Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Quickstatus, SYD in my humble view is a 'hub' in that passengers can and do transfer: Singapore to Christchurch is one example; Fiji to Hong Kong might be another. Plus it's clearly a hub between international and domestic flights with the latter radiating to all parts of Oz. Additionally, at say 0900 in the morning many QFi aircraft are in SYD.

SYD has a 'very substantial presence' of QFi A332s/ A333s and as far as the smallish QF fleet for the A388s and B744s, also for those. Plus it's a true (domestic) hub for B738s - ubiquitous!

MEL and BNE are lesser hubs for QFi (much smaller!) but MEL is very close to SYD in numbers of domestic passengers carried from or to it.

I think know what you mean though: you're thinking that airports like Changi are classic 'hub and spokes', and fair enough.

If it is a hub it’s a very small hub:) and yes passengers do transfer mostly between international and domestic but not a substantial one in terms of a true hub where substantial passengers transfer between international sectors

I see it more as a point to point.

SYD comes close. I don’t know how a Hub would be defined but im assuming that it’s not really a hub when the majority of the aircraft are in destination ports or in transit at any time?.
Depends if they use it as a banked hub or a rolling hub. Are you suggesting it is a focus city instead?

In addition to the Sunday 16 September 2018 Oz - HKG and return QF (and other airlines') cancellations noted above, QF129, the 0930 hours SYD - PVG was expected to depart 80 minutes late but is worse than that. I assume a flight path is available that sees it avoid Typhoon Mangkhut.

On Saturday 15, the new flight QF55 departed BNE at 1845, 55 late, arriving LAX at 1402 hours, 32 late. QF27 (SCL - SYD) arrived at 1739, 49 late.

QF64 departed JNB on Saturday at 1958, 48 late; Sunday SYD arrival should be at 1523, 28 late.

In further on Sunday 16 September, QF63 departed SYD 52 late at 1147 meaning suggested JNB arrival at 1744, 44 late. This flight is not as bad as QF23 for delays, but it is beginning to be delayed quite often.

QF107 pushed back in SYD 68 minutes tardy at 1318 on Sunday 16 with PEK arrival estimated as 2331, 76 late. In turn this will result in QF108 (the redeye) being delayed.

The HND - SYD B744, QF26 is not often late as like all the QF and other operators' Japan flights, there's pressure on it to be punctual due to the busy Japanese airports, and the aircraft spends all day idle.

However on Monday 17 September, QF21 operated on the SYD - NRT route with this meant to leave SYD at 1025. It took off at 1133, arriving 80 late at 2010 hours. QF22, the 2120 hours then was airborne from NRT at 2201 with Tuesday 18 September arrival likely at 0824 in SYD, 54 late. This must be a special due to the ongoing unavailability of KIX. Aircraft was A333 VH-QPJ.

Also on Tuesday 18 September 2018, QF63 (1055 hours morning SYD - JNB) departed 23 late but is expected 40 late at 1740 this afternoon (local time) in JNB.

QF107 (1210 hours SYD - PEK) was off blocks at 104 this afternoon (113 minutes behind time) with suggested arrival 2330, 75 late. This means the 2345 hours QF108 redeye will be departing some time after 0040 on Wednesday 19.

The 1230 hours PER across to SYD, QF580 (B744 VH-OEI) was in the sky at 1315. Arrival is expected at 1910 this evening, 45 minutes behind time.

Although Monday 17's QF1 departed SYD two minutes early at 1553 hours, its SIN departure was not until 0025 on Tuesday 18, half an hour late with LHR arrival at 0729, 34 late.

1913 hours, also 38 minutes late.

QF79 departed MEL 28 minutes late at 0938 hours with NRT arrival suggested as 1913 hours this evening, 38 late.

The 1015 hours SYD to SIN, QF81 departed at 1106 with arrival at 1750, an hour late.

The very long flight QF7 from SYD to DFW departed at 1330 with arrival likely at 1333 same day, 33 late.

QF56, the Tuesday 18 September 2215 hours recently introduced LAX - BNE pushed back at 2236. Thursday 18 arrival should be at 0530, half an hour late.

B738 VH-VZY - not my preferred fleet type across the Tasman - on QF138 (Thursday 20 September, the 0655 hours CHC - SYD that was not airborne until 0826) should arrive at 0932, 62 minutes late.

Currently a guest at the Mecure due to today;s QF7 being cancelled

It is showing as departing at 0830 hours on Friday 21 September for claimed arrival on that day at 0900 hours, 1200 minutes late.

'The 81' (1015 hours morning SYD - SIN) was off blocks at 1047 so arrival should be at 1723, 33 late.

The 1055 hours B744 from SYD to JNB (QF63) has often been delayed of late, with today's pushback at 1130 suggesting a 1750 hours, 50 late arrival local time this afternoon in South Africa.

QF19, the 1210 hours SYD to MNL departed an hour late with arrival likely at 1935, 65 late. This will delay the 2000 hours redeye back to SYD until about 2050.

Noel Mugavin, thanks! Difficult to understand how QF can fit everyone from today's and tomorrow's flight (and the returning ones from DFW) onto the one aircraft, unless load factors are abysmally low.

Are all meals being provided gratis with one free alcoholic or other drink thrown in as well for lunch and dinner, or are you receiving a monetary amount to pay for these?

Also on 20 September, QF139 (B738 VH-XZH, the 1755 hours SYD across to CHC that was airborne at 1843) is predicted to arrive at 2335 late tonight, 35 late.

The 1820 hours early evening CBR - MEL took off at 1907 with B738 VH-XZG. Arrival is forecast as 2001 hours, 31 late.

They can connect people via HNL, SFO and LAX.

On Friday 21 September, QF23, the 0950 hours SYD - BKK is expected to depart 55 minutes late with arrival at a projected 1725, 45 late.

This flight is QF's worst to Asia in terms of delays. The 1000 hours TG competing flight almost always departs ahead of 'the 23.'
