Qantas Delays/Cancellations

B744 VH-OEH on QF128, the Saturday 25 August 2000 hours HKG down to SYD redeye did not take off until 2207 so Sunday 26 arrival is estimated at 0841, 106 minutes tardy. QF127, the northbound yesterday had arrived in HKG at 1921, 81 late but it was still a slow turnaround for the B744.

QF129, the 0930 hours SYD - PVG on Sunday is predicted to depart 35 late.

The 0935 hours MEL - HKG (QF29) should push back half an hour late.

The B744 on QF73, normally the 1245 hours lunchtime SYD - SFO will not depart until 1730, meaning a 1355 hours arrival (same day), 290 minutes late. It looks as if the flight is to be formed by the arriving QF64 from JNB that is coming in to SYD at 1540, 45 late this afternoon.

In further on Sunday 26 August, although QF16 from LAX arrived in BNE 90 late at 0735, QF15 back to LAX did not commence pushing back until 1218, 128 late, a very long time to 'reverse.' LAX arrival is predicted (same day) as 0729, 89 late, so at least some time on a gate-to-gate basis will be made up.

However the 0820 hours transcontinental QF11 will almost certainly be delayed to at least 0910 in its departure. In turn this will cause QF12, the 1810 hours ex JFK on Sunday 26 to depart late.

QF27, the 1135 hours Sunday 26 August SYD to SCL long flight was not showing earlier as delayed.

However B744 VH-OEI did not depart until 1402 or point skywards until 1419. Expected arrival is 1308 hours, 118 minutes late same day. The Sunday QF28 (1330 hours) is displaying as punctual but this is impossible. 1455 is a guess at revised departure, but it may pick up some gate-to-gate time.

The 1245 hours HBA - SYD (QF1584) on Sunday took off at 1405 with VH-NXQ. Arrival should be at 1546, 71 late.

Earlier today, this aircraft had taken off from SYD at 1027 hours on the morning SYD - HBA (QF1583) but shortly thereafter, returned to SYD having only got as far south as the same latitude as Wollongong (though off the coast). This flight took off again at 1143, arriving HBA at 1322, 82 late. Not sure why it diverted back to SYD.

Monday 27 August sees QF1543 (060 hours BNE down to CBR) having had an unexpected lie-in with takeoff not until 0816 for B717 VH-YQW. Arrival should be at 0948 hours, 108 minutes later than the schedule of 0800.

The 0655 hours CHC to SYD, QF138 (B738 VH-VZW) was in the sky at 0745. Arrival looks to be 0904 hours, 34 late.

WLG - SYD QF156 is worse, with this 0625 hours scheduled departure in the sky at 0756. VH-XZI should arrive at 0910 hours, an hour tardy.

Also on Monday 27 August, QF23, the 0950 hours frequently delayed SYD - BKK took off at 118 with A332 VH-EBS so arrival is likely at 1740, an hour late., The 1810 hours BKK - SYD (QF24) will be unable to depart prior to 1855.

A388 VH-OQH on QF11, the 0935 hours SYD - LAX pushed back at 1034 and became airborne at 1114 so arrival should be 40 late at 0700 hours.

A332 VH-EBN on QF143 (0955 hours SYD - AKL) did not take off until 1104 (desite departing at 1023) so arrival will be at 1536, 36 late.

B738 VH-VZW on QF121, the 0940 hours SYD - ski lovers' paradise ZQN pushed back at 1042: arrival is showing as 35 late at 1515 hours.

VH-XZI on the 0930 hours SYD - WLG departed at 1049 with arrival predicted as 1535, 55 late.

A333 VH-QPD on QF33 (1015 hours SYD up to KIX) was in the sky at 1122, so arrival is put back to an estimated 1955 tonight, 45 minutes late.

The 1055 hours SYD - JNB B744, QF63 is expected to depart at 1210 with arrival 80 late at 1820 local time, so the 1910 hours redeye (QF64) back to SYD won't depart until at least 2005.

Later on Monday 27 August 2018, QF1594 (B717 VH-YQX, the 1200 'high noon' ADL across and up to BNE that took off at 1341) should arrive at 1609 hours, 79 minutes behind the timetable.

B738 VH-XZI should arrive ex WLG in SYD on 27 August at 1835 hours, 55 late as it was delayed earlier today outbound.

Earlier, QF35 left MEL 39 late at 1234 with SIN arrival estimated as 40 late at 1835.

This evening, QF129 ex SYD should be on blocks in PVG also 40 minutes late at 1905 hours.

Earlier, the B744 on QF73 (1245 hours lunchtime SYD - SFO) pushed back 58 late for a suggested 0944, 39 minute late same day on blocks arrival.

B744 VH-OEI is not far behind with its SCL - SYD QF28 long flight suggested as being at its destination gate at roughly 1856, 126 minutes late.

QF12 on Sunday 26 August pushed back in JFK at 2040 hours, 150 minutes behind time so LAX arrival became 2314, 134 late. QF12 onward leg (different aircraft) departed promptly at 0024 on Monday 27 for a claimed Tuesday 28 SYD arrival at 0810, 100 minutes late.

'The 94' was not held but for other reasons departed behind time at 2319, 39 late meaning Tuesday predicted arrival at 0809 (also 39 late) in MEL.

The B789 on QF96 was off blocks in LAX at 0103 hours on Monday so Tuesday at gate arrival should be at about 0941, 76 minutes tardy.

Also on Monday 27 August 2018, QF1520 (B717 VH-YQW, the 1715 hours CBR - SYD that took off at 1915) should arrive at 1957, 107 late.

B738 VH-XZE on QF777 (scheduled 1700 hours MEL across to PER airborne at 1820 hours) should arrive at roughly 2003 hours, 53 late.

QF582 has A332 VH-EBR and is the mid afternoon 1430 hours PER to SYD that took off very late at 1654 hours. Arrival should be at 2246, 131 late so a pretty close call to the 2300 hours curfew.

QF29 (0935 hours Tuesday 28 August 2018 from MEL up to HKG) did not commence pushback until 1027 but arrival is predicted to be only 25 late at 1745.

On Wednesday 29 August 2018, QF23, the 0950 hours SYD - BKK is expected to depart an hour, arriving 40 minutes behind time at 1720.

moa999, thanks for above. The overnight delayed QF7 (now presumably QF7D) is expected to depart on Wednesday at 1235 (24 hours late) with same day DFW arrival at (also) 1235. Tuesday's QF8 is also expected to be exactly a day late, arriving SYD at 0605 hours on Friday 31 August.

The 0930 hours SYD - PVG, QF129 was predicted to depart half an hour late but the delay is greater than that.

On Tuesday 28 August, QF10 (1315 hours LHR - PER - MEL) did not depart until 1608, so PER arrival on Thursday has become an estimated 1535, 155 minutes tardy. This is one of the worst examples of late running since this nonstop commenced. Departure from PER this afternoon is anticipated at 1705, also 155 late for a 2235 hours (160 minutes late) MEL arrival.

'The 95' (scheduled at 2140 ex MEL for LAX) remains showing as on time. Given QF has six B789s, could it be using one that otherwise is runing MEL - BNE flights at present? (Normally, the QF10 arrival forms QF95). The BNE - LAX - JFK B789 flights don't start until Saturday 1 September if I recall.

In further on 29 August, QF129 departed SYD 57 late at 1027 with PVG arrival altered to an estimated 1905, 40 late.

QF23 was almost double the delay predicted, only having just pushed back at 1141 hours with arrival becoming a suggested 1800 hours, 80 late, delaying the overnight QF24 (1810 hours ex BKK) to about 1915 in its departure for SYD.

The 1035 hours SYD - HKG departed 70 minutes late (QF127) but the deficit on arrival should only be 25 minutes at 1825.

QF33 this morning was expected to only be 15 minutes late departing but the 1121 actual was 66 minutes tardy. Arrival in KIX should be 50 late at 2000 hours, delaying QF34 back down overnight to SYD.

Continuing with Wednesday 29 August, the SYD - SFO QF73 B744 departed 45 late at 1330 with same day morning arrival suggested as half an hour behind at 0935.

Although Tuesday 28's QF12 was 25 minutes late arriving in LAX at 2125 hours, the connecting QF12 for SYD did not depart until 0034 on Wednesday (124 late) so Thursday 30 arrival in SYD is estimated as 0807, 97 minutes behind schedule.

'The 96' is also late, having pushed back in LAX at 0108 today (73 minutes tardy) with Wednesday 30 MEL arrival predicted as 1000 hours, 95 late. However QF94 and QF6 are either early or hardly late.

Also on Wednesday 29, QF1550 (the 1720 hours CBR - BNE, B717 VH-YQU that was airborne at 1849) should arrive at 2010, 70 late.

On Wednesday 29 August 2018...

B789 VH-ZNB departed MEL on QF95 at 2146 hours, only six minutes late. Stablemate VH-ZND looks to be arriving at 2209 hours ex PER, 134 minutes late.

Thursday 30 August 2018 finds QF1545, the 0845 hours from BNE down to CBR with B717 VH_YQX in the sky at 0937, so arrival is likely at 1112, 37 minutes behind schedule.

QF81 (1015 hours morning SYD - SIN) is predicted to depart at 1100.

The 0935 hours major flight, QF11 from SYD to LAX was off blocks at a time to remember, 1111 hours so same day arrival is expected at 0715, 55 late. This will delay the onwards second last B744 from LAX to JFK, QF11 (from Saturday 1 September it should normally be a B789).

The SYD - MNL flights have had quite a few delays lately, although not as bad as SYD - BKK. Today QF19 (1210 hours) is forecast to depart an hour late with MNL arrival at 1905, 35 late, slightly delaying redeye QF20 back down to SYD, the 2000 hours ex the Philippine capital.

UPDATE: QF19 (A332 VH-EBP) pushed back in SYD at 1311, 61 late but arrival is showing as 1829 hours, 50 late. This aircraft arrived in SYD 11 minutes early at 1109 on QF574 ex PER, so would then have had to transfer to the QFi gate. Quite good to get it underway in 122 minutes from gate arrival, but suggests another A332 had failed as normally an domestic arrival after 1100 wouldn't form a c.1200 'high noon' QFi departure.

Also on Thursday 30 August, QF475 (A332 VH-EBF), the 1135 hours MEL - PER took off at 1159 (about 10 minutes late) has flown just north of ADL and is losing time, with arrival suggested at 1438, 53 minute stardy.

However the following QF769, the 1240 hours (A332 VH-EBK) was airborne at 1251, on time and should also arrive at 1438, 12 early, but far faster gate-to-gate than QF475.

QF475's land route over the Nullabor is way north of the Great Australian Bight route QF769 is taking. Indicated speed for QF475 is 591kmh v QF769 at 817kmh with both about 1300 - 1350km from Perth.

Does VH-EBF lack 180 minute EDTO (the former ETOPS if I recall) authority from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority?

Additionally on 30 August 2018, QF1 that is often on time is not tonight with its 1555 SYD scheduled departure becoming takeoff at 1716 hours after a 1703 hours push back. This is a faster time to 'wheels up' than I've experienced.

SIN stop should be from 2315 to 0020, the latter on Friday 31 with the 65 minute estimate optimistic. QF suggests LHR arrival tomorrow at 0710 hours, only 15 late for A388 VH-OQE.

QF130 on Thursday 30 is predicted to depart PVG at 2020 (half an hour late) for a friday 31 SYD arrival at 9899 hours, 35 late, while QF20 from MNL should be 35 late pushing back at 2035 for a Friday SYD at gate arrival at 0650, 40 late.

QF16 is diverting to HNL due to a medical

Thanks mile (as usual).

Updating this, QF16 (B744 VH-OJT) departed LAX on Wednesday 29 August six minutes late at 2326, so unexceptional.

The HNL stop is predicted as 0225 to 0400 - fairly long for a medical (with the QF site implying that it was meant to be an 0315 hours departure - not that I've ever been on board when one has occurred, thank God) with resultant BNE Friday 31 August arrival at 0825, 140 late.

This will delay Friday's QF15, the last timetabled working of that flight as a B744 (although QF55 becomes the 'newbie' for Queen of the Skies, up to three times a week).

Also on Friday, the LAX to MEL QF96 (B789 VH-ZNB) should arrive at 0906 hours, 41 late.

UPDATE: QF16 was in HNL from 0221 to 0340 on Thursday 30, and arrived BNE at 0841 on Friday 31, 156 minutes late.

The final B744 QF15 is expected to depart 40 late from BNE this morning at 1050 hours.

The delayed QF1 from Thursday 30 August stopped in SIN from 2321 houyrs, 66 late, and then took off on Friday 31 at 0309 meaning suggested LHR arrival at 0918 hours, 143 late and far worse than the QF software was claiming.

Friday's QF23 has been delayed from 0950 to an expected 1200 'high noon' in its departure ex SYD for BKK. QF24 back overnight will not be punctual.

QF81, the 1015 hours SYD - SIN should push back 45 late.
