Qantas Delays/Cancellations

The next morning at check out there was an apology letter and an email address to complain to, I asked about SC as it was booked on a double promotion, no reply yet, and a cabcharge voucher...I was going to train it.
QF have a deal with Uber now (earn points on trips to/from AU airports when loading Uber via QF app). I have to wonder why they give out cabcharge vouchers when they could give Uber discount codes.

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

I can think of a few reasons...

Many people dislike or don’t know about Uber, especially elderly and foreigners.
They want to see a real taxi with a meter.

The hotel in BNE was in a pedestrian mall, there was a small back alley for pick ups, many Uber drivers probably don’t know that...there was a cab rank just 100m away to walk to easily as well.

Why would Qantas want to pay you more points than necessary?

Qantas is not stupid, they will not give Uber their credit card number and let it get hacked.

Qantas can also maximise tax deductions by claiming the (possibly) higher costs of a taxi.

Have you tried to get 4 people and suitcases into a Suzuki Swift?
The people are already mad at Qantas usually....

Better record keeping, tracking and safety in real taxis.

In further on Friday 20 April 2018, QF456. the 1715 hours MEL up to SYD (B738 VH-VYH) took off at 1800 so arrival at gate should be at 1910 hours, half an hour late.

QF10 (B789 VH-ZNA, the 1430 hours PEr across to MEL) took off late at 1523, so is arriving at 2026 hours, 31 minutes behind time. This will slightly delay QF95, the 2140 hours to LAX.

The 1810 hours BKK to SYD, QF24, is predicted to depart 75 late. Saturday 21 April arrival will be at 0735, 70 late.

A332 VH-EBM on QF485 (Saturday 21 April 0905 hours MEL - PER that was in the sky at 0952 hours) should arrive at 1157 hours, 42 minutes behind schedule.

QF29, the 0935 hours MEL up to HKG is again delayed with departure indicated as 1045, meaning arrival at least 45 late at 1805 hours.

This morning's QF20 arrived SYD at 0657, 47 late after departing MNL at 2043 last night, 43 late. QF24 from BKK was worse, commencing last night's pushback at 1934 (84 minutes tardy) and arriving SYD on 21 April 2018 at 0753 hours, 88 late.

QF29 now delayed 'til 1pm departure ...

These all too frequent QF delays contrast with the pretty good timekeeping of airlines like CX, SQ and so on whose planes are thousands of kilometres from their home base when in Oz.

I wonder how many passengers on tight schedules (businessmen and women, and some leisure travellers) take time before booking to include a comparison between carriers for punctuality as one important point to consider, given that safety is taken for granted - and air travel overall is very safe, unless one is flying in West Africa or perhaps Indonesia.

QF29 Rescheduled arrival time an ambitious 7:46pm ... delay due to "Blocked Lavatory" ...

serfty, thanks!

A while back I was on a SilkAir flight on which one lavatory was blocked out of three. We still flew.

Unless it was a case of sewerage spilling into the cabin (and hence making it unsanitary), wouldn't there generally have to be two or three toilets inoperable on a plane the size of an A332 or A333 for it to be declared unfit to fly?

With fog having been a problem in MEL on Saturday 21 April 2018, QF848, 1130 MEL - CBR took off at 1237 (VH-VYG.) Arrival should be at about 1331 hours, 56 minutes late.

Longhaul QF63 from SYD to JNB departed 83 late at 1218. Arrival should be 47 late at 1747 hours on Saturday. QF64, teh 1910 hours should be delayed by about 20 minutes but may well, as it often does, pick up this relatively small deficit on a gate-to-gate basis.

On Friday 20 Arpil, QF11 from LAX to JFK departed 62 late at 0922 hours, arriving 36 late at 1716. QF12 then pushed back in 'the Big Apple' at 1911, 61 late with suggested LAX at gate arrival becoming 2135 hours, 35 late.

QF29 now delayed 'til 1pm departure ...

QF29 on 21 April managed to commence pushing back at 1237 hours, 182 minutes late with HKG arrival suggested as 1945 tonight, 145 late.

It must be finicky to fix defective loos. Aircraft A333 VH-QPJ is next rostered on tonight's QF98, the 2015 hours HKG down to BNE that should be able to depart at about 2105 if all goes well.

This aircraft has been shutting between either MEL or BNE and HKG for three days. If it operates QF97 ex BNE on Sunday 22, in theory that will be on time.

Fog in MEL. My wife was on CX135 and almost on the ground when it aborted its landing and headed for SYD due to "thick fog suddenly rolling in" according to the captain. Now in SYD along with many other flights.

Due to the late QF29 yesterday, QF98 from HKG to BNE should arrive on Sunday 22 April at 0825 hours, 80 minutes late.

QF94 - did it divert due to fog in MEL? - took off from SYD on Sunday 22 (A388 VH-OQA) at 0817 so arrival in MEL should be at around 0935, 125 minutes late.

Later on Sunday 22 April, the 1430 hours MEL up to SYD that was in the sky at 1520 (B738 VH-VXG, QF440) is predicted to arrive at 1625, half an hour late.

Monday 23 April 2018 sees QF670, the 0600 hours from ADL across to MEL (B738 VH-VXM) not having become airborne until 0709. Likely arrival is 0838, 48 minutes late.

QF403, teh 0645 hours SYD down to MEL was almost identically late in becoming airborne 68 minutes later. B738 VH-XZO should arrive at 0914, 54 minutes tardy.

Colleague QF409 (VH-VYB) is similarly afflicted with this 07090 hours flight ex SYD taking off at 0802, meaning a suggested 0926 hours, 51 late arrival into the southern capital (at gate time.)

QF495, an 0710 hours SYD - MEL (B738 VH-VYK) was in the sky at 0804 so its scheduled 0845 hours at gate arrival has become a predicted 0927, 42 late.

The MEL fog has also seen QF471 (0615 hours SYD - MEL) cancelled.

MEL was predicted to be foggy as of last night but it is more like haze, although I am a long way from the airport and as always weather is very localised.

Thanks jb747.

QF413, the 0745 hours SYD - MEL was queuing at 0835 for takeoff so it too will be late into MEL - at least half an hour behind schedule. B738 VH-VZY has the task.

QF417, the 0830 hours SYD - MEL is estimated to depart at 0915. QF461, the 0845 should commence pushing back at 0920. QF419, the 0900 hours southbound is displaying as departing at 0950 hours.

In these circumstances, delays can be underestimated as crews get out of position and gates are unavailable due to aircraft that were scheduled to depart not having done so.

QF605, first of the morning at 0600 from BNE down to MEL was cancelled. QF609, the 0700 hours ex BNE departed at 0739: arrival should be at 1007 hours, 42 minutes tardy. QF611, the 0800 hours was similar, departing at 0838 with predicted arrival half an hour late at 1055 hours.
