Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Although QF28 departed SCL on Sunday 18 only eight minutes late at 1343, Monday 19 SYD arrival is forecast at 1819, 39 minutes tardy. This B744 (VH-OEH) is then forming the 2135 hours SYD - HND (QF25) so latter should not suffer any delay.

QF12 is arriving on Monday 19 in SYD (ex LAX) at about 1050 hours, 135 late. 'The 94' is coming in to its MEL gate at an estimated 1046 hours, 56 late. QF16, the LAX - BNE redeye should arrive at its gate in the Sunshine State at 0911, 116 minutes tardy.

These LAX delays are because QF11 (the 0820 hours Saturday 17 November LAX across to JFK) did not depart until 0932, arriving in the 'Big Apple' at 1720, 50 minutes behind schedule. QF12 then pushed back 65 minutes late at 1905, arriving in LAX at 2158, 63 late.

As a result, the A388-operated QF35 from MEL to SIN should depart half an hour late at 1250 hours this afternoon.

However in theory QF15 (timetabled to push back in BNE at 1120) ought not be delayed for its return to LAX.

As noted in a previous post, QF9 was tardy yesterday (Sunday 18) on its first sector. It subsequently departed PER at 2101, 81 minutes behind schedule with Monday 19 LHR arrival suggested as 0640 hours, 95 late. This flight normally has good timekeeping although with winter about to descend in the northern hemisphere it will be interesting to see if that continues. Other AFFers have suggested that the risk of diversions is much greater in winter.

Continuing today
QF426 MEL-SYD the 11am service has been cancelled
QF1511 SYD-CBR 6 50am also cancelled...

Like February and May, Novermber is a 'low(er) travel demand' month (airlines plus surface transport) despite being a full 'business' month.

It wouldn't surprise if these cancellations (and others that Silvia has posted earlier today) were due to insufficient bookings.

QF8 today will operate via BNE as bad weather is expected on route and will use the stop over to refuel.
This means that the arrival to SYD is scheduled at 8 15am,130 min behind schedule.

More on today,
QF678 ADL-MEL left 12 47, 112 min late, landing at 2 24pm, 99 min behind.

QF880 MEL-OOL (VH-VZJ) left until 11 32am this morning, 97 min tardy, landed at 12 12pm, 72 min behind. This has impacted QF881 OOL-MEL service which departed at 1 26pm, 106 min late, expected to arrive in Mel at 4 25pm 90 behind schedule.

Later on Monday 19 November 2018, QF1569 (1240 hours lunchtime OOL down to SYD that was in the sky at 1412) looks to be arriving at 1629 hours, 79 minutes tardy. VH-NXE is the B717.

As noted above, due to the delayed QF94 from LAX, QF35 had been expected to depart MEL at 1300, 40 late. This however became 1322, so A388 VH-OQG should arrive at about 1815 early this evening, 70 minutes late. QF36, the redeye, has consequently an amended departure time half an hour late at 2010 ex the Lion City for an expected arrival tomorrow morning at 0635, 35 late. At this stage, that ought not delay QF93 tomorrow morning ex MEL for LAX.

Fortunately for CBR-bound passengers, the next flight for this aircraft (QF820) was not scheduled to depart MEL until 1440 so the late running to the national capital will be limited to about 25 minutes. An hour 55 minute turnaround in the middle of the day is generous and shows how demand away from the morning and afternoon drops off, but also allows for recovery if one flight is late. This is very day and roster specific for all our domestic airlines: some days an aircraft may have much tighter turnaround times and given other 'traffic' not much opportunity to pick up time all day if it is delayed on any sector.

In more on Monday 19 November, QF722 from ASP down to ADL (B738 VH-XZG) should arrive at 1559 hours, 54 late. QF723 northbound had been late.

Monday 19 November has also seen QF2 from SIN (and LHR) arrive in SYD at 0708 hours, 53 late.

The Sunday 18 QF2 departed LHR at 2101 hours, just six minutes tardy and should arrive SIN at 1805, 20 late. QF expects it will push back there at 1940, 25 late for SYD Tuesday 20 November expected arrival at gate at 0645 hours, half an hour behind schedule.

Today Tuesday the 20th has again the CBR-SYD QF1510 6 30am service cancelled, also the SYD-CBR QF1513 8 10am service was cancelled.
QF12 LAX-SYD (VH-OQF) left at 11 19pm (49 behind), landed in Sydney 36 min late at 9 11am.
QF488 SYD-MEL service cancelled
QF738 ADL-SYD service (VH-VYI) left at 11 23am, 83 behind and it's arriving 57 behind schedule.

Wednesday 21 November 2018 has seen QF19, the 1225 hours SYD to MNL depart 28 minutes late with arrival suggested as 45 late at 2015, delaying the returning redeye QF20.

QF35 (1220 hours lunchtime MEL up to SIN A388) pushed back 58 late with Lion City arrival forecast as 1830, 85 late. The 1940 hours overnight QF36 should depart at 2025 with Thursday 22 arrival suggested as 0640, 40 late. This should be in plenty of time for a punctual departure for tomorrow morning's QF93 from MEL to LAX.

Similar to Silvia's report yesterday, the Wednesday QF81 from SYD was only 12 minutes late departing at 1130 hours but arrival is likely at 1730 hours, 45 minutes tardy.

Tuesday 20 Nov QF28 was 4 hours late leaving SCL (5.30pm instead of 1.35). Heard it was electrical issue. Late to board, started to taxi then returned to pad for engineers to fix problem. Made up a little time and landed SYD just before 9 pm. Chaos as most connecting flights were missed.
