Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Although the Thursday 22 March 2018 QF12 arrived in LAX at 2055, bang on time, the connecting (different aircraft) QF12 to SYD did not push back until 0004 hours on Friday 23, 94 minutes tardy. Saturday 24 arrival should be at 0940, 130 minutes late.

QF94 should arrive at about 0902 hours, 62 minutes late. This will delay the 1015 hours QF93 ex MEL to LAX.

QF96 (B789 VH-ZNC) departed LAX on Friday at 0046, 71 late so MEL arrival today (Saturday) should be at 1102 hours, 112 minutes behind time. VH-ZNB is the B789.

'The 93' pushed back 52 minutes tardy at 2257 for a projected Saturday at gate arrival of 0850, 50 late.

BNE-bound QF16, the B744, departed LAX 45 late at 0005 on Friday with Saturday arrival suggested as 0735, 80 minutes behind the eight ball.

On Friday 23, B789 VH-ZND was meant to operate QF462, the 1900 hours MEL up to SYD but this was cancelled.

It's not clear which of the above three B789s will operate the inaugural QF9 MEL - PER - LHR.

Why will a late QF12 delay QF93?
I think there is a line about 94 being delayed as well which is missing. 94 should arrive just after 9am this morning but as usual forms the 93. Currently at 0855 on final just overhead of Maribyrnong

But ZNC was alluded to by M1 as being late but actually operating 94. ZNB is operating 96.

ZNA is in LAX, and 93 will be a 789 so ZNC can’t do the inaugural to LHR unless the airline wants to wait for ZNB which is not due in for another 80 minutes or so to operate 93

On Saturday 24 March 2018, QF79, the 0920 hours morning MEL - NRT (A333 VH-QPC) departed 57 late. Suggested arrival is 1830 hours, 45 minutes tardy.

QF1533 (1100 hours CBR down to rainy MEL, B717 VH-YQU) was in the sky at 1144 so the predicted 1244 hours arrival will be 34 minutes behind time.

B738 VH-VZG on QF615, the 0955 hours BNE - MEL that took off at 1044 should pull in to its gate at 1350 hours, 35 minutes late.

QF63 (B744 VH-OJT), the 1135 hours SYD - JNB was not in the sky until 1249 after pushing back at 1228, so arrival is delayed until a forecast 1705 hours, half an hour late.

Delayed by the late arriving QF94, Saturday 24 March's QF93 pushed back at 1218 hours, 123 minutes tardy. Same day LAX arrival should be 0735, an even hour late. B789 VH-ZNC is the aircraft.

B744 VH-OEJ on the Friday 23 0820 hours LAX - JFK, QF11 took off at 0947, so arrival should be 37 minutes late at 1707 hours.

Not only the late arrival of QF94. According to a client of mine (QF staff person at MEL on checkin this morning), it was a real cough of a morning ...... the truck pumping out the sewerage tanks suffered an acute hose failure, covering employees in "waste" as well as spreading it over the tarmac. Hazmat team was called in to clear the waste which was then complicated/delayed by the onset of rain.

coriander, great information from your man on the spot and we can all make jokes about what you said but it wouldn't be fun. Off to the showers and an immediate change of clothes. Not something anyone should have to experience. Hope it very rarely occurs.

The initial MEL - PER - LHR B789 must be either VH-ZNB or VH-ZND as ZNA is in LAX and ZNC is on QF93 en route to LAX.

Last night’s QF25 was delayed until 1510 today. Today’s QF127 is currently 5 hours late and ticking.

QF5 is cancelled today meaning that yesterday’s flight was the last.
From tomorrow the QF5 is replaced by QF1.

On Saturday 24 March, QF15 departed BNE 99 minutes late at 1159 with same day LAX arrival forecast as 0720, 80 late, delaying the transcon. USA QF11 to JFK by 70 minutes to a suggested 0930 hours in its departure.

The penultimate QF9 (A388 VH-OQH) departed DXB on Friday 23 at 0851 hours, 21 late but did not arrive LHR until 1413 hours, 93 late as Middle East takeoff was not until 1041 hours. An hour and 50 minutes taxiing or waiting in line is a pretty long time although some who have flown in USA during winter will have endured an even longer period on the ground.

UPDATE: On Saturday 24, QF9 took off from DXB at 0910.

OQA Nancy Bird Walton will operate the last ever flight to DXB. Flight departs in approx half an hour. OQA has been out of service for last 10 days.

Also on Saturday 24 March, QF703 (B738 VH-VYA), the 1120 hours CNS - MEL arrived at 1626 hours, 41 late.

B789 VH-ZND departed MEL three minutes early at 1617 hours on the inaugural PER then LHR QF9.

ZNB (789) is operating QF777 today so that there is a backup 789 on the ground at PER in case of any issues with ZND. I guess it would be embarrassing if the inaugural was delayed.

That would require a full backup crew - flightdeck and cabin. I can’t imagine that both will be ready to depart as QF9 from PER at the same time as passengers and freight can only be loaded onto 1.
But yes at least any delays would be mitigated - the few times when the airline can just bring up a spare that just so happens to be sitting around

QF777 is estimated to arrive PER at 1706 hours, 21 late while QF9 is not far behind with estimated arrival at 1735, 15 late. If the latter doesn't pick up a few minutes on this estimate, it will make the chances of a 'to the minute' punctual departure in PER difficult for the inaugural nonstop to LHR.
