Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Continuing with 3 May, QF37 from MEL to SIN departed 43 late at 1658. Arrival has been put back to a predicted 2310 hours, 45 late for A332 VH-EBS. The plane (A332 VH-EBS) had arrived in MEL 17 minutes early at 1358 on QF158 from AKL, so a mystery why it departed so late. Passengers at the AFFer JohnPhelan "barrrrrr?"

Friday 4 May 2018 has QF1568, the scheduled 1120 hours late morning from SYD up to OOL (B717 VH-YQU) in the early stages of taxiing as at 1222, so it will be about 45 minutes late, if not a bit more, arriving at the Gold Coast.

The SYD - SIN QF81 pushed back 29 minutes late at 1044. Arrival should be at 1721, 31 minutes late.

QF35 (late morning 1155 hours MEL up to SIN) departed 45 minutes late. Arrival should be at 1825, half an hour tardy.

The 1420 hours SYd - HKG, QF117 has been cancelled, as has Qf118, the 2325 hours HKg back to SYD redeye.

Continuing with Friday 4 May 2018, QF580, the 1230 hours lunchtime from PER across to SYD that was in the sky at 1336 hours (A332 VH-EBL) should arrive at 1915 hours, 40 minutes tardy.

QF626 (1610 hours from MEL up to BNE that was up up and away at 1659 with the usual B738, in this case VH-VZO, should arrive at 1852 hours, 32 minutes late.

QF463 (1830 hours SYD - MEL, A332 VH-EBD) took off at 1917 so a 35 minute tardy arrival at 1940 is expected.

The 1800 hours MEL up to SYD, QF458 was airborne at 1902 with B738 VH-XZM. Its arrival is estimated at 2005, 40 minutes down. Just ahead is QF496, the scheduled 1745 hours that took off at 1901 with VH-VZL: it should pull in to an allocated gate at roughly 2002 hours, 52 late.

QF766, the 1725 hours ADL - SYD took off at 1822. VH-VXR should be at its destination gate at approximately 2023 hours, 38 minutes late.

The 1805 hours MEL - CBR, QF2132 (Q400 VH-LQB) is worse with takeoff at 1923 tonight meaning arrival at 2015 hours, an hour behind schedule. Another aircraft must have failed because this one only arrived in MEL from CBR at 1828, which would not be the normal roster (arriving 23 minutes after a flight was due out.) FR24 records are incomplete.

QF462 (1900 hours MEL up to SYD that took off at 1946, B738 VH-VXK) should arrive at roughly 2056, 31 minutes late.

Saturday 5 May 2018 has QF97, the 1045 hours BNE - HKG having departed 63 minutes late, so arrival has become an expected 1845 hours, 45 minutes tardy.

On Sunday 6 May, QF23 is expected to depart from SYD 70 minutes late at 1100 for BKK. Consequently arrival should be at about 1755, 75 late, meaning QF24 will be delayed for its overnight trip back to SYD.

The B744 on QF15 (1010 hours BNE - LAX) should be departing as I write at 1100 with arrival suggested as 0705, 65 late. Thsi will at least slightly delay the transcon USA QF11 to JFK. 'The 16' this morning arrived BNE seven minutes early at 0558 hours so no obvious reason for the QF15 delay.

Saturday 5's QF1 arrived SIN (ex SYD) at 2206 hours, nine minutes ahead of schedule but this A388 did not depart for LHR until 0312 hours, 197 minutes late. London arrival should be 0945, 165 minutes tardy, but in plenty of time to form the evening QF2.

On Sunday 6, QF1544 (0920 hours morning CBR up to BNE, B717 VH-NXR) was airborne at 1020, so arrival is estimated at 1144, 44 minutes behind the timetable.

In further on Sunday 6 May 2018, QF117 (1420 hours SYD up to HKG) is predicted to depart an hour late. Arrival is showing as 65 late at 2305 tonight, but based on recent observations, the flight on a gate-to-gate basis may well pick up some time on the schedule.

On Sunday 6 May, QF23 is expected to depart from SYD 70 minutes late at 1100 for BKK...

QF23 did not depart until 1325 and become airborne until 1340, meaning arrival in BKK at a likely 1946 hours in the evening, 186 minutes late.

Aircraft A333 VH-QPA had arrived in SYD at 1027, 23 minutes early on QF118 ex HKG. That it formed QF23 implies that another A333 was defective.

FR24 also has QPA down to operate the delayed QF117, so that may have been the original plan. This may also explain why QF117 has not punctually departed.

QF24 is displaying as departing 160 minutes late at 2100 local time from BKK tonight, with Monday 7 arrival at 0915 hours, 170 late in SYD.

A333 VH-QPH on QF129, the 0930 hours SYd - PVG departed 49 minutes late so arrival has become 1920, 55 minutes late. QF130 tonight will be late off its starting blocks.

QF1510, the Monday 7 May 0630 hours CBR up to SYD did not take off until 0759 hours so arrival of B717 VH-YQY is delayed until about 0836 hours, 71 minutes behind schedule. The aircraft then formed the 0810 hours SYD - CBR, QF1513, that took off at 0921. Its arrival should be at 1006, 61 late.

QF1562, the 0615 hours CBR - BNE (VH-NXE, another B717) took off at 0803 hours. Arrival in the Sunshine State capital should be at 0836 hours, 101 minutes late.

The BOM only indicated that there was a 'chance of fog' this morning (although apparently temperatures dropped below freezing) but the above delays are classic for when fog hits.

A332 VH-EBE (QF565, 0625 hours early morning transcon from SYD across to PER) was airborne at 0732 hours. Arrival is expected 32 minutes late at 1007 hours.

B789 VH-ZNC on QF96 from LAX to MEL is arriving at about 0900 hours, 35 minutes late as it took off from LAX on Saturday evening 63 minutes after its scheduled 2355 hours very late night departure.

QF2205 (Q300 VH-SBT, the 0725 hours SYD - ABX that took off at 0832) is behind VA1174 and ZL767, so the QF flight is expected to arrive on the tarmac at about 0843 hours, 43 late.

B738 VH-VYB on QF412 (0730 hours from MEL up to SYD that took off at 0824) looks to be arriving at 0933 hours, 38 minutes behind the schedule.

Continuing with Monday 7 May, QF130 (2052 hours Sunday 6 PVG - SYD that was in the sky at 2205 hours) is arriving with A333 VH-QPH at 0941 hours, 76 minutes late.

Earlier, QF471, the 0615 hours SYD - MEL was cancelled, as was QF506, 0730 hours SYD - BNE.

The 0930 hours mid morning SYD to MEL, QF421, is expected to depart 35 late.

The SYD - KIX QF33 should commence its pushing back at 1045 hours, half an hour late.

In further on Monday 7 May 2018, the 0900 hours MEL - LAX QF93 A388 departed 51 late. Expected same day arrival is 0705, 40 late.

QF33 pushed back in SYD later than expected, at 1123 (68 minutes tardy) so KIX arrival should be at about 2015, 65 minutes behind time.

The 1210 hours SYD - PEK, QF107, is forecast to depart at 1300 hours.

Sunday 6 May's QF12 arrived LAX at 2108, just eight minutes late (ex JFK.) However the connecting A388 on the continuing QF12 did not commence its pushing back until 2335 hours, 65 minutes late. Tuesday 8 arrival should be at 0730 hours, an hour late. This should not on its own result in any late A388 departures ex Sydney on Tuesday.

While colleagues QF15 and QF94 are predicted to arrive early in respectively BNE and MEL, the same is not true for inbound QF96 that today (Monday 7) departed LAX at 0107 hours (72 minutes tardy) meaning Tuesday morning predicted arrival at 0900 hours, 35 late. Again, this should not have any adverse repercussions for timekeeping ex MEL tomorrow.

Monday 7's QF7 departed from SYD 53 late at 1328, so arrival at 1345, 45 late is expected.

A332 VH-EBE (QF565, 0625 hours early morning transcon from SYD across to PER) was airborne at 0732 hours. Arrival is expected 32 minutes late at 1007 hours.

I was on 565 this morning. Slight delay as it returned to the gate due to a circuit breaker popping during the taxi. All kept on board whilst the engineers checked for any issues.

Tuesday 8 May 2018 sees QF403, the 0645 hours from YD down to MEL (B738 VH-VXJ) not having taken off until a very late 0824 hours, so arrival has become 0943 hours, 83 minutes tardy.

VH-VXG on the same route is better, though still unpunctual with its arrival suggested as half an hour behind schedule at 1005 this morning. In contrast, showing what a lottery these flights can be, the following QF417 (A332 VH-EBM) is just six minutes late.

The 0825 hours SYD - PER (QF575) took off at 0918 with A332 VH-EBJ, meaning suggested arrival in the West's capital at 1201 hours, 31 late.

Most unusually, QF23 from SYD to BKK is not operating today.

The Qantas and FR24 websites give me the impression that this was planned (that is, it hasn't been a last minute cancellation.)

Normally this is a daily runner.

Does its non appearance reflect how May is one of the months of the year when demand is at its lowest?

A332 VH-EBL on QF462 (the 1900 hours early evening MEL to SYD that was in the sky at 2024 hours) should arrive at roughly 2129 hours, 64 minutes behind the timetable.

Wednesday 9 May 2018 sees the often delayed QF23 (0950 hours SYD to BKK) having departed at 1031. Arrival is estimated to be 40 late at 1720 this arvo, local time. VH-QPF is the A333.

'The 11' from SYD to LAX generlly has good timekeeping but today departed 132 late at 1147. Consequently arrival in movie city is predicted for 0747 hours, 87 minutes late same day. Given the percentage of passengers on the JFK connection that are from SYD, this will probably delay the transcon QF11. QF15 and QF93 from BNE and MEL are interestingly both punctual.

The SYD to SFO QF73 B744 is suggested as departing half an hour late at 1315 hours.

In further on 9 May 2018, QF73 (1245 hours lunchtime SYD to SFO) commenced its pushback 45 late. Arrival, same day should be at 0939 hours, 34 minutes late.

The SYD - CGK QF41 sometimes arrives early but not the case today, with departure at 1436, 51 late meaning projected arrival at 1932, 52 late. QF42 will be delayed as well.

Continuing with Wednesday 9 May 2018, QF582, the 1430 hours PER across to SYD that took off at 1527 hours with B738 VH-XZO should be at its destination gate at approximately 2128 hours this evening, 53 minutes tardy.

The evening MEL - CBR (QF822, B738 VH-VYL) should arrive 31 minutes late at 2106 hours.

QF743 (with B738 VH-VZG, the scheduled 1830 hours early evening SYD across to ADL that did not become airborne until 2019) should pull in to its designated gate at roughly 2132 tonight, 82 minutes behind the timetable.

On Thursday 10 May 2018, QF23 from SYD to BKK, the 0950 hours is showing as departing at 1015 but had not done so by 1035 hours.

This flight has become a very poor performer in its timekeeping. In contrast, TG is generally very good.
