Would QF consider a wet lease in this situation they are in?. How quickly can a wet lease be activated?

I wouldn't think it could be done in less time than it would take to get the QF aircraft back on line. It's not a simple case of finding someone with a few aircraft and crews to spare.

But Likely their A380 could do the longer range transpacific routes but at lower takeoff weight (therefore lower passenger loads) because of their lower thrust rating of their engines (about 7500lbs of thrust less in total)

It could probably do the run, at least to Sydney. The extra power allows the use of 24L for departures, but I suspect that you'd get away with the lower power figure on 25L. The aircraft weight itself is also likely lower, which would be more of an issue.

Continuing today the following services are cancelled:
15 15 hours QF483 SYD-MEL
16 15 hours QF468 MEL-SYD
16 30 hours QF449 SYD-MEL
17 20 hours QF777 MEL-PER
17 30 hours QF455 SYD-MEL
18 15 hours QF474 MEL-SYD
18 30 hours QF463 SYD-MEL

Continuing today the following services are cancelled:
15 15 hours QF483 SYD-MEL
16 15 QF468 MEL-SYD
16 30 QF449 SYD-MEL
17 30 QF455 SYD-MEL
18 15 QF474 MEL-SYD
18 30 QF463 SYD-MEL

While you may not have shown earlier cancellations, these are unbalanced. Four southbound v two northbound. Unusual.

In more on Wednesday 7 August 2019, QF27 (1235 hours lunchtime long flight SYD - SCL) departed 21 late. Same day arrival for this B744 is estimated as 1135, half an hour behind. This should not delay the returning QF28.

'The 79' was off blocks in MEL at 1014, 64 late with forecast arrival in NRT a similar level of lateness with 1940 the prediction, 65 down.

QF29 pushed back in MEL at 1016, 36 late with HKG arrival suggested as 1750, half an hour late.

In SYD, QF81 did not depart this morning until 1110, an hour late with Lion City arrival predicted as 1800 in the early evening, 70 late.

QF19, the 1210 hours SYD - MNL was off its blocks at the exact time of 1300 hours with at gate arrival suggested as 1910 hours this evening, so QF20 back overnight, the 2000 hours, will be a little late away.

On Tuesday 6 August, the B789 on the initial QF12 JFK - LAX sector departed an hour late at 1910 hours, arriving only 35 late at 2135 hours. However the connecting A388 pushed back at 2315, 45 late with Thursday 8 arrival in SYD suggested as 0704 hours, 34 late.

QF16 from LAX to BNE is worse, pushing back at 0037 - 77 late - so Thursday arrival should be 0729, 84 minutes behind schedule. This should not however affect QF15 tomorrow morning.

I'm guessing the B789 that does JFK - LAX is the same aircraft that then does QF15 LAX - BNE?

Most often, yes.

You can check which aircraft registration is on particular flights by typing the flight operator and number into Google/DuckDuckGo etc. and then selecting Flight Radar24, and looking at the latter. It has a chronological list from the bottom up of flights operated by an aircraft: free to view for last seven days. It is not reliable when there are very lengthy (overnight) delays and flights start to have a 'D' suffix but apart from that it's pretty good.

In further on 7 August, QF62, the redeye to BNE from NRT departed the latter 50 minutes late at 2045, so Thursday 8 anticipated arrival is 0650, 55 late.

QF11 had to divert to Detroit due to weather

To fill in the details, the Wednesday 7 August QF11 departed LAX at 0821, a minute late, stopping in DTW (local time) from 1900 to 2025 hours with JFK arrival about half an hour off as I write, at 2205 hours. QF12 should then depart JFK at 2330 hours, 320 minutes behind for LAX arrival on Thursday 8 at 0205, 305 late.

'The 16' is showing on the QF website as departing at 0115 on Thursday 8, 115 late but assuming it's the aircraft that came in from JFK (QF56 is operating, but showing as on time ex LAX), an 0330 hours or later pushback in LAX is likely for BNE arrival at around 1000 on Friday 9.

The Friday 9 August QF15 from BNE to LAX is also presumably to be delayed.

Passengers arriving late ex JFK will have to be put up in LAX hotels as they will miss QF12 and QF94.

On Thursday 8 August 2019, QF23, the 0950 hours daytime flight SYD - BKK departed at 1046 with arrival likely at 1730, 50 minutes behind.

Down in wintry MEL not sunny SYD, QF29, the 0940 hours MEL - HKG pushed back 68 minutes late, so expected arrival is 1817, 57 late.

The SYD to JNB long haul B744 on 'the 63' was only 22 late departing at 1117, but arrival should be 36 late at 1736 late this afternoon local time.

A388 VH-OQE arrived in MEL on 8 August 25 minutes late on QF94 at 0750, ex LAX: nothing overly unusual. However it then formed QF93 - not normal practice with the current timetable - and pushed back at 1154, 174 minutes late. LAX arrival is estimated as 0830 same day, 125 late, so unfortunately these passengers may miss the QF11 B789 JFK connection as it is due to depart LAX at 0820 and may not wait.

On Wednesday 7, the SCL across to SYD long haul B744 on QF28 departed 34 late at 1404 hours, so Thursday 8 arrival is an expected 1830, 40 down.

On Tuesday 7, 'the 2' was delayed overnight and did not depart LHR until 2301 hours on Wednesday 8, 1556 minutes late to arrive in SIN tonight (8 August) at 1918, 1553 late.

This overnight delayed QF2 should then depart SIN at 2040 hours, arriving SYD on Friday 9 at 0545, 1475 minutes late. A388 VH-OQF is the aircraft.

Today's QF7, the 1235 hours, has been delayed to 2100 hours this evening ex SYD with DFW arrival estimated - same day - at 2130 hours, 510 minutes late.

QF8 ex DFW on Thursday 8 has therefore been altered to push back in DFW at a suggested 2340 hours - 75 late - with SYD arrival on Saturday 10 August to be 80 late at 0745 hours.

A380 troubles again, just when we thought all was back to near punctual operation.

Maybe jb747 with his trip is not yet out of the woods?

The diverted via Detroit B789 VH-ZNB on QF11 (Wednesday 7 August) arrived JFK at 2155. The returning transcontinental USA QF12 has been further held up with pushback at JFK now estimated as 0040 on Thursday 8 for LAX arrival at 0315 hours, 375 late.

There is no update on the time this will depart LAX for BNE but a guess would be 0450, making BNE Friday arrival at around 1130 hours.

It may be possible if QF16 is badly delayed to use VH-ZND on QF15 on Friday 9 August for an on time departure from BNE to LAX, as ZND looks to be on QF56 that should shortly depart from LAX.

However QF589, the 0820 hours BNE - PER on Friday and QF654, the 1410 hours Friday 9 afternoon PER back to BNE at this stage are still showing as a B789.
