone through the priority security lane behind someone carrying a boarding pass clearly showing they were bronze.

Hopefully they will enforce it this time at least.
How are you going to play it?. If cutting it fine how are you going to wrangle a free transfer to QF5739?
If indeed on the day the queues are longer maybe you will get a no questions asked flight change/

Melburnian1, I am having trouble finding delays over an hour for QF27, perhaps you can have a look through your notes (I am trying to find which aircraft the OP is referring to here)

If they think an older age leads to greater delays, perhaps they should look here ;)
