Qantas Delays/Cancellations

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Qantas Source reporting OQF has undertaken a test flight today so it appears a return to service is near. Currently 8 weeks out of service.

OQF been back in service since 09/06/15 so the A380 fleet is back on track. OQD is long term in Manila, over 6 weeks since 01/05/15, all others in service.

QF01 delayed SYD-DXB-LHR today

now scheduled 1745 departure from 1600

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Hopefully you can find something to do in the F lounge while you wait. ;)

I wish.

nope, Mrs is on way to LHR on a J award flight for 3 weeks (and coming back CX). She's never done long haul J.... (I get to stay at home with the children, dogs, cat etc)

Hence the "Stoopid" in the Stoopidsteve. ;)

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Delays out of Melbourne yesterday (18/6/2015) due to single runway operations.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Landed at SYD at 5pm and was surprised to see an A380 at Gate 24. It appears OQE was preparing for departure to MNL, now on the way as QF6013. OQD arrived from MNL as QF6014 earlier and is already on the way to LHR as QF1.

When the swap of 380s at Manila happens, it's arranged so that the aircraft up there departs before the replacement arrives. There can never be two on the ground in Manila at once, as there simply isn't a place to put them that doesn't infringe upon taxiways (other than the hangar, which only holds one).

Must be costly to the company doing what seems to me to be a lot of nonrevenue ferry Q60xx flights. On these flights is there a complement of cabin crew?

Whilst there is a cost attached to the ferry flight, that is simply part of the overall maintenance cost, and I'm sure a bean counter somewhere has accounted for those particular beans. If possible, the flight is brought back into the system via a HK service.

Ferry flights carry between 0 and 2 cabin crew, depending upon the flight duration.

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Today's (22JUN15) QF93 delayed by 24 hours. Large dent in fuselage at door M2L, presumably caused by hard impact from aerobridge either on arrival into MEL this morning, or at LAX before its departure. Engineering team conducted a thorough inspection to check that the outer skin of the fuselage hadn't been compromised. Eventually captain and engineers decided to cancel the flight and conduct a full repair, which apparently takes 6-8 hours.

Pax accommodated in overnight, or given taxi vouchers to get home if from Melbourne. Same crew to operate QF93D tomorrow (23JUN) morning.

And on that note, tonight's QF96 has been cancelled and presumably the aircraft will operate QF94 in lieu of the A380

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

whats the role of cabin crew on ferry flights? - any different than on a revenue flight but they get to sit in a proper seat?

Proper seats being in the coughpit?

Basically they do their normal job. Keep an eye on the cabin, and provide us with an occasional coffee/meal.

proper seats being the pax ones which face direction of travel.

BTW if no cabin crew do the pilots arm the nearest aircraft door or is it optional?

... and the delayed QF93 is now delayed 3 further hours because of the strong winds in MEL going to single runway. This made the 380 to divert to SYD for extra fuel.

What's impressive that the crew (captain, first officer, second officer) is going around talking to pax in the F lounge.

Agreed - the captain CSM et al also went around the business lounge updating passengers. They couldn't have been more considerate of all our various woes and worries, and when it eventually left, the flight itself was brilliant - and the entire crew should be commended

some of the not so good bits about the whole experience - losing my beautiful 13A and 13B on qf93 and ending up in 15a and 15b in qf7093 (replacement flight) with a puddle under my feet ( we did change and go down to some empty seats at rear of business cabin). And some of it we managed some good experiences - like lunch in the qantas first lounge on day 1 (the 22nd) after being deplaned. And we did get a room at the airport park royal unlike some pax who ended up being bussed to a motel in Preston, then arrived downstairs for bus back to the airport at 05:30 only to be told it was now 06:30

the very worst part of the whole experience for us was the ghastly shamozle in Melbourne airport - queues of oax plus luggage for hotel vouchers or taxi coupons - no- one knew which queue was which and the organisation was abysmal. We as business oax mixed in to the huge numbers of people - it should have been done in the lounge rather than making it all worse by adding to the numbers queuing. I had an accident on the way to the airport so had arm in a sling and was feeling very sorry for myself - sitting on the floor having a little cry in the middle of 500 people at least got us out of the queue and into the park royal

Our ongoing flight to Seattle was booked with virgin America and therefore not on the same pnr - and it cost us $$450usd to change days. Travel insurance (insure and go) said they do not cover missed connections so we will have to wear that one. Rang qantas who said they could change us to air Alaska so any further changes would be covered- but it would cost us $400 pp plus the new fare. I'll look further into our out of pockets when we get home but I don't want to do that while on holiday

just received an email from qantas saying that they are so sorry and have given me 15,000 points which is appreciated, but we have lost one of our two days in Seattle which is sad

apologies for the typos etc, iPad not working well and I'm only using one finger today

but we are safely in Seattle and I presume all our fellow passengers are now safely at their destinations, and it was eventually a great flight with great crew

Re: General Qantas Delays/Cancellations/etc. Discussion

Hi guys,

Does anyone know the reason behind QF7's delayed departure? Its been pushed back to a 10pm departure.

OQD has been out of service at LAX since Wednesday, so it may be something to do with that.
