Qantas Delays/Cancellations

QF10 terminates in PER and turns around as QF9 on Tues-Thurs
This pattern continues through to the commencement of the winter timetables at the end of March 2023. There are some variations during February 2023, including QF332 replacing two QF10 flights, but still operated by a B789 aircraft.

On another AFF forum I noted complaints about the use of A332s & B737s with inferior or no business class for the QF9 MEL-PER / QF10 PER-MEL sectors. A332s were used intermittently over the period 25 Nov to 12 Dec on the Friday through Sunday services.
I suspect the B737s complained about, were operating normal MEL-PER / PER-MEL domestic flights on the Tuesday through Thursday Perth turnaround days.

Tuesday 20 December 2022 had QF36, the 1940 hours redeye SIN-MEL airborne at 2129, so Wednesday 21 expected arrival for A332 VH-EBE becomes 0738 hours, 88 late.

Wednesday : two B789 delays so far today :

After the aircraft positioned from Melbourne, QF63 SYD-JNB (B789 VH-ZNF) pushed back in Sydney 92 minutes late at 11:07 AEDT, with arrival in Jo'burg expected to be 83 minutes late. The return QF64 is currently showing a 45 minute delay departing, with arrival in Sydney now 14:10 AEDT Thursday (same delay).

QF27 SYD-SCL is currently shown as departing Sydney at 14:55 AEDT, 2 hrs 20 minutes late, with arrival in Santiago showing the same delay. As yet there is no information on any delay to the return QF28.

Some passengers may have been offered a connection to/from today's QF21 MEL-DFW or QF22 DFW-MEL, if those flights had vacancies.

Hard to imagine in the few days before Christmas that outbound flights would have many seats vacant. Given there's less seating capacity offered by all carriers in total to the USA than was the case three years ago, easy to comprehend how almost every flight (and not just this week) would be close to full.

I'd love to hear from affected passengers how they got to their destination, and the length of the delay, as well as any freebie hotels/meals provided due to such cancellations of in this instance QF7/QF8.

Continuing with Wednesday 21, QF11 (operated by AA388 VH-OQJ that handed been used for almost two full days) took off at 1318 from SYD so same day LAX arrival should be 73 minutes late at 0718 hours.

A332 VH-EBR is the relatively unusual aircraft for QF19 (1225 hours SYD-MNL) that was in the sky at 1324 for projected at gate arrival at 1806, 36 minutes tardy.

A333 VH-QPH on QF26 from HND down to SYD arrived at 1147 hours, 117 late, this morning and formed QF81 (1230 hours lunchtime SYD-SIN) that took off at 1409 for estimated at gate arrival of 1901 hours, 80 late.

Perenially late QF104 (1110 hours Tuesday 20 HNL down to SYD) has A333 VH-QPE for the second consecutive day with arrival likely at around the 2043 hours mark mid evening, 123 minutes late.

Looks like the QF75 to YVR has been cancelled with weather in YVR
That will lead to lots of very unhappy faces as this throws a lot more travel plans into chaos.

I would also be interested to hear from some on this flight what happens now.

By the sounds of it, it was cancelled at the 11th hour at the point of boarding

Other flights are landing now so perhaps QF decided they couldn’t take the risk of sending another aircraft

QF76 has been taxiing at YVR for the last 2 hours+ and counting. No guarantees it will leave so it makes sense to hold back QF75.

QF76 has departed YVR after a 3 hour runway delay. Gate to gate will be about 19 hours.

B789 VH-ZNC was airborne at 0319 hours so Thursday 22 December arrival in SYD should be at about 1304 hours this afternoon, 389 minutes late.

VH-ZNF on QF64, the Wednesday 21 JNB-SYD took off at 1809 hours so expected arrival today is 1434 hours, 69 minutes tardy.

VH-ZND on QF28 from SCL across to SYD is arriving tonight at approximately 1941 hours, 111 minutes late.

Flyer, is this principally due to a shortage of available crews, especially cabin crew?

Or some other reason? Effectively, it reduces domestic seats available MEL-PER-MEL as QF9/QF10 would presumably never be full of international patrons. It also means baggage handlers must transfer the ULDs (or perhaps load them in PER for northbound or unloded southbound if luggage requires transfer to or from a smaller domestic aircraft).
