Qantas Delays/Cancellations

It was ZNF’s first international trip.

As a result there are some weird movements today. QF9 is being operated by a 332 to Perth. The onward journey is delayed until tomorrow morning.

Today’s QF485 is being operated by a 787 (the aircraft that was to operate the QF9 today).

Beats having QF10/9 PER-MEL-PER being operated by a 737 (It has happened previously!)

In further on Monday 3 September, QF63, the 1055 hours SYD - JNB is departing at a projected 1400, so it will be a long wait for passengers on tonight's QF64.

QF117 (1420 hours SYD - HKG) should depart two hours late.

As per above, the PER - LHR QF9 today is expected to depart at 0800 tomorrow with a LHR arrival at a suggested 1805 hours on Tuesday 4.

QF has yet to update what time QF10 will depart on Tuesday (or is it cancelled?)

Is it correct that all flight crew are Oz-based - hence a delay like this will mean a further delay in the opposite direction due to minimum rest periods required in London?

I gather some cabin crew for QF9/10 are Poms and are LHR based. Originally I thought it was all but two individuals I know who've travelled suggested some are Australians and based here not in the UK.

On QF1/2, are all cabin crew Oz-based or are there a few Poms who live in the UK?

Not one of QF's better days.

My experience is that aircraft are most reliable when middle aged. New aircraft, especially of a new design, can be extremely unreliable. New build aircraft, can also be full of manufacturing bugs.
'
And yet, while I will have missed a few problems, to date the first five QF B789s have been pretty reliable (i.e. not failing much), although in line with so many domestic flights,.the MEL - BNE - MEL operations have not always been on time. 'Bedding in' applies to a lot of transport equipment or rollingstock.

The pilots are all Oz based. Some Perth, some east coast. There is no reason for a delayed arrival to impinge upon the next departure. Some crews may have a shorter slip, and some longer, but this will be absorbed without any issues.

Problems can arise with very short slips, but London isn't short.

The cabin crew operating between Sydney/Singapore and Melbourne/Perth are Australians based in Oz. Out of the UK, they are all UK based, though there are some Australians, who've gone to that base. Sometimes, a couple of UK crew per trip are given sectors from Singapore to Melbourne/Sydney.

It's not exactly a new type now, though those operators who took the alternate engine might have something to say about reliability.

Also on Monday 3 September 2018, QF63 from SYD to JNB departed at 1439 so arrival is estimated at 1950, 170 minutes late. With organisation and luck, QF64 ought be off blocks at around 2135 South African time, 145 late for the redeye run back to Sydney.

Perenially late QF23 was 37 minutes tardy in pushing back in SYD at 1027; arrival in BKK should be 40 late at 1720 hours.

The 1235 hours SYD - DFW (QF7) pushed back 67 minutes late. Arrival should be at 1420 same day, 80 late.

'The 117' was altered to depart two hours late (as noted above) at 1620 ex SYD fior HKG, but did so at 1647. Arrival is set for 0015 on Tuesday 4 September, 135 late, meaning QF118 back down to SYD will be delayed.

The 1515 hours MEL - PER Monday QF9 is operating that sector with A332 VH-EBE and should be 12 minutes early arriving, at 1713 this afternoon.

QF9 on to LHR is delayed overnight (as discussed elsewhere on AFF) with a new time of 0910 ex PER on Tuesday 4 for a suggested 1920 hours arrival at LHR, 855 minutes late. QF10 ex PER at 1430 hours today (Monday) has been cancelled.

It was ZNF’s first international trip.
I saw it alongside Gate 27 (MEL Domestic) on Saturday morning and didn't realise it was being prepared for the LHR run, I had thought it must be on a later domestic run.

OATEK, you can be correct, as a B789 has been doing MEL - BNE - MEL 'training' flights (with passengers, not empty).

ZNF arrived Friday morning from BNE on a domestic flight at Gate 21, and next flight was Saturday afternoon QF9 from international. Wonder why it was on gate 27 on Saturday.

I was on the 8:45am to Lst and the 789 was there with doors opens and stairs in place, but no visible activity.

Also on Monday 3 September 2018....QF9 on to LHR is delayed overnight (as discussed elsewhere on AFF) with a new time of 0910 ex PER on Tuesday 4 for a suggested 1920 hours arrival at LHR, 855 minutes late. QF10 ex PER at 1430 hours today (Monday) has been cancelled.

Qantas is now displaying the amended time for QF10, the 1315 hours LHR - PER on Tuesday 4 September. It has been altered to depart at 2045, which seems very optimistic if it only arrives at 1920 hours. The suggestion is for a 2025 hours Wednesday night arrival in PER.

QF10 (1430 ex PER Wednesday) is also cancelled as it was today.

Earlier on Monday 3 September, QF28 arrived 41 late at 1731 hours.

Oh dear.

QF24 arrived in SYD this morning at 0738, 73 late after its journey from BKK.

QF23 is at it again, with its 0950 hours scheduled departure delayed to 1210 hours on Tuesday 4 September. This SYD - BKK flight should arrive at 1850 tonight, 130 late, so if true the 1810 hours QF24 redeye back down to SYD should begin pushing back at around 2035.

Just hopeless how often it runs late.

QF117, the second flight of the day to HKG by this airline has been cancelled. So is QF118, the 2325 hours redeye HKG back to SYD tonight.

On Tuesday 4 September, the overnight delayed QF9 from PER to LHR departed at 0956, 46 minutes later than had been suggested as the revised time. LHR arrival should be at 2010 hours, 785 minutes late.

QF has yet to alter the delayed QF10 ex LHR on Tuesday from a '2045 hours' departure. 2155 or later would be more realistic.

QF23 departed SYD on Tuesday at 1228, 158 late with BKK arrival suggested as 1833 hours, 173 minutes behind schedule.

Also on Tuesday 3 September, QF7 from SYD to DFW pushed back 22 late at 1257. Arrival is expected same day at 1335, 35 late.

QF37, the 1615 hours MEL - SIN had a recnt day when it was four hours late but mostly it is on time.

However on Tuesday 4 September, it pushed back at 1801 with arrival suggested as 0003 hours on Wednesday 5, 98 minutes late. QF38 was 98 minutes late this morning arriving in MEL so it looks to be repeating that on Wednesday morning.

Given the overnight delayed QF9, the QF website has changed to show a more realistic suggested departure from LHR for QF10 on Tuesday 4 Seotember at 2150 hours.

PER arrival on Wednesday 5 is predicted as 2130, 510 minutes late. QF10 PER -MEL on Wednesday remains cancelled.

With the Japanese typhoon shutting KIX, it won't come as a surprise that QF33/34 SYD - KIX and return on Wednesday have been cancelled.

The KIX website is down at the moment.
It appears that the other airports in the area (Osaka-Itami and Kobe) are open.
