Qantas Delays/Cancellations

QF16 on Friday 27 June, the 2320 hours LAX - BNE B789 departed 37 late with Sunday 30 arrival indicated as 51 late at 0656 hours. This should not delay QF15 back to LAX.

As noted above, the MEL - NRT Saturday 29 QF79 is delayed, although expected arrival has slightly improved to 1959 tonight. As a result, QF62 tonight should depart NRT for BNE 85 minutes tardy at 2120 with Sunday 30 arrival 0725 hours, 90 late.

Sunday 30th of June sees QF20 MNL-SYD (A332 VH-EBM) arriving at 7 32, 82 min behind schedule.

Also, QF34 KIX-SYD (A332 VH-EBR) has a revised arrival at 8 15, 65 min tardy.

In more on Sunday 30 June 2019, QF29, the 0940 hours MEL - HKG is expected to push back at 1115 with arrival at 1900 tonight to be 100 minutes tardy.

The NRT - BNE QF62 arrived on Sunday at 0740, 105 late.

UPDATE: QF29 pushed back at 1125 with arrival now said to be 1840, 80 late.

The 1400 hours MEL - SYD (QF438) has been cancelled as is QF444, the 1530 hours northbound. Not good on a Sunday afternoon that may be even busier during school holidays.

In more on Sunday 30 June, QF19 that was earlier displaying as punctual (the 1210 hours lunchtime SYD - MNL) is expected to push back at 1315 with arrival at 1925, 55 late.

UPDATE: A332 VH-EBV pushed back at 1325 with arrival predicted as 1923, 53 late. It had earlier arrived as QF130 from PVG 24 early at 0801 hours, so with such a lengthy turnaround no obvious standout reason for the delay to 'the 19' exists.

QF9, the Sunday 30 June MEL - PER - LHR departed 29 late at 1544 hours with arrival in PER estimated as 1749, 34 behind. In turn this will delay the second sector that ordinarily departs at 1845.

Saturday 29 June 2019's scheduled transcontinental USA QF12 (JFK - LAX, B789 VH-ZNF) pushed back 182 minutes late at 2112 hours so arrival became 2342, 162 late.
The delay was not so much due to QF11 on Saturday morning taking off from LAX at 0929 (about 45 - 50 minutes tardy) but its loss of time enroute, with arrival in JFK at 1904 hours, 144 late and then as MEL_Traveller has pointed out, almost inevitable further excess time on the ground in JFK. Were there thunderstorms on approach to JFK?

This turned the different aircraft (A388 VH-OQF) operating the second sector LAX - SYD into an estimated 0115 hours departure, but it's later than that. Monday 1 July 2019 SYD arrival is estimated as 0920 hours, 170 late but it may become worse.

'The 94' to MEL was not held in LAX, departing only eight late at 2248 hours so once again MEL-bound passengers will have the joy of changing to a QFd in either SYD (probably more likely) or BNE. While it depends on spare seats on each, the B789 is far smaller capacity to BNE so if each were 85 per cent full, fewer available seats are on the B789.

QF16 from LAX to BNE on 29 June pushed back at 0135 on 30 June, 135 late so Monday 1 July arrival is suggested as 0820 hours, 135 late and considering the delay from New York, quite a good effort. As QF15 on Monday is not timetabled to depart BNE until 1020 hours, hopefully it will be punctual.

UPDATE: QF12 pushed back in LAX at a less than ideal time of 0219 hours, 229 late so Monday 1 July arrival in SYD should be at about 0953, 203 late.

Also today, QF102 NAN-SYD (B738 VH-VZI) has a revised arrival at 21 28, 88 min tardy.

A few MEL-SYD and SYD-MEL cancellations

QF465 SYD-MEL 19 00 hours
QF493 SYD-MEL 19 15 hours
QF491 SYD-MEL 20 30 hours
QF452 MEL-SYD 17 00 hours

The cancellation on these routes is a bit lengthier on VA flights.

QF452 MEL-SYD 17 00 hours

With the two I'd identified earlier in the day northbound, this makes three each way during the afternoon/evening. Even if all were to be B738s, that's in excess of 500 seats to find on other flights if the cancellations were full.

Does the VA comment mean it has more cancelled flights on the MEL - SYD - MEL route this afternoon than QF, or something else?

QF1509, Monday 1 July's 0645 hours morning short hop SYD - CBR (B717 VH-YQY) did not take off until 0906 so arrival is at 0943, 123 minutes tardy.

QF153 MEL-AKL, the 11 45 service has been cancelled.

QF1564 SYD-OOL has a revised departure at 13 00. This will also push back the departure of QF1565 OOL-SYD (B717 VH-YQT).

A couple of hours ago, QF29, the Monday 1 July 0940 hours MEL - HKG (A333 VH-QPI) was displaying as a predicted on time pushback but takeoff was not until 1049. Resultant arrival should be 1801 hours, 41 late.

Another flight that was also predicted to be timely but isn't is QF81, the 1010 hours SYD - SIN that was off blocks at 1113 hours. Arrival has altered to a projected 1747, 57 late.

QF63, Monday 1 July's 1055 hours SYD - JNB B744 was off blocks at 1122 with arrival projected as 1730, half an hour behind schedule.

Long distance '7' from SYD to DFW departed 20 late at 1255 but arrival is delayed until 1335, 35 late.

As with a few other flights, QF107 ex SYD was this morning showing as unevntfully forecast as punctual but this 1210 hours scheduled departure has been delayed to mid afternoon's 1500 hours with PEK arrival at 0030 hours on Tuesday 2, 135 late. This will delay the redeye QF108 back down to SYD to a pushback at about 0140 if all goes swimmingly.

With quite strong Monday 1 July afternoon MEL winds gusting to 50kmh, QF449 (B738 VH-VXM that took off at 1512, very much on time considering its 1500 hours pushback time) is arriving at 1705, half an hour behind schedule. The plane had to hold above Mt Buller.

QF445, the 1530 hours ex SYD similarly was punctual in becoming airborne at 1545 but VH-VYZ's arrival will be 1735 or later, so at least half an hour behind.

VH-VZJ on QF690, the 1455 hours ADL across to MEL up up and away at 1520 (about 12 late) is hopefully arriving at 1717, 32 late as it held south of Donald.

QF35 MEL-SIN (A380 VH-OQC) was airbone at 16 49, arrival is suggested at 22 33, 278 min behind schedule.

QF444 MEL-SYD (B738 VH-VZI) has a revised arrival at 17 47, 52 min tardy.

QF35 MEL-SIN (A380 VH-OQC) was airbone at 16 49, arrival is suggested at 22 33, 278 min behind schedule...

Due to this even later pushback than QF had earlier predicted, QF via Silvia's advice above that tonight's QF36 would depart the Lion City at 2345 has become tardier with an 0010 hours, Tuesday 2 departure suggested. Arrival in MEL tomorrow morning is predicted as 0915 hours, 220 minutes late.

With 'the 94' expected to arrive MEL tomorrow 16 early at 0714 hours, we may see what QF did within the last couple of weeks and have QF94's arrival form the 0900 hours MEL - LAX QF93. This is what used to nearly always occur when QF9/10 were an A388 and operated via DXB but since the change to the LHR flights, normally the arriving QF36 forms QF93 while QF94 that arrives in MEL ex LAX then toddles off to SIN at 1155 hours as QF35.

Tuesday 2nd of July sees QF8 DFW-SYD (A388 VH-OQL) arriving at 6 19, 71 min tardy.
QF408 MEL-SYD (A332 VH-EBA) has a revised arrival at 9 22, 57 min behind.
QF36 SIN-MEL (A388 VH-OQC) has a tentative arrival at 9 18. 223 min late.
QF93 MEL/LAX (A388 VH-OQJ) has a suggested departure at 11 10, 130 min behind original schedule.
Also, QF80 NRT-MEL (A333 VH-QPJ) has a tentative arrival at 9 49, 134 min tardy.

QF 1545 Bne to Cbr 8.45am cancelled today. Got the text at 2am couldn't get back to sleep. Most likely a school holiday cancellation decided before 2am. Would be polite to let you know the night before
